From special education classes to becoming a world class investor - Darren Jacklin | EP33

From growing up with learning and reading disabilities, to barely passing public high school, to multiple suicide attempts, to living on the streets and on welfare—Darren Jacklin was fated for failure. Throughout his upbringing, he was repeatedly told that his abilities would forever keep him from amounting to anything. For years he accepted this destiny and even succumbed to its weight several times until someone believed in him.

This pivotal moment completely reshaped his life, giving him the power to believe in himself for the first time. Since then, Darren has trained over one million people in forty-eight countries, four continents, and 157 Fortune 500 Companies. He has rung the Closing Bell at NASDAQ twice, served on high-profile public and private Boards of Directors, and currently leads a Global Mission towards Global Philanthropy Projects through his Private Family Foundation.

As a successful corporate trainer, world-class public speaker, and investor; Darren shares the transformative experiences that have allowed him to find his purpose.

This insightful memoir takes you on a journey of successes and failures from the perspective of someone who knows what it’s like to give up on life and achieve great success. Why some are compelled to push beyond the edge - Jenny Valentish | EP31

Why some are compelled to push beyond the edge - Jenny Valentish | EP31

The absolute extremes; why some are compelled to push beyond the edge and what can hyper-driven business people learn from these folks?

There’s the neuroscientist continuously violating his brain to override his disgust response.

The hardcore wrestler turning natural-born agitation into curated ultraviolence.

The architect hanging from hooks in her flesh at weekends, to better get out of her head.

The ultrarunner who draws parallels between his current pursuit and his former life smoking crack.

The BDSM don helping people flirt with death in order to feel more alive.

The ballet dancer who could not separate her identity from her practice until at death’s door.

And the porn star-turned-MMA fighter for whom sex and violence are two sides of the same coin.

Where this is going is there is a part of human nature compelled to test our own limits. But what happens when this part comes to define us?

Which is a reason I wanted to deep-dive with Jenny Valentish, who has a new book out, ‘Everything Harder Than Everyone Else’.

It’s about people willing to do the things that most others couldn’t, wouldn’t or shouldn’t. By delving into their extreme behaviour, there’s a lot that us mere mortals can learn about the human condition.

Jenny is also a journalist who freelances for The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Guardian, The Saturday Paper and Rolling Stone.

Here’s what to expect in this episode:

    ✅ 20:53 - The upside to trauma
✅ 31:38 - How to apply compartmentalisation to switch between the roles we play
✅ 35:02 - How to avoid addiction taking over from discipline in your home life

Expand What’s Possible

The Ultrahabits Podcast is a must-listen for anyone who wants to push the boundaries of what they think is possible in their lives. The guests are all incredible, and RJ is as good an interviewer as I've heard. He truly listens to his guests and asks impactful, insightful, and highly introspective questions. He goes deeper than most, and that is where the gold is. Highly recommend.

Authentic, inspiring and life-changing

RJ’s message is simple - we can all be better by learning from the lessons of others. We are what we repeatedly do, as Aristotle said, and the ultra-habits of others can bring us closer to excellence as well.

Very authentic and inspiring.

shaysq ,

Motivational and authentic

RJ has a calming spirit that unleashes the core of what drives you. Our time together felt like old friends reminiscing on the glory days and the moments of passion that make life so memorable. As an endurance athlete himself, RJ has a unique ability to relate to his guests and get them to share personal experiences.
