As the clock struck midnight and ushered in 2026, people around the globe made resolutions to spend less time on their phones and more time fostering connections offline, from joining new clubs to taking up hobbies that mean less screen time and more face time. (People) An individual born in 2025 is projected to spend 21 years of their life, equivalent to over 181,000 hours, looking at a screen, according to a new Eyesafe report. That figure comprises a quarter of a person's life and more than 40% of their waking hours, the report noted. (Quartz) The idea of "going analog" and intentionally reducing one's reliance on digital devices forces people to slow down, learn a new trade, pick up a new skill or rediscover their creativity. (People) Pitched as “analog lifestyles,” it's different than a short-term digital detox. Instead, it’s an effort to slow down and find tangible ways to complete daily tasks and find entertainment, especially as generative AI platforms increasingly do the thinking and doing for us. (CNN) There isn't a one-size-fits-all approach to reducing or creating a boundary with your digital life. But as it happens, sometimes suggestions on how to go about it have to be spread online. Influencers are posting about their “analog bag,” a canvas bag filled with craft supplies or purchasing a refurbished iPod to participate in this trend. (Los Angeles Times) The trend forms part of a wider backlash against a culture of doomscrolling and the pressure to always be online.  (The Guardian) Bob Hutchins, CEO at Human Voice Media, a technology services consultancy in Nashville, Tenn. told Quartz, the most significant thing with digital disruption is the reclaiming of human attention. “People are turning off notifications not to hide, but to concentrate,” he added. “People are deciding to be unresponsive digitally, in order to be fully present physically.” (Quartz)

The US navy has amassed a huge fleet off the Venezuelan coast since September, carried out airstrikes against alleged drug trafficking boats in the Caribbean and the Pacific and seized Venezuelan oil tankers.  The Guardian The ousted Venezuelan leader and the former first lady are now in a New York jail, facing drug and weapons charges to which they pleaded not guilty during a first court appearance. President Donald Trump has said the US now “runs” the oil-rich South American country and Maduro’s vice president was sworn in as acting president. CNN Venezuela is home to the largest proven oil reserve on Earth, with an estimated 300 billion barrels lying beneath the surface.  Venezuela's oil production has been hit in recent decades by disinvestment and mismanagement - as well as US sanctions. At roughly one million barrels per day, the country accounts for less than 1% of global supply. BBC A lot of questions remain to be answered following the unprecedented ouster of the Venezuelan leader. For Venezuelans, both inside the country and abroad, it's been a mix of emotions and a sense of uncertainty over what comes next. CNN Many countries expressed outrage over the capture of Maduro, while even some U.S. allies issued statements calling for the rule of law to be respected.  Time Despite Trump's statements that the US will decide the fate of the country, the Venezuelan military appears to be in control of the country and its military assets. What is clear is that the US is determined to play a large role in Venezuela, through the use of military force or otherwise.  The Guardian

這是一個 bonus update 額外更新 🌟 完整解說在 N06 Hong Kong Fire 🔥 香港大火  https://vocus.cc/article/6932e3f2fd8978000119c5db  How did Hong Kong's massive housing estate fire turn so deadly? A deadly inferno tore through a massive housing complex in Hong Kong last week, killing at least 128 people with many more still missing, in the city’s worst disaster in decades. (CNN) The death toll has been rising each day, as officials work to recover and identify bodies. (BBC) The fire started at Wang Fuk Court, a housing estate in Hong Kong's Tai Po district. The complex, built in 1983, consists of eight high-rise buildings with a total of 1,984 flats.  Property records show that Wang Fuk Court has been undergoing major renovation work, costing about $42.43m. (Al Jazeera) Preliminary investigations showed the fire started last Wednesday afternoon on a lower-level scaffolding net of one of the buildings, and then spread rapidly inside as the foam panels caught fire and blew out windows, according to Chris Tang, Hong Kong's secretary for security. Winds helped the flames jump from building to building and soon seven of the eight were engulfed. It took until Friday morning, some 40 hours later, for more than 2,000 firefighters to finally extinguish all the flames. (AP) The exact cause of the fire is not yet known, but a criminal investigation has been launched. (CNN)   The eight buildings of the Wang Fuk Court complex in the suburb of Tai Po had all been clad in bamboo scaffolding draped with nylon netting for renovations, with windows covered by polystyrene panels, and authorities are now investigating whether fire codes were violated. (AP) Three days of national mourning started on Saturday, and thousands have gathered at the scene to mourn the victims. There have been queues stretching as long as 2km, as people wait to lay flowers and handwritten notes. (BBC) The apartment blocks were home to more than 4,000 people, according to census data, and those that escaped must now try to get their lives back on track.
