126 - The Meeting Reset: Ask This Before You Shorten, Fix, or Join Another Meeting

Most meeting advice starts too late. In this episode, Marcey Rader makes the case that before you shorten a meeting, improve the agenda, or redesign the format, you need to ask a more important question: should the meeting happen at all?   Why it matters: Poor meeting culture steals time from high-priority work. Atlassian reports that in organizations with poor meeting cultures, people spend 50% more time in unnecessary meetings than making progress on high-priority work. Interrupted work is not focused work. Microsoft says employees on Microsoft 365 are interrupted on average every 2 minutes by a meeting, email, or notification. Video fatigue is real. Stanford researchers found that common video-call design patterns, including constant close-up eye contact and self-view, can exhaust the mind and body.   What you’ll learn: Why the first question is not “How do we run this meeting better?” How to tell when a meeting is really a status update, recap, or anxiety management system When Loom or async video is a better choice than live time How to shorten meetings by narrowing the attendee list to players, not spectators Why meeting design should work for real brains, not idealized employees When walking meetings are a smarter format Why meeting overload is often a prioritization failure, not a meeting failure   Mentioned in this episode: Loom - www.loom.com Episode 123: Don't Improve the Symptom Before You Address the Source - https://www.helloraderco.com/addressing-the-source/ Episode 122: Loom Videos: The 5-Mnute Habit That Replaces a 30-Minute Meeting https://www.helloraderco.com/loom-videos-replace-meetings/ Episode 107 - Designing Meetings for Neurodivergent Brains Where Everyone Wins https://www.helloraderco.com/meetings-for-neurodivergent/ Episode 76 - From Zoom Zombies to Asyn Advocates: How to Burn Down Your Meeting Culture and Rebuild it For Increased Productivity and Health https://www.helloraderco.com/meeting-culture/ Revolutionize Your One-to-Ones: The Surprising Benefits of Walking Meetings - https://www.helloraderco.com/benefits-of-walking-meetings/   Sustainable performance beats burnout every time. 125 - You Don’t Struggle With Reading. You've Been Told How To Read Wrong

Reading doesn’t fail people with ADHD. Bad design does. In this episode of the Health-Powered Productivity™ Podcast, Marcey Rader dismantles the idea that reading requires stillness, discipline, or long, uninterrupted blocks of time. Instead, she shows how to design a reading habit that works with an ADHD brain, not against it. Why it Matters Shame kills consistency. Most reading advice assumes a neurotypical brain. Reading is an input system. Systems can be redesigned. What You’ll Learn Why shrinking the entry point makes reading sustainable Pages vs. minutes and which one actually builds focus and why to try both ways How movement improves attention while reading Why you don’t need to finish books for them to be valuable A simple 10-minute ADHD-friendly reading ritual Mentioned Work Well. 124 - Make Prioritization Visible: A Leadership Diagnostic

In this episode host Marcey Rader turns a hard truth into a leadership tool: when priorities aren’t visible, teams optimize everything and impact thins. Using the Altitude method (see Episode 118) and your Top Three, Marcey shows how to reduce decision load, cut operational drag, and protect capacity with an 85% planning bar and clear guardrails.   Why it matters Invisible priorities create rework, slow decisions, and burnout. Visible Top Three at every altitude lowers decision load and stress. An 85% capacity bar funds resilience for real life and real opportunities.   What you’ll learn How to publish Top Three at Strategic/Operational/Ground altitudes How to spot “optimization theater” and name the real costs Four guardrails: 85% capacity, kill-first meetings, one decision owner, public scoreboard Five tactical moves you can implement this week   References Episode 118: Stop Calendar Decorating: Prioritize First With the Altitude Method https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/118-stop-calendar-decorating-prioritize-first-with/id1569968080?i=1000746834918 Episode 112: Microwave or Crockpot: Pick the Right Method for Smarter Decisions - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/112-microwave-or-crockpot-pick-the-right-method-for/id1569968080?i=1000731771485 Episode 83: Mastering the Priorities Puzzle: Are you Walking the Talk? https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/83-mastering-the-priorities-puzzle-are-you-walking-the-talk/id1569968080?i=1000640301736   Sustainable performance beats burnout every time. 123: Don’t Improve the Symptom Before You Address the Source

In this timely episode, Marcey Rader uses a frustrating airport experience to unpack a bigger leadership problem: optimizing before prioritizing. Long lines are visible. The real issue usually is not. When leaders respond to symptoms instead of the source, they may look busy, but they won't improve outcomes.   Why it matters Visible action is not always meaningful action Leaders sometimes fix what’s seen instead of what’s broken Fewer meetings, faster decisions, and less rework start with better prioritization Teams lose capacity when leaders solve around the bottleneck instead of removing it What you’ll learn Why optics versus outcomes is a leadership issue How to spot optimization that is disguising a deeper problem Why status meetings and inbox overload often point to broken systems How to use the Relentless Prioritization Filter to protect capacity   Sustainable performance beats burnout every time. 122 - Loom Videos: The 5-Minute Habit That Replaces a 30-Minute Meeting

In this episode, Marcey Rader shows how a simple 5‑minute Loom video can replace a 30‑minute meeting without losing clarity or connection. She breaks down async video vs. live calls, the five-part structure for a great Loom, real client examples, and the guardrails to keep it accessible and searchable. Relentless prioritization beats endless optimization, and it's a practical way to reclaim hours.   Marcey Rader shows you four real ways RaderCo uses Loom to reduce meetings, cut back-and-forth, and keep human connection intact in the loom video link below.
