    In July 2007, four people disappeared from a rural property near Nannup, Western Australia, leaving behind a note claiming they had moved to Brazil, even though their passports were never used and their bank accounts remained untouched. The investigation would uncover a false identity, disturbing emails about suicide, access to powerful medications, and evidence that the group had been preparing to leave for months. But other details, including withdrawn cash, a new passport for five-year-old Leela, and belongings removed from the house, complicated what appeared to be the most likely explanation. Even a coronial inquest could not determine whether Chantelle McDougall, Leela McDougall, Tony Popic, and the man known as Simon Kadwill were dead or alive.
