E|202 A Conversation With Dave Cawley (Bonus)

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF Inside COLD Season 4: Blamed on Bundy — with Dave Cawley This week, Carolyn Ossorio sits down with investigative journalist Dave Cawley, creator and host of KSL’s acclaimed true-crime podcast COLD, to talk about its newly released fourth season: Blamed on Bundy: The Disappearance of Nancy Baird. Cawley has spent more than two decades covering courts, crime and missing-person cases, and COLD has become known for taking a single disappearance and investigating it with extraordinary depth. Season Four takes listeners back to 1975 and the disappearance of Nancy Baird from a gas station in Layton, Utah. Over the years, suspicion became entangled with the most infamous name in American serial murder: Ted Bundy. But Bundy denied responsibility, and Cawley’s new investigation asks whether attaching his name to Nancy’s disappearance actually brought investigators closer to the truth—or helped obscure it. Carolyn and Dave go behind the production of Blamed on Bundy to discuss what it takes to reopen a decades-old mystery, how investigators separate evidence from assumptions, and the peculiar gravitational pull Bundy continues to exert over unsolved cases half a century later. They also explore the responsibility true-crime storytellers have to the missing women at the center of these stories, particularly when the celebrity of a suspected killer threatens to become more famous than the victim whose fate remains unknown. COLD: Season 4 — Blamed on Bundy: The Disappearance of Nancy Baird is now in wide release from KSL Podcasts (https://kslpodcasts.com/?utm_source=chatgpt.com). Listen & Follow: Follow Criminal Mischief wherever you get your podcasts, leave a 5-star rating and review, and subscribe to the Evio Creative YouTube channel with notifications turned on. E|201 The Picture of Tomasz Kosowski (Bonus)

THE MURDER OF STEVEN COZZI The Tomasz Kosowski Case When attorney Steven Cozzi arrived for work at his Largo, Florida, law office in March 2023, there was little reason to believe he wouldn't be going home that evening. Then he vanished. His wallet, phone and keys were left behind. Investigators found blood inside the men's restroom at the law firm, but there was no sign of Cozzi himself. His body has never been recovered. What followed was an extraordinary murder investigation that eventually led authorities to Dr. Tomasz Kosowski, a plastic surgeon locked in a bitter legal dispute involving the medical practice where he had once worked. Cozzi represented defendants in that litigation, and prosecutors argued that Kosowski's anger over the case had become an obsession. The evidence investigators assembled told a chilling story: surveillance footage, forensic evidence, movements before and after Cozzi disappeared, and a trail prosecutors said connected Kosowski directly to the attorney's death—even without a body. But the case took another remarkable turn when Kosowski went to trial for first-degree murder and made a decision that dramatically raised the stakes: He represented himself. Facing the possibility of a death sentence, Kosowski questioned witnesses, challenged evidence and personally attempted to convince the court that prosecutors had accused the wrong man. It didn't work. In September 2026, Kosowski was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Steven Cozzi. This week on Criminal Mischief, Carolyn Ossorio takes us inside the disappearance of Steven Cozzi, the evidence that transformed a missing-person investigation into a murder case, the bitter legal conflict prosecutors said supplied a motive, and the extraordinary spectacle of an accused killer attempting to defend himself against a case that could ultimately cost him his life. And at the center of it all remains one haunting unanswered question: Where is Steven Cozzi? E|199 Taken - The Jaycee Dugard Story (Bonus)

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF Jaycee Dugard: 18 Years Stolen Special Guest: Paul Holes On June 10, 1991, eleven-year-old Jaycee Dugard was walking toward her school bus stop near her home in Meyers, California, when a car approached. A man emerged, incapacitated her with a stun gun and pulled her into the vehicle. Jaycee's stepfather witnessed the abduction and gave chase, but within moments she was gone. For the next 18 years, Jaycee remained a captive of Phillip and Nancy Garrido, hidden largely in a concealed compound of sheds, tents and makeshift structures behind their Antioch, California, home. She endured years of abuse and gave birth to two daughters while still being held captive. All the while, the outside world continued searching for the little girl who seemed to have vanished without a trace. Then, in 2009, the case broke open in an almost unbelievable way. Garrido's increasingly bizarre behavior brought him to the attention of authorities, eventually leading investigators to question the identities of the young women and girls accompanying him. On August 26, 2009, Jaycee finally revealed who she was. Eighteen years after her kidnapping, Jaycee Dugard had been found alive. This week on Criminal Mischief, Carolyn Ossorio revisits the extraordinary investigation into Jaycee's disappearance and recovery with special guest Paul Holes, the legendary cold-case investigator and forensic criminologist whose career has included work on some of California's most notorious crimes. Carolyn and Paul examine the case through an investigator's eyes: the initial abduction, the enormous search for Jaycee, the behavior of Phillip Garrido, and the disturbing opportunities authorities had to discover what was happening years before Jaycee was finally rescued. They explore how a registered sex offender under supervision managed to conceal a kidnapped child on his own property, what investigators can learn from the failures surrounding the case, and how seemingly insignificant observations can ultimately crack an investigation wide open. But this is also a story about something far more important than the people who abducted Jaycee. It is about survival. Jaycee Dugard emerged from eighteen years of captivity, reunited with her family and began the difficult process of reclaiming a life that had been interrupted when she was eleven years old. Her story remains one of the most extraordinary survival stories in modern American criminal history—and an enduring reminder that a missing-person case is never simply a file waiting to be closed.
