Trying Harder to Sleep Could Be Keeping You Awake with Rachel Goth | RT079

In this episode, Rachel Goth joins me to explore why trying harder to sleep can become part of the problem, the role of the body’s protection system, good sleep hygiene, common sleep misconceptions, and the wider impact of poor sleep on our well-being and relationships. // WHAT WE COVER IN THIS EPISODE // - Why trying harder to sleep can become part of the problem, and how over-focusing on sleep can create more stress around something our bodies are designed to do naturally. - How our internal “protection system” can remain on high alert long after the original reason for feeling unsafe has passed, and how this can interfere with our ability to sleep. - Some common misconceptions around good sleep, from striving for the “perfect” sleep routine to relying on sleep trackers, and we consider why what works for one person may not work for another. - The wider impact of poor sleep on our well-being, decision-making and relationships, including how exhaustion can affect our patience, empathy and connection with others. And so much more! // OUR REAL-ATIONSHIP TALK PODCAST GUEST // Rachel Goth is a Sleep Strategist who helps tired but wired professionals overcome persistent sleep problems when the usual advice hasn't worked. Having spent years believing she was a bad sleeper, Rachel understands first-hand how exhausting sleep difficulties can be. She works with people for whom sleep no longer comes naturally. They may struggle to fall asleep, wake repeatedly through the night, or lie awake for hours. People don't forget how to sleep. Instead, sleep can become overridden by vigilance as the nervous system continues to prioritise protection over rest. Using a combination of hypnotherapy and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Rachel works with both the mind and nervous system so healthy, restorative sleep can return naturally.
