Black Boomer Besties from Brooklyn

Angella Fraser & Leslie Osei-Tutu

This is what the world needs now: two free-thinking “seasoned” Black women speaking their truth and inspiring others to do the same. Shaped by 45 years of friendship that began at the prestigious Brooklyn Technical High School through the Ivy League, medical school, marriages, divorces, triumphs, parenting queer children, life-threatening illness and many many amazing adventures. Each week, besties Leslie Osei-Tutu and Angella Fraser will push against boundaries in love, culture, careers, faith, politics and out-dated assumptions about women of a certain age. Remember, you’re never too old to change your mind…or your hair! (but more on that later :-)All views are our own and do not reflect the views of our institution/company. Ep200 Two Tools to Move Through Grief: Exercise and Tattoos

In this week’s episode, Angie has found exercise and tattoo “therapy” to be useful coping tools to help move stress through her body instead of letting it camp out in her head. What does Les think?  Our conversation goes deeper (no surprise there) into how differently we approach permanence. One of us wants surety, plan B, and plan C. The other is more willing to live with change, even if the meaning evolves later. And because we’re us, we end up laughing about the creative chaos we unleash together, including a planned no-sleep decorating sprint that reminds us why long friendship still feels like power. If you like candid conversations about grief, wellness, tattoos, creativity, and aging with honesty, subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review. What would you choose to mark your next turning point? Ep198 In the Midst of Deep Grief

Death is the one certainty many of us spend a lifetime dodging and when it arrives, it can leave families overwhelmed, unprepared and emotionally broken. This week we’re recording in the middle of real grief after Angella loses her beloved eldest brother, Clifford. We use this touching  moment to guide a deeper conversation about what it can look like to face death with care instead of fear and avoidance. Along the way, we share resources from Death Doula Alua Arthur’s Going With Grace and reflect on practices that bring perspective and sensitivity to challenging times like these.
