I love podcast #137 The Rock! I’ve listened to it at least 5x cuz so many tips for screenwriters are explained very well. Good job To B, J&J - Fun Eps #117 Star Wars + #36 Speed! I couldn’t stop laughing along w/you. Your shows always put me in a good mood. Thx

Found this after watching a Save the Cat Writes a Horror webinar. You don’t need to have read STC to enjoy, but if you have it is a great refresher and dives into other concepts that are super helpful in pursuit of a great screenplay. The one I’m diving into now is superior position, and how it was applied to The Silence of the Lambs, their commentary is so insightful and funny. Great choice in movie breaks downs as well. It’s my new favorite podcast.

We all want to be thought of as smart right? We all want to have moments where we lean over to a friend in a movie theater during the 1997 monster movie “The Relic” and whisper, “Probably a good time to take off the high heels” and then smugly watch as the Penelope Anne Miller’s character prepares for fleet of foot by taking them off. But we’re not sure why we know this or how to explain it. Well these guys do just that. They give you the vocabulary and cute catch phrases to explain what a movie is successfully accomplishing and/or failing to accomplish. After one episode you’ll be tapping your nose with an all knowing glint in your eye and saying things like, “The Theme has been stated!” And “Not so secret, Secret Weapon introduced!” And your friends will tell you to be quiet and watch the movie. Or as you leave the theater and your friend asks “How’d you know she’d take her shoes off right then” you can say, “well, it seemed like a good time to have a physical act signify that the character was leaving behind the world she was comfortable with, the debate with herself was over and she had made her decision to undertake the monumental task of fighting a monster, aka , starting Act 2 of the film”

Not sure why it’s taken me so long to leave this review as I’ve listened to the entire catalog at least twice and sometimes more depending on the episode (Groundhog Day!). I love this podcast so much- really nerdy technical discussion of screenwriting from several distinct POVs has been my Masters degree in cheeseburger/arch plot screenwriting. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
