Baptism Doesn't Save You — So Why Do It?

Believer's baptism should be the one Christian practice we can all agree on — Jesus himself modeled it for us. And yet a sermon clip about baptism went viral for all the wrong reasons, with hundreds of comments and even accusations of heresy. In this episode, we tell that story and then walk through what the Bible actually says about baptism: complete immersion, always after salvation, with no saving power of its own. We take a quick historical survey through Qumran's purification washings, John the Baptist's call to repentance, and Jesus's own baptism, and land on Romans 6 and what it means to be immersed into Christ's death. The episode closes with a story Dr. Abidan Shah has never fully told on the show — his own father's baptism, turned away by an established church afraid of the consequences, and finally immersed in a river by a street evangelist who had never baptized anyone before in his life. 0:00 – The Sermon Clip That Went Viral 4:49 – What the Bible Actually Says About Baptism 6:53 – Does Infant Sprinkling Count? 10:01 – A Quick History: Qumran, John the Baptist, and Jesus 15:17 – Baptized Into His Death (Romans 6) 18:03 – Dr. Shah's Father: Turned Away From Baptism 22:21 – The Street Evangelist Who'd Never Baptized Anyone 24:48 – Why Baptism Isn't Optional Support the show Dr. Shah writes a personal letter every week — reflections on Scripture, faith, and living it out with clarity and purpose.  GET THE LETTER  If you enjoyed the show, please like and follow our Facebook and Instagram pages, and also subscribe to our YouTube channel. Have You Committed the Unpardonable Sin?

We have full confidence that the blood of Jesus has cleansed us of our sins. But there's still that one dark figure on the horizon that quietly terrifies a lot of Christians: the unpardonable sin. In this episode, we close out our ten-day series on sin by tackling it directly. We start by correcting a myth that's caused real pain for real families — no, suicide is not the unforgivable sin. From there we walk through what Jesus actually said in Matthew 12:31 and Mark 3:28, and why blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is a matter of willful, deliberate rejection — not a moment of doubt, a hard question, or an intrusive thought. We also address Hebrews 6:4, a passage many people misread as proof you can lose your salvation, and show why its real context points somewhere else entirely. The episode closes with a story Dr. Abidan Shah's father carried with him for years — a dying man, abandoned by his family in a shed, who heard the gospel clearly and still could not bring himself to receive it. It's a sobering picture of what real hardness of heart looks like. And if you've ever quietly worried that you've crossed that line yourself, the episode ends with sixty seconds of real, direct hope. 0:00 – Is Suicide the Unforgivable Sin? (No — Here's Why) 5:40 – What Jesus Actually Said (Matthew 12:31, Mark 3:28) — And Why It's Willful Rejection, Not Doubt 10:45 – Does Hebrews 6:4 Mean You Can Lose Your Salvation? 18:58 – Different Views on Who Can Commit This Sin (And the Full Story in Matthew 12) 21:48 – The Man in the Shed 27:25 – What the Unpardonable Sin Actually Is (And 60 Seconds of Hope) Support the show Dr. Shah writes a personal letter every week — reflections on Scripture, faith, and living it out with clarity and purpose.  GET THE LETTER  If you enjoyed the show, please like and follow our Facebook and Instagram pages, and also subscribe to our YouTube channel. Is All Sin the Same to God?

We know that every sin makes us equally guilty in the eyes of God. But come on — some sins have to be worse than others, right? In this episode, we tackle degrees of sin: legally, there's no difference between a white lie and murder. In consequences, the difference is enormous. We work through Adam and Eve's single act of disobedience and why one sin carried such catastrophic weight — using the picture of a single speck of gravy ruining an otherwise spotless white tablecloth, because it's a matter of God's holiness, not human proportionality. We look at Jesus's own words in John 19:11, where He tells Pilate that the one who betrayed Him "has the greater sin," and we dig into Dr. Abidan Shah's honest take on why he refuses to plant his flag as either Calvinist or Arminian. The episode closes with a hard, necessary question for believers: are you presuming on God's grace, treating a few sins as harmless because you're already saved? 0:00 – Are There Really Degrees of Sin? 4:17 – Adam and Eve's One Sin — And Why It Was So Costly 8:09 – The Holiness of God and the Tablecloth Illustration 12:54 – Judas Has "The Greater Sin" — And Why Dr. Shah Refuses to Pick a Theological Camp 17:25 – Imagining Judas's Day of Judgment (And a Stricter One for Teachers) 21:45 – Are You Presuming on God's Grace? You Can Become the Chain Breaker in Your Family

Yesterday we talked about sin. Today we're answering the harder follow-up questions you've been sending in — are all people really sinful, even the good ones? What happens to babies who die? And can generations of unbelief in a family ever really be broken? We work through Psalm 14 and Romans 3:23 on why every single person stands guilty before God — including history's most admired "good" unbelievers — and why no other world religion makes that same claim about itself. We dig into when sin nature actually takes hold (Psalm 51:5 says at conception, contrasted with John the Baptist being filled with the Holy Spirit from the womb), and Dr. Abidan Shah's honest, careful answer on what happens to children who die before they can choose Christ. The episode closes with a deeply personal story — the grandfather-in-law Dr. Shah never met, whose faithfulness set off a chain that led to his own family — and a challenge for anyone listening who could be the first in their own family line to break that chain. 0:00 – Are All People Really Sinful? Stop Calling Sin a "Struggle." Call It What It Is.

If you're a Christian, you probably do have a genuine desire to worship and obey God. But there's one three-letter word that keeps getting in the way. In this episode, we continue our Systematic Theology series by tackling sin head-on — starting with the ways we all try to rebrand it as a "struggle" or a "character opportunity" rather than call it what it is. We define sin biblically (any failure to conform to the moral law of God, in act, attitude, or nature), trace it back to Satan's rebellion before it ever reached the Garden, and work through Romans 5 on why Adam's sin became ours. We also walk through four ways Scripture pictures sin — a burden, a stain, slavery, and a debt — and land on one of the most important corrections in the whole episode: forgiveness doesn't mean God erased the debt. It means the debt was paid in full. We close with Joseph and his brothers, and why God often leads us through a real process toward repentance rather than an instant clean slate. 0:00 – Rebranding Sin as a "Struggle" (And Why We Do It) 6:15 – Adam and Eve: The Original Blame Game (And What Sin Actually Is) 11:35 – Original Sin: Why Adam's Sin Became Ours (Romans 5) 14:44 – Four Pictures of Sin: Burden, Stain, Slavery, Debt 20:18 – The Debt Was Paid, Not Erased 24:08 – Joseph and His Brothers: Led to Real Repentance Support the show Dr. Shah writes a personal letter every week — reflections on Scripture, faith, and living it out with clarity and purpose.  GET THE LETTER  If you enjoyed the show, please like and follow our Facebook and Instagram pages, and also subscribe to our YouTube channel. Jesus Didn't Just Save You. He Came to Fix Your Reflection.

We talked yesterday about being made in God's image. But sin distorted that image in every one of us — so what happens now? In this episode, we continue our Systematic Theology series by looking at how Jesus came not just to save us from punishment, but to recover the very image of God that sin warped. We work through Colossians 3, putting off the old man and putting on the new, and 2 Corinthians 3:18's picture of an unveiled mirror — daily being transformed into the likeness of Christ. Using a long, honest illustration about falling out of a workout routine and having to start again, we talk about why sanctification isn't always a straight climb upward, why real setbacks don't mean you were never truly saved, and why coming back to God isn't the exception in the Christian life — it's most of life. We close by looking ahead to what full restoration looks like when Christ returns, and the astonishing promise of 1 John 3:2: we shall be like Him. 0:00 – Jesus Came to Recover God's Image, Not Just Save You From Hell 4:22 – Put Off the Old Man, Put On the New (Colossians 3:8) 8:26 – The Mirror With No More Fog (2 Corinthians 3:18) 11:57 – The Gym Illustration: Why Falling Off Doesn't Mean You're Not Saved 18:16 – Big Sins Have Bigger Consequences (But You Can Still Come Back) 21:54 – Coming Back to God Is Most of Life — And Full Restoration Is Coming 25:35 – We Shall Be Like Him (1 John 3:2) Support the show Dr. Shah writes a personal letter every week — reflections on Scripture, faith, and living it out with clarity and purpose.  GET THE LETTER  If you enjoyed the show, please like and follow our Facebook and Instagram pages, and also subscribe to our YouTube channel. Get Ready to Take a Look in the Mirror

We've spent weeks getting to know God — His holiness, His unchanging nature, all of it. But how does that help us get along with people? In this episode, we launch a new stretch of our Systematic Theology series with the doctrine of humanity, starting with two foundational truths: we were created for God's glory, and we were created in His image. We use the picture of Michael Jordan at the peak of a dunk — hand raised, tongue out, at his absolute max — to talk about what it means to display God's glory, and the sobering account of Herod in Acts 12, struck down for accepting worship that belonged to God alone. Then we dig into what it actually means to be made in God's image: not some "royal we" from an ancient king, but the Triune God speaking within Himself. We close with the weight that truth carries for how we treat one another — why murder is ultimately an assault on God Himself, and why even cursing someone is something God takes personally. 0:00 – Why Would God Even Bring Us Into This World? 4:06 – The Michael Jordan Illustration of God's Glory 9:10 – The Herod Warning: Don't Take God's Glory for Yourself 13:26 – Made in God's Image, Not Just a Royal "We" 19:43 – Why Murder Is an Assault on God Himself 22:00 – Take a Look in the Mirror: Every Person Has God's Patent on Them Support the show Dr. Shah writes a personal letter every week — reflections on Scripture, faith, and living it out with clarity and purpose.  GET THE LETTER  If you enjoyed the show, please like and follow our Facebook and Instagram pages, and also subscribe to our YouTube channel. "I Know What the Bible Says — I'm Just Not Going to Obey It"

"I know exactly what the Bible says. I've heard preachers preach about it. I've heard it read to me my entire life. I'm just not gonna obey it." In this episode, we continue our Systematic Theology series by picking up where yesterday left off — the doctrine of Scripture — and turning to authority, clarity, necessity, and sufficiency. We talk about why treating the Bible like an owner's manual you consult occasionally, rather than the very breath you live on, quietly strips it of its authority in your life. Using the picture of a doctor who names the cure but won't force you to take it, we explore why disobeying Scripture always carries natural consequences rather than arbitrary punishment. We also dig into how to spot a false teacher, why the Bible's clarity means the parts that trouble us most are usually the ones we understand perfectly well, and practical steps for anyone who wants to move from owning a Bible to actually studying it. The episode closes with a real conversation about a young man who invented a "back door" path to God outside Scripture — and why there isn't one. 0:00 – "I Know What the Bible Says — I'm Just Not Going to Obey It" 4:02 – These Are the Words of God, Not Suggestions 8:36 – Has God Indeed Said?
