Ep 187: The Four Tools That Change Everything

After 187 episodes, Marie has noticed something. Every methodology, every thought leader, every spiritual practice, every goal-setting framework is essentially teaching the same three or four things. The problem? They tell you what to work on but rarely tell you how to actually do it. This episode is the how. Consider this your DIY framework — four tools, four episodes to pair them with, and everything you need to make any idea real, change any habit, or achieve any goal. It's also the exact foundation the Moxie Mastermind is built on. What you'll learn in this episode: Why every methodology from business to spirituality to goal-setting is essentially teaching the same three or four things — and why most of them leave out the actual toolsThe closed-loop system your brain runs on: what you focus on, you see; what you see, you create; what you create becomes evidence of what you were focusing on in the first place — and how to break that loop intentionallyHow the reticular activating system works as your brain's bouncer — blocking out what you don't believe and letting in what you do — and why that makes your focus the most powerful thing you can manageWhy your nervous system is going to get a little punky when you set a big, beautiful goal — and how to work with it instead of letting it run the showWhy aligned action without managed thinking and emotions will only get you so far — and what changes when all three are working togetherThe fourth tool that most people don't talk about: working with the subconscious mind through self-hypnosis and visualization — priming that 95% that's running under the surface every single morningThe four tools in one clean framework: your focus, your emotions, your action, and your subconscious mind — and exactly which podcast episodes to go to for each oneThe four episodes Marie references: 🎙 Regenerative Thinking — the thought model for managing your focus and perspective 🎙 Feelings Are Your Superpower — the tool for processing emotions instead of stuffing them down or acting them out 🎙 The Blueprint — how to turn your idea into a time-bound, measurable, audacious goal and work it over six months 🎙 Future Trippin' / Self-Hypnosis — how to prime your subconscious mind every morning with a visualization of what you're creating The Moxie Mastermind September cohort has one to two spots left — and closes to new members in early October. Ep 186: Follow the Niggle

Marie just said yes to writing her book. In six months. Alongside her daughter, who is also writing a book. And she's here to tell you exactly how that happened — and why the sequence of events that followed her yes was nothing short of magic. But first, she needs to talk about your elephant. This episode weaves together the science of the subconscious mind, the power of visceral visualization, and one of the most important moments in Marie's own story — because understanding how your brain works is only half of it. The other half is knowing what to do when the big, scary opportunity actually shows up in front of you. What you'll learn in this episode: The elephant and the rider — why 95% of your thinking is happening under the surface, and why that 95% is running on negativity bias, threat detection, pain avoidance, and old shame programming that will absolutely override your best conscious intentions if you don't train itWhy your lizard brain is always going to do three things — take the easy road, avoid pain, pursue pleasure — and what that means for anyone trying to make something real in the worldTwo ways to train your subconscious mind to line up with the future you're creating instead of pulling against itWhat visceral visualization actually is, how to do it, and why spending time every day in a full sensory dress rehearsal of your future self's life is one of the most neuroplastically powerful things you can doWhy your brain won't even recognize the opportunities that match your desired future if you haven't trained it to look for them — and what it's scanning for insteadMarie's morning visualization in full — the salty sea air, the coffee, the meditation, the kids, the husband, the assistant calling, the bestseller notification — and what happened when a book publisher in Denver started pursuing a deal with her six months laterWhat happened the morning after she signed the contract: 45 minutes of voice memos downloading the entire book, and thing after thing after thing lining up in a way she's experienced too many times to call coincidenceWhy ignoring the niggling feeling — that quiet, persistent pull toward the thing you actually want — makes life muddy and weird, and why listening to it feels like magicThe three-step process: follow the language your body speaks, visualize the future you're creating every single day, and when the big scary opportunity shows up — say yesWhy every single person who has ever made their dream real had to take a scary leap. Every single one.Mentioned in this episode: The Moxie Mastermind — where subconscious mind training, visualization, and making ideas real is built into the work every weekMelissa Tears — originator of the neuroplastic trigger-release technique Marie referencesFinding Moxie — Marie's book, now officially in progressHow to connect with Marie: On the Web | The Local BloomInstagram: @the.bloom.coachAll Things Marie on LinkTreeJOIN THE BLOOM ROOM! Ep 185: September Is the New 'New Year'

It's almost September — where are the fireworks? For most of us, fall is a much bigger New Year than January ever will be. In this episode, Marie makes the case for why September actually feels like the biggest reset button in the year, and what it takes to make sure that reset doesn't just get swallowed by everyone else's requests. In This Episode Why the hell do we celebrate in January? For a lot of women — especially moms — September is when everything actually happens: the sports league sign-ups, the PTA meetings, the new backpacks and schedules, the Goliath mountain of logistics. By the time it's "handled," it's fall, not winter, that feels like the fresh start. The Fresh Start Effect — Just like New Year's Day or a Monday, the shift into autumn signals novelty and motivates us to pursue new goals. Back-to-School Conditioning — Years of academic calendars have programmed our minds to associate September with new supplies, fresh classes, and personal organization. Grounded Introspection — Unlike the fast-paced energy of spring, fall provides a balanced, reflective drive that favors inner growth and deliberate planning. The Moxie Take: time whispering — Once you finally get your time back, if you haven't practiced putting what matters most first, that time fills right back up with everyone else's requests. With the right boundaries, your New Year can feel like freedom — like a party.Managing the Autumn Energy Shift- Shorter days — Less sunlight can lower your serotonin and raise melatonin, making you feel tired earlier.Combatting the fatigue — Get outside during daylight hours, keep a steady sleep schedule, and stay physically active to support your circadian rhythm. September is our new year. Make sure you have the skills to put the things that are most important to you first. This year can be different. Ep 184: Problems Are the Point

Marie is recording this one from a pink house in Sequim on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, with ocean out every window and a ten-year-old Jack Sparrow jumping off rocks on their own private beach. She's in full August mode — off, on the road, and completely in it with her kids. But she's got a story from the road that's too good not to share. Because what started as a 10-hour drive that turned into a 16-hour day — with four hours of dead-stopped traffic, an electric car and two kids in the backseat — which turned into the best day of the whole trip. And the reason why is exactly what she teaches inside the Moxie. Problems aren't a sign that something's gone wrong. They're the whole point. What you'll learn in this episode: Why the sweet spot of growth — in business, in health, in relationships, in any idea you're making real — lives inside the problems, not around themHow design thinking's iterative cycle maps perfectly onto real life: test, see what breaks, redesign, try again — and why that's exactly what you wantThe story of the Hell's Kitchen cast party, four hours of dead-stopped traffic, a mountain pass through golden oak-covered hills, and why Marie's kids called it the best day of the whole tripHow you talk to yourself about a problem the moment it hits — and why that internal conversation determines everything about the experience you're about to haveWhy pushing into the yellow zone of slight discomfort over and over is what grows your capacity — and why staying in the green zone of comfort actually shrinks itWhy every obstacle is just a strategy waiting to happen — and how collaborative problem solving creates bonding, adventure, and insights you never would have found without the problemWhat it means to say yes to wild, ridiculous ideas on purpose — so that you get to have beautiful, creative problems arise that your brain gets to solveThe reflection question for this week: when you hear the word "problem," do you think this is bad — or do you think this is exactly what I want?Mentioned in this episode: The Obstacle Is the Way by Ryan HolidayHell's Kitchen — the Alicia Keys musical (go see it!)The Moxie Mastermind — where iteration, problem solving, and making ideas real is the whole gameThe Misogi goal — your six-month goal for adventure and personal aliveness alongside your contribution goalA couple of spots still open in the September Moxie Mastermind cohort. Ep 183: Compounding Results

Marie is officially in August — aka her favorite month, aka the month she designed her entire life around so she could be fully present with her kids. She's headed to the Alicia Keys Hell's Kitchen cast party, a road trip up to Washington, Seattle, the Quillute territory, Portland, Bend, and Disneyland where her son will be dressed head-to-toe as Jack Sparrow (with a beard made from his own hairbrush — yes, really). But before she disappears into summer magic, she's leaving you with one of the most important concepts she teaches inside the Moxie: the law of compounding results. Because here's what nobody tells you when you're in the middle of doing the work and not yet seeing the payoff: that's not failure. That's exactly how it's supposed to go. What you'll learn in this episode: Why the ideas that actually change your life sound completely ridiculous at first — and why that's a feature, not a bugWhat the law of compounding results is and why the world does not work in straight lines, no matter how much our brains want it toWhy expecting effort to produce a predictable, linear result is the exact thing that will make you quit before the waterfall comesReal examples of compounding results in action: raising kids, dating, marketing a business, learning to surf, learning a language, writing a book — and why every single one requires sustained effort before you see the payoffWhy you are responsible for your results but never entitled to them — and what that distinction actually means for how you show upHow to stay in momentum during the Sahara Desert stretch — that long, dry season where you're working hard and nothing seems to be movingWhy collecting failures is just as valuable as collecting wins, and how to flip the script so every failure becomes evidence that you're getting closerHow a weekly accountability group statistically takes you from 50% to 95% likely to achieve your goal — straight from the researchWhat the book Grit by Angela Duckworth tells us about sustained effort vs. inherent talent — and why grit wins every timeThe reflection question to sit with: where are you expecting linear results and creating defeat where there actually is none? Also in this episode: A sneak peek at Pocket Moxie — the AI companion Marie is building to give Moxie ladies 24/7 access to her full library of resourcesThe Moxie Bots — Marie's AI backend team (yes, she named them)A new course called Finding Moxie — a preview of her upcoming bookThe Moxie Mastermind September cohort — seven months this time, with one-on-ones, a retreat, and a couple spots leftThe Moxie Mastermind September cohort is almost full. Ep 182: Chasing Validation

Marie opens this episode fresh off the final call of the first-ever Moxie Mastermind cohort — and she is FEELING it. The women were in tears. Every single one named the Moxie group as one of the greatest sources of positive feeling in their last six months. And almost all of them are coming back for round two in September. From that high, she dives into something she's been coaching heavily lately — a shift that her clients keep describing as total freedom: learning to need nothing in the way of external validation, while giving everything in the way of it. This one's a game changer. What you'll learn in this episode: Why needing external validation is one of the biggest things standing between you and making your idea real — and why the people who love you most still can't give you what you needThe story of Marie leaving her career to start over, feeling sheepish sharing her vision, and why she had to believe in the "after" before anyone else could see itWhy chasing external validation is chasing the dragon — it will never be enough, it will rob you of your authenticity, and it will pull you off your own internal compassThe three things you actually have control over (hint: it's not what other people think of you) and why handing that power to someone else is the opposite of MoxieWhat a vulnerability hangover is, how to be with the feeling instead of running from it, and why embracing your "too-muchness" makes it lose its powerReal client stories: the woman who stopped asking her partner if he was mad at her, the one who stopped checking in with her boss at the end of every day, the one who stopped fawning over her chaotic family — and what changed for all of themWhy Marie doesn't believe in feeling neutral about positive feedback — receive it, soak it up, let it feel great — and what to do with negative feedback insteadThe two-part process: never need validation because you give it to yourself first — and always give it freely in the form of gratitude, appreciation, and presenceWhy that combination — needing nothing, giving everything — creates an ecosystem where nobody else controls how you feel, and your momentum becomes inevitableAlso in this episode: A sneak peek at the Moxie Mastermind September cohort (almost full — apply at dothebloom.com)The Pocket Moxie — an AI tool Marie is building to give her clients access to her full body of work anytime, right in their pocketAnd a little love letter to taking August completely off — by design, on purpose, unapologetically. The Moxie Mastermind September cohort is almost full. Ep 181: Failure Tolerance

We open this episode on a yacht in San Diego Bay — silky robes, pirate ships, debating whether to jump into very questionable Coronado waters — deep in conversation with a brilliant restaurateur from a small town in Italy. He asked my advice and posed a question: I know I need to collect failures. But I get too much positive feedback. Where am I going wrong? My answer: I don't buy it. From there, this episode becomes a masterclass in what it actually means to put yourself out there — and why if you're not failing, you might not be going far enough. What you'll learn in this episode: Why "I don't see evidence of failure" usually means one of two things — and neither of them is that everything's going greatHow praising kids (and ourselves) for being good at something actually causes us to stop taking risks — straight from the research in MindsetThe real reason we don't recognize our own failures — and why your brain might be actively hiding them from youMy own recent failures: from missing my husband's best friend energy, to a chaotic first three weeks of summer, to courses delayed, a book half-written, health issues from 20 years of athletic yoga, and a friendship changed by necessary boundariesWhy every item on that failure list is there because I’m putting my full heart into my life — and what that means for yoursWhy if you're not failing, you may be depriving the world of something only you can give itThe design thinking concept of failing forward — and how mastering the Gain instead of minding the Gap makes it easier and more funWhy measuring progress against your ideal is a logical fallacy (your vision isn't real yet — it's a steering mechanism, not a measuring stick)Why measuring from where you started kicks you into higher brain function, makes you more creative, and actually makes you statistically more likely to hit your goalThe two questions I leave you with to uncover how YOU can fail bigger, better, faster, MORE. Mentioned in this episode: Mindset by Carol DweckThe Gap and the Gain by Dan SullivanCompassionate Observer (Bloom Your Mind Podcast) Look How Far you’ve come (Bloom Your Mind Podcast) The Moxie Mastermind Monthly Retros — where failures get collected, celebrated, and learned fromThe Moxie Mastermind is enrolling for the September cohort now.  Find the application at dothebloom.com. Ep 180: The Blueprint

What are you actually building? Not reacting to — building. Marie opens this episode with a summer reflection on the people you spend the most time with, and what it means to be truly intentional about who and what you let into your mind, your energy, and your week. From there, she gets into the concept she lives by and teaches inside the Moxie Mastermind: the Blueprint. Two focused priorities — one for contribution, one for life force — that hand you back the reins of your own life and point you toward the things that actually light you up. If you've ever had that quiet, uncomfortable thought of is this all there is? — this episode is for you. What you'll learn in this episode: Why energy acclimation is real, and how to be intentional about the rooms, relationships, and conversations you put yourself in — instead of just saying yes to whatever approaches youThe two-priority Blueprint Marie uses inside the Moxie Mastermind every six months — one goal for your contribution to the world, one for pure joy, adventure, and self-expressionWhat a Misogi is (thank you, Jessie Itzler) and why setting a goal purely for fun and aliveness is just as important as your big professional swingWhy "if you have more than three priorities, you have none" — and what it costs you to stay scatteredHow women are socialized to say yes to all the small things, hold everything for everyone, and never make the big moves toward the thing that's actually theirs to makeWhy your brain's negativity bias and your tendency to over-serve everyone around you are the same problem — and require the same intentional solutionHow the Blueprint works with your subconscious: when you choose a direction, your brain starts filtering for it and pulling you toward it — instead of keeping you stuck in reaction mode, replaying the pastThe difference between avoiding what you don't want and actively choosing what you do — and why only one of those creates real changeWhat essentialism looks like in practice: letting go of everything — habits, people, scrolling, energy drains — that doesn't code you toward the result you're creatingWhat becomes possible in just six months when you have a Blueprint, a community, and accountability — moves, funding, horses, healed marriages, inner peace, and wild things Marie has watched happen inside the MoxieThe Moxie Mastermind is enrolling for the September cohort now.
