Running Kept Me Sane | Brian Passenti on Sobriety, Leadville & Ultrarunning

What role can running play across an entire lifetime? For Brian Pesenti, running has been there through competition, Ironman, ultrarunning, ten Leadville 100 finishes, coaching, injury, loss and nearly a decade of sobriety. Brian joins Joe Hardin on Beyond The Finish Line to talk about a running life that began when he unexpectedly discovered he was a distance runner as a kid and eventually led him to the Leadville 100, endurance coaching and a much deeper understanding of why he continues to run. Brian doesn't claim running made him sober. He describes it as something that has helped him clear his head, reassess what matters and return to life a better person.  They also get into Brian's transition from triathlon to ultrarunning, his ten Leadville finishes and 1,000-mile buckle, coaching endurance athletes, coming back from Achilles surgery, the changing ultrarunning community and why consistency matters more than motivation. Brian's endurance résumé is substantial, but the bigger story is what running has given him beyond races and finish lines.  If you've ever used running to think, cope, rebuild, connect or simply become a better version of yourself, this conversation will feel familiar.
