Wesley "Yeti Legs" and Marie "Basecamp" Black

Join us, Wesley "Yeti Legs" and Marie "Basecamp" Black on the YETI WALKS INTO BASECAMP: Talking. Thru. Hiking. Podcast, where we discuss all things in the wonderful world of hiking. Each episode will cover various hiking topics, the 181 days we spent on the PCT, interviews with fellow hikers/trail angels, or even chats with gear junkies. We are a married couple who love hiking and ultra running. In 2022, we sold everything to hike the Pacific Crest Trail with a continuous footpath, followed by completing the TMB. Since then, we've hiked even more long trails. Welcome!

    E107 | Walk For The Wild | ME To NY - 1300 Miles Hiked | Part 1 | w/ Wesley "Megaman" Tils

In This Episode: Tramily, today is dedicated to some pretty ripe hikertrash...his name is Wesley "Megaman" Tils. He's been on the show a few times before talking about his "Walk For The Wild" trek, but today we are talking TRAIL UPDATES; that's because he's now 1300 miles into his journey, and still going strong, despite a few setbacks. We recorded this chat while he was on trail, in the thick of it (technically in a hotel room, but still). Having hiked from Main (ME) to New York (NY) at the time of our recording, the chat threads through his experiences in each state, folks who seem interested at first but then glaze over when he details his hiking saga for conservation, balancing emotions (especially anger) when concerning the dismantling of our natural spaces including Bears Ears and the Grand Staircase, a battle with mosquitoes that left his lips swollen, and some really uplifting interviews/chats he's had with folks along his walk for conservation (chestnut trees and petroglyphs, oh my). Today is part 1 of our 2 part check in with Megaman. E103 | Nic "Darwin" Rakestraw | Imposter Syndrome & Hiking Elitism | Part 2

In This Episode: Howdy hikertrashy folks! In this week's episode we wrap up our interview with Nic “Darwin” Rakestraw. Darwin touches on the business structure for Evolved Supply Co. (his outdoor gear baby) and his inspiration for creating a small cottage name...and here's a hint, it sure as hell is not for the money. Remember how last episode we dove into imposter syndrome; well, you're not an imposter if you're doing the best you can, even as a business owner, even though none of us really have a clue what we are doing on this giant planet of ours. Being called an elitist because you like the most expensive hiking gear? Some might call you a smart consumer instead. The chat wraps talking about...bikes? Darwin has had quite the journey through cycling, bike racing, and bike-packing. He recently raced the Tour Divide - a 2,700 mile tour/race from Banff to New Mexico, and this interview covers his thoughts and plans before he started. Stay tuned for a follow up interview with him after the race to see how it went. E102 | Nic "Darwin" Rakestraw | Imposter Syndrome & Hiking Elitism | Part 1

In This Episode: Howdy, hikertrash! Thru-hiking is a selfish activity, no way around it. But, admitting that and still embracing trail community really dispels the illusion and lets you make the most of the experience.Today’s podcast episode is part 1 of 2 from an interview with legendary hiker, Nic “Darwin” Rakestraw. The conversation focuses on his hiking resume and how his relationship with thru-hiking has evolved (pun intended) over the years. He’s built a “career” (as he would put it, in air quotes) as a filmmaker on YouTube and combined his love for storytelling with hiking and outdoor adventure. Our conversation wraps with a heavy discussion on elitism and imposter syndrome in the hiking world, and how to navigate through it. Listen wherever you get your podcasts, and be sure to check out Darwin’s hiking gear shop, Evolved Supply Co. to prep for your next outdoor adventure while supporting small cottage brands looking to set you up for lightweight success.
