Episode 115 - Lady in Glen

In Episode 115 of Honest to a Malt, Mike & Duncan welcome Gregor Hannah, founder of Lady of the Glen, and brand ambassador Paul McKendrick (sadly remote Scottish internet connection as the wind and rain howls means Paul was not with us for long) for a wide-ranging conversation about independent whisky bottling.Gregor shares the story behind Lady of the Glen, from using a bank loan intended for a car to buy whisky casks, through the brand’s early hand-to-mouth years, to building a self-sufficient bottling operation in Fife. He also explains the origins of the name, the company’s distinctive bottle design, its Halloween-inspired Sewin Series and the practical realities of managing a bonded warehouse. The conversation also explores the challenges facing independent bottlers, including rising costs, regulation, logistics, duty increases and the changing whisky market. Along the way, the panel discusses the importance of refill bourbon casks, distillery character and resisting the temptation to rely solely on darker, heavily sherried whisky. The tasting includes a selection of Lady of the Glen releases, including:-Clynelish 2013 12 year old Hogshead 54.5%-Glen Spey 2014 12 year old Pineau Rouge Finish 59.1%-Benrinnes 2012 13 Year Old (6 years finish in) Cypriot wine barrique 58.7%-Loch Lomond 2014 11 year old refill oloros finish 60%-North British 1995 30 year old refill barrell 41.6%-Inchdarnie Finglassie 2018 7 year old refill madeira finish 60%-St Bridget's Kirk Robert Burns 2014 10 year old 48.5% You can buy us a dram which will make us very happy, and we will shout you out.
