The Toxic Ingredients Hiding in Your Skincare — Katya Johnson & Christi Hucks

I'm Dr. Ellen Albertson, The Midlife Whisperer, and in this episode of Rock Your Midlife I sit down with Katya Johnson and Christi Hucks, the co-CEOs of Atmosphera — a clean, climate-curated skincare brand built at the intersection of beauty, science, and sustainability. We get into what's actually hiding in conventional skincare (the U.S. bans only a fraction of the ingredients the EU does), why "organic" doesn't automatically mean safe, and how Atmosphera's climate-curated approach means the moisturizer that works in a hot, humid climate is the wrong one for a cold, dry one. I also ask Katya and Christi about their own reinventions — Christi left a career in law, Katya spent 15 years in corporate tech marketing — and how those paths led them to build a skincare brand rooted in "aging well" instead of anti-aging fear-marketing. If you're a woman in your 40s, 50s, 60s or beyond who's ready to trade a complicated 10-step routine for a simple ritual that actually protects your skin barrier, this conversation is for you. Why Your Body Holds Onto Stress & Trauma (And How to Finally Release It) | Dr. Carli Axford

I sat down with Dr. Carli Axford, founder of the Spinal Flow Technique, to talk about something midlife women almost never hear from their doctors: why your body physically stores stress and trauma — and how that shows up as chronic pain, menopause symptoms, and nervous system dysregulation. In this episode, we get into: ✨ Why declining estrogen makes stress, joint pain, and inflammation worse at midlife ✨ How the nervous system stores unprocessed stress in your spine ✨ The difference between the sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest-and-heal) nervous system — and why most of us live stuck in survival mode ✨ What the Spinal Flow Technique is and how it helps the body heal itself ✨ A simple breathwork practice you can use right now to shift out of fight-or-flight ✨ Why "sitting is the new smoking" for your spine — and how movement restores nervous system flow ✨ How to reconnect with your body's wisdom through daily body scanning Dr. Carli Axford is a chiropractor with over 30 years of experience and the founder of the Spinal Flow Technique, a healing modality now practiced by more than 4,000 certified practitioners worldwide. Her upcoming Hay House book, "Awaken Your Spinal Flow," releases in 2027. If you're a woman in your 40s, 50s, or 60s dealing with unexplained pain, fatigue, or anxiety and you've been told it's "just hormones" or "just aging" — this conversation will change how you think about healing. 🔗 REFERENCED IN THIS EPISODE: "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel van der Kolk — the book on trauma and the nervous system mentioned in our conversation: https://www.besselvanderkolk.com/bodykeepsscore  🔗 CONNECT WITH DR. Perimenopause Rage & Low Libido, Explained by Dr. C, The Vag Doctor

Perimenopause rage. 3am wake-ups. Libido that's vanished. I sat down with Dr. C, The Vag Doctor — OBGYN and TikTok's go-to women's health educator with almost 1 million followers — to talk about all of it, no filter. We start by busting the biggest myth in women's health: perimenopause is NOT just "low estrogen." Dr. C explains why your hormones are on a wild, unpredictable rollercoaster (not a steady decline), why "normal" bloodwork doesn't mean nothing's wrong, and why insulin — not just estrogen — could be driving your mood swings, weight gain, and irregular cycles. We even get into how PCOS is being reframed as PMOS, a metabolic condition you can actually treat. Then we go deep on hormone replacement therapy (HRT): who's really a good candidate, why so many women are still scared of it because of a 20+ year old study that's since been walked back, and the research showing HRT may lower your risk of heart disease, colon cancer, osteoporosis, and — in certain cases — even breast cancer. I also ask the questions you're too embarrassed to ask your own doctor: what actually helps with low libido (topical estradiol, testosterone, Addyi, Vyleesi), why taking Benadryl every night might be raising your dementia risk, and why "perimenopause rage" — that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde feeling where you love your husband but also want to scream — is real, common, and treatable. Dr. C is honest, funny, and refuses to let women apologize for having a body. This is the conversation your OBGYN never had time to have with you. 📱 Follow Dr. C, The Vag Doctor: TikTok @thevagdoc | Instagram @the.vag.doc 📚 SOURCES & STUDIES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: Women's Health Initiative (WHI) study — en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's_Health_Initiative NIH Revitalization Act of 1993, women in clinical trials — ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK236531  Benadryl/anticholinergics & dementia risk, JAMA Internal Medicine — jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/2736353 Addyi (flibanserin) FDA approval for low libido — urologytimes.com (see card above) Vyleesi & Addyi comparison, UChicago Medicine — uchicagomedicine.org/forefront/womens-health-articles  Osteoporosis fracture mortality vs. breast cancer, International Osteoporosis Foundation — osteoporosis.foundation/facts-statistics  ACOG: Hormone Therapy for Menopause — acog.org/womens-health/faqs/hormone-therapy-for-menopause

Advanced Adulting | The Quiet Parts Out Loud with Bradley Richardson

Is a midlife crisis in men real — or just an excuse? I sat down with 5x bestselling author and Advanced Adulting creator Bradley Richardson for one of the most honest conversations we've ever had on this show, and neither of us held back. We get into male loneliness, divorce, dating again after 50, why "reinvention" is a trap and rediscovery is what actually works, and why Bradley — despite building a massive platform around midlife men — has quietly struggled with the mental health toll that so many men hide behind a smile. If you've ever felt like you're the only one who doesn't have your life figured out, this episode is for you. Bradley Richardson is a 5x bestselling author, speaker, and creator of Advanced Adulting — a platform helping "grown-a** adults" aged 45–65+ navigate the shifts and challenges of midlife and beyond. His work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, Good Morning America, and NPR. In this episode we cover:  ✅ Why the male midlife crisis is real — and dangerously underestimated  ✅ The male loneliness epidemic and why men can't talk about it  ✅ Divorce, dating again, and rebuilding your identity after 50  ✅ Why "reinvention" is the wrong goal — and rediscovery is the right one  ✅ Turning 60, and why it's a whole different chapter than midlife  ✅ How to stop chasing success and start chasing joy  ✅ Why you are not alone — no matter what you're going through 🔗 Follow Bradley Richardson: Instagram / Facebook: @iambradleyrichardson If this episode hit home, hit subscribe. Why People Pleasing Is Making You Sick: The Good Girl Syndrome Nobody Talks About

I used to think I was just "tired." Turns out I was burned out — and it took me until midlife to figure out why. In this episode of Rock Your Midlife, I'm joined by trauma therapist, yoga teacher, and pain educator Madeleine Eames for one of the most validating conversations I've had on this show about people pleasing, the good girl syndrome, and why it's quietly fueling burnout, chronic pain, and dis-ease in women at midlife and through menopause. We dig into why being "the good girl" — pleasing everyone, silencing your needs, chasing perfection — isn't just an emotional pattern. It's a nervous system pattern that can show up in your body as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, central sensitization, and unexplained pain. Madeleine shares how she hit her own wall during COVID, what she's learned working with women in chronic pain for over a decade, and how reclaiming the parts of yourself you were taught to silence (yes, even your anger, your pride, your "too much") is the real path back to your full aliveness. If you've ever felt like you're bending into a pretzel trying to keep everyone else happy while quietly losing yourself, this one's for you. 🎙️ In this episode, I cover: ✔️ The real difference between burnout and being tired ✔️ How people pleasing and perfectionism contribute to chronic pain & disease ✔️ Why menopause throws "gasoline" on this dis-ease pattern ✔️ The good girl archetype — how we learn it and how to unlearn it ✔️ Madeleine's journey researching Mary Magdalene and the "tower" within every woman ✔️ What it really means to heal from people pleasing in midlife 👉 Want help breaking free of the people-pleasing pattern?
