    140. Over-Apologizing, People Pleasing, and Swallowing Your Needs | The Anxious Attachment Communication Pattern

Have you ever sent "ok cool" when nothing about it felt cool? In this episode of the Speak Honest Podcast, Jenn Noble kicks off a special October series covering all four attachment stances and how each one shows up in the way we communicate, starting with anxious attachment. She draws on John Bowlby's idea of attachment as an alarm system and Sue Johnson's pursue and withdraw dance to break down three patterns. The first is the message underneath the message, where every double text is quietly asking "are we okay?" The second is the hinting and testing that sets a partner up to fail tests he never knew he was taking. The third is the overexplaining and people pleasing that keeps needs swallowed until they spill out over a single dish in the sink. With smoke detectors, fettuccine, and a 4 p.m. sleeve of crackers as her guides, Jenn shares simple scripts for regulating first and speaking second, so one calm sentence can do the work of ten anxious texts. You might want to listen if: You double text, overthink his reply time, or panic when he doesn't text backYou hint at what you want in your relationship and feel hurt when your partner misses itYou overexplain, overapologize, or people please to keep the peaceYou swallow your needs until they explode over something smallYou want to learn how to communicate with anxious attachment without pushing your partner away WORK WITH ME 🎯 Schedule your FREE 30-min Attachment Assessment with Jenn — see if the Fall 2026 Cohort is the right fit for youReady Now? 139. Why Do I Keep Sabotaging My Relationships? Anxious Attachment and the Trauma We Never Named | My Conversation with Stacey Uhrig

Ever watched your partner chat with someone else at a party and felt your whole body scream "he's going to leave me"? In this episode of the Speak Honest Podcast, Jenn Noble sits down with Stacey Uhrig, certified trauma care practitioner and founder of Flip Your Mindset, to get to the roots of the relationship patterns that leave smart women asking "why did I do that again?" Stacey shares how she went from speech therapist to trauma-informed coach, and how as kids we assess, address, and adapt to whatever keeps us safe, then carry those adaptations straight into adult love. Together they talk about why a child would rather believe "I'm the problem" than feel how scary it is to depend on a limited parent, how emotional neglect often leaves a deeper mark than the big events we recognize as trauma, and why we keep doing what's familiar even when it hurts us. Stacey also walks through her HURRT Assessment (Healing UnResolved Roots of Trauma), and Jenn opens up about a third grade classroom moment that taught her the deepest wound was having no one hold her pain. It's a warm, candid conversation about trading "what's wrong with me?" for "what happened to me?" and deciding what you're ready to leave behind. You might want to listen if: You keep self-sabotaging your relationships and can't figure out whyAnxious attachment has you spiraling with jealousy or fear that he'll leaveYou secretly feel unlovable or not enough in your relationshipYou grew up with emotional neglect and never thought of it as childhood traumaPeople pleasing runs your life and saying no makes you feel sick to your stomachLearn more about our Guest:  Stacey is a Certified Trauma Care Practitioner, speaker, facilitator, coach, and founder of Flip Your Mindset, a trauma-informed coaching and education practice that helps people understand how their past experiences may be shaping their present-day behaviors, beliefs, and emotional patterns.  Discover your Personal Trauma Roots: www.flipyourmindset.com/hurrt Follow Stacey on InstagramFollow Stacey on YouTubeWORK WITH ME 🎯 Schedule your FREE 30-min Attachment Assessment with Jenn — see if the Fall 2026 Cohort is the right fit for youReady Now? 138. How to Talk to an Avoidant Partner Who Closes Off (What Warmth Might Do)

What if the way you show up in the room shapes how open your avoidant partner can be? In this episode of the Speak Honest Podcast, Jenn Noble breaks down a 2020 study on how verbal and nonverbal affection land with partners who score higher in attachment avoidance. Jenn walks through what the researchers watched for, including eye contact, smiles, and the glow of someone who loves telling a love story, and shares what happened when the speaker came across warm and when the speaker came across less warm. Warmth and openness moved together, and the pattern showed up a little more strongly for listeners higher in avoidance. She also talks about where sincere words fit into the picture, why warmth may work like proof that love is real, and how tricky genuine warmth becomes when resentment is sitting at the table. Jenn wraps up by exploring what this could mean for the way you love the people in your life, and invites you to try a little extra warmth this week.  You might want to listen if: Your avoidant partner shuts down, withdraws, or goes quiet when conversations turn emotionalYou are wondering how to talk to an avoidant partner so they feel safer and come back soonerHeartfelt words keep bouncing off your avoidant husband or boyfriend and you want to know what else helpsResentment makes it hard to show warmth toward an emotionally distant partnerYou are curious about the science of attachment avoidance, nonverbal affection, and emotional connectionJoin the Somatic Affirmation Research Study: https://forms.gle/qnVQo2P3BhcTnEMw9  Trust me, bro? 137. The Traitor Within: How Childhood Wounds Keep You Stuck in Toxic Relationships | My Conversation with Jessica Anne Pressler, LCSW

Why do smart, self-aware women keep going back to relationships that hurt them? In this episode of the Speak Honest Podcast, Jenn Noble sits down with Jessica Anne Pressler, a Columbia-trained psychotherapist, licensed clinical social worker, and grief counselor with over four decades of experience helping people heal from trauma and destructive relationship patterns. Jessica introduces her concept of the traitor within, the part of us formed in childhood to keep us safe that later shows up as self-sabotage in adult relationships. Jenn and Jessica dig into why intelligent, capable women stay in relationships with narcissists, how childhood coping mechanisms like people pleasing or staying invisible get carried into adulthood, why couples counseling can actually backfire with a narcissistic partner, and what real boundaries look like versus a plea for connection disguised as one. Jessica also shares about her upcoming novel Traitor Within, which follows a protagonist through a cycle of toxic relationships shaped by the same childhood wounds. You might want to listen if: You keep asking yourself why you stay in relationships that aren't good for youYou suspect your partner might be a narcissist and don't know what to do nextYou want to understand how childhood coping mechanisms show up in adult relationshipsYou're setting boundaries but they keep getting ignored or turned against youYou're curious about self-sabotage and where it actually comes fromWORK WITH ME 🎯 Schedule your FREE 30-min Attachment Assessment with Jenn — see if the Fall 2026 Cohort is the right fit for youReady Now? 136. The Trash Pizza Effect: How Your Attachment Style Makes You Accept Less Than You Deserve in Relationships

Why do you keep accepting behavior you know you don't deserve? In this episode of the Speak Honest Podcast, Jenn Noble breaks down the concept of "trash pizza," the idea that when we aren't meeting our own needs, we will accept almost anything from a partner just to avoid feeling that emptiness. Jenn explains how childhood experiences teach us that our needs are too much or not enough, which leads us to stop asking for them and instead expect a partner to meet them for us completely. She walks through her 50% needs bucket concept, showing why filling our own needs halfway is what keeps us from becoming clingy, needy, or devastated by rejection, and shares the pizza analogy that makes the whole idea impossible to forget. You might want to listen if: You keep accepting behavior in relationships that you know you don't deserveYou feel needy, clingy, or anxious when a partner doesn't respond the way you wantYou struggle to meet your own emotional needs and rely on your partner to fill that gapYou find yourself making excuses for how someone treats youYou want to understand the connection between childhood attachment wounds and settling for less as an adultWORK WITH ME 🎯 Schedule your FREE 30-min Attachment Assessment with Jenn — see if the Fall 2026 Cohort is the right fit for youReady Now? 135. Is It Okay for Him to Be Friends With His Ex? | Anxious Attachment Coaching Call with Kaitlin

Is it okay for your partner to be friends with an ex — or is anxious attachment the one really asking the question? In this episode of the Speak Honest Podcast, Jenn Noble sits down for a live, unscripted coaching call with her client Kaitlin, who came in wondering whether her partner should be allowed to stay friends with his ex. As the conversation unfolds, it becomes clear the real issue has little to do with the ex at all, and everything to do with hidden conversations, a canceled wedding, and Kaitlin's own anxious preoccupation with fixing what's wrong between them. Jenn walks Kaitlin through the difference between requests and boundaries, why an avoidant partner's fear of engulfment isn't the same as not loving someone, and how to stop outsourcing her security onto a man who can't give her what she needs. It's a raw, real look at what it actually takes to become the secure one in the relationship. You might want to listen if: You're wondering if it's okay for your partner to stay friends with an exYou find yourself preoccupied with tracking your partner's every moveYou keep asking "why is he doing this" instead of "what do I want"You're dating or partnered with someone avoidant and don't understand the pullbackYou struggle to set boundaries without it turning into controlling his behavior WORK WITH ME 🎯 Schedule your FREE 30-min Attachment Assessment with Jenn — see if the Fall 2026 Cohort is the right fit for youReady Now? 134. Dance of Attachment: Secure Attachment and the Smooth Waltz

What if the secret to a calm, steady relationship has nothing to do with never struggling at all? In this episode of the Speak Honest Podcast, Jenn Noble closes out her month long series on the four Attachment Stances by finally landing on the one every other stance has been quietly pointing toward: Secure Attachment, which she calls the Smooth Waltz. Jenn breaks down why security isn't the absence of conflict or big feelings, but the presence of a nervous system that isn't constantly bracing for impact. Using a client story and research from Ed Tronick, Donald Winnicott, Stephen Porges, and Mary Main, she shows how secure attachment can be built later in life, even without a picture perfect childhood, through the kind of repair and direct expression she teaches inside the Academy. You might want to listen if: You want to understand what secure attachment actually feels like in daily lifeYou keep ending up with emotionally unavailable partners despite a stable upbringingYou're curious whether adult attachment style can change through earned secure attachmentYou shut down or over apologize instead of expressing your needs directlyYou want to know how nervous system regulation affects conflict and connection in relationshipsWORK WITH ME 🎯 Schedule your FREE 30-min Attachment Assessment with Jenn — see if the Fall 2026 Cohort is the right fit for youReady Now? 133. Dance of Attachment: Disorganized Attachment and the Pendulum Swing Dance

Ever felt like you're two completely different people in love, desperately chasing someone one day and drafting the goodbye text the next? In this episode of the Speak Honest Podcast, Jenn Noble breaks down Disorganized Attachment, the third stance in the August series on the four Attachment Stances. She calls it the Pendulum Swing Dance because it holds both the fear of abandonment and the fear of engulfment at the exact same time, which means there's no single direction to run in when the thing you want and the thing you're afraid of are the same thing. Jenn walks through the signature moves of this dance (the desperate pursuit, the sudden retreat, the emotional translator, relationship amnesia), shares a client story of a woman who lived this pattern through four breakups in two years, and explains where this wiring actually comes from and why a genuinely stable partner can feel more unsettling than familiar chaos. You might want to listen if: You swing between wanting someone close and needing them gone within the same dayYou've been told you're "hot and cold" in relationships and don't fully understand whyYou feel like two different people depending on how close a relationship getsYou push people away right before they can leave youYou've ever felt more unsettled by a stable partner than by an unpredictable oneWORK WITH ME 🎯 Schedule your FREE 30-min Attachment Assessment with Jenn — see if the Fall 2026 Cohort is the right fit for youReady Now?
