S2.12 | The Course Doesn't Change, You Do: Jacob's Last Coaching Call Before Twin Cities Marathon 2026

S2.12 | The Course Doesn't Change, You Do: Jacob's Last Coaching Call Before Twin Cities Marathon 2026 (Episode 111 overall) This week is Twin Cities Marathon week — Jacob's third time running TCM, and his first time back since 2019, when he ran it as a very different runner, and a very different person. To mark it, we're sharing something a little different: his final coaching call with Matt Welch of TAG (The Aerobic Group), recorded about a week out from race day. Jacob and Matt cover the usual race-week territory — pacing strategy for a hilly course with a brutal climb near mile 21, fueling down to the gram, taper logistics — but the conversation turns into something bigger. Jacob reflects on returning to the same course nine years after his first marathon here, and what it means to run it not as a redemption, but as a kind of reunion — with the version of himself who walked his first marathon, the version who ran his second one exhausted and still proving something to himself. He's not ashamed of who he was back then — but he's quick to admit he's a different runner, and a different person, than the guy who toed the line in 2017 and 2019. He talks openly about how much he's grown since then — as an athlete, in his career, in how he treats himself and the people around him — and about the strange, layered feeling of running this course alongside those past versions of himself, almost like closing the loop on who he used to be. As Matt puts it: the course hasn't changed, but Jacob has. Funny enough, Matt's got his own version of this same story — 2019 was his marathon debut, run on this very course, and he hasn't been back to Twin Cities since. So this week, coach and athlete are both returning to the place where it all started for them, nine years later, on the same weekend. It's a conversation about pacing and splits, sure — but really it's about what it looks like to stop needing a finish time to prove your worth, and to run a race as a celebration instead of a test. S2.11 | Protect Your 'Wind Gate': The Neck Trick That Keeps You From Getting Sick (Quick Hitter Episode!)

S2.11 | Protect Your 'Wind Gate': The Neck Trick That Keeps You From Getting Sick (Episode 110 Overall) Quick hitter alert. Kailee's Instagram reel on the "wind gate" just crossed 3.5 million views, so we're breaking down the concept here — what it is, why it matters, and how to actually protect it. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the back of your neck (specifically the points just below your skull, known as Gallbladder 20) is called the wind gate — a spot where cold and wind can enter the body and trigger sickness, neck pain, and headaches. Kailee walks through why runners and anyone spending time outdoors this fall and winter should keep it covered, plus her go-to gators and buffs, why merino wool is her favorite fabric, and a few bonus TCM tips on keeping your feet and midsection warm for immune health (and reproductive health, ladies). It's a short, practical episode you can implement today — perfect for flu season. S2.10 | The Snowball Effect: Rucking, HYROX, and Megan Corey's Path to a World Record

S2.10 | The Snowball Effect: Rucking, HYROX, and Megan Corey's Path to a World Record (Episode 109 overall) Megan Corey didn't play sports growing up. She didn't touch a weight until her late twenties, didn't run her first mile until 2019 — and sprinted it, because nobody told her not to. Now she's a HYROX World Championship competitor, the first-ever female winner of the Tough Ruck Boston Marathon (26.2 miles with a 15lb pack), and on October 11th she's attempting to set the world record for fastest female half marathon with a 40lb rucksack — targeting a 2:15 finish. In this episode, Megan walks us through her unlikely path: from a fitness boxing class in Midland, Michigan, to Beachbody workouts, to triathlons, to discovering rucking at a DECAFIT event and buying a pack that same night. We talk training splits, fueling strategy, working with a coach, the "snowball effect" of trying everything and keeping what sticks, and what it actually feels like to be alone in first place at mile 13 of a marathon, wondering if you're going the right way. Whether you're deep into endurance sports or still looking for the thing that gets you moving, Megan's advice is simple: stack days, don't compare yourself to anyone else's Strava, and find what brings you joy. S2.09 | Listener Q&A: Favorite Running Moments, How Much You Should Actually Lift, and the Best Group Runs in Minnesota

S2.09 | Listener Q&A: Favorite Running Moments, How Much You Should Actually Lift, and the Best Group Runs in Minnesota (Episode 108 overall) In this episode of the We Get 2 Do This Podcast, hosts Kailee and Jacob dive into another round of listener and client questions, this time going in blind with Jacob reading them off live. They kick things off with a trip down memory lane, sharing their all-time favorite running moments — Kailee's adrenaline-fueled final five miles of her 200-mile race complete with margaritas and grown men barking through a state park, and Jacob's breakthrough performance at the TC 10 Miler that changed how he saw himself as a runner. From there, the conversation gets practical: how much should runners actually be lifting each week? Kailee and Jacob break down the research (three to four days a week for hormone and bone health, especially for perimenopausal and postmenopausal women) while being honest about their own current routines and why strength training shouldn't be intimidating — even one session with a trainer can make a huge difference. They also settle a long-running debate: is rehab work the same as strength training? (Spoiler: no.) The pair then hands out a love letter to the Twin Cities running community, running down their favorite group runs and clubs in Minnesota — from Kailee's Wednesday morning hill workout at Hyland Ski Hills to Mill City Running, Wild River Running, Minneapolis Run Club, Performance Running Gym, and Twin Cities Track Club — plus why local run shoe demos are an underrated way to try before you buy. They close with their go-to warm-up routines, agreeing that the best warm-up is the one you'll actually do consistently. The episode wraps with a reminder about their first-ever We Get 2 Do This run retreat: a trail-running trip to Sedona, AZ, January 14–18, 2027 (MLK weekend), featuring community acupuncture, strength and mobility sessions, and a group Airbnb with red rock views. S2.08 | Seasons of an Athlete: Mark Johnson on Building a Running Gym, Recovery, and HYROX

S2.08 | Seasons of an Athlete: Mark Johnson on Building a Running Gym, Recovery, and HYROX(Episode 107 overall) In this episode, hosts Kailee and Jacob sit down with Mark Johnson — a longtime figure in the Twin Cities endurance community, former owner of Performance Running Gym (PRG), and Jacob & Kailee's own running mentor of several years. Mark shares his path through over 30 years of running, including 20+ marathons and a shift into trail and ultra running once road racing started to feel like "work." He talks candidly about founding PRG in 2017, the reality of small business ownership, and selling the gym in 2021. Mark opens up about the knee surgery that followed — a major realignment procedure after years of arthritis — and the six-month recovery that forced him to rebuild his identity around movement rather than just running. That season, paired with COVID fatigue and wanting more time with his sons before they left for college, led him to step back from the gym and social media for a while. The conversation then dives into Mark's current pursuit: HYROX, the hybrid running/functional fitness race format he stumbled into and now trains 10-12 hours a week for, aiming to qualify for World Championships in the pro division. The episode closes with Mark's reflections on marriage, seasons of life, and advice for athletes facing injury: don't tie your identity to one activity, and stay connected to your community in whatever form that takes. S2.07 | The Odyssey Was TOO Loud, Sedona Sign-Ups Are Live, and Redefining Your Next Big Goal

S2.07 | The Odyssey Was TOO Loud, Sedona Sign-Ups Are Live, and Redefining Your Next Big Goal (Episode 106 overall) In this episode, Kailee and Jacob catch up after a summer of weddings, farmers market hauls, and a very loud trip to see The Odyssey in IMAX. They kick things off with the big news: sign-ups for their first-ever We Get 2 Do This run retreat to Sedona, AZ (January 14–18, 2027) are officially live, spots are already going fast, and they break down what's included — strength sessions, community acupuncture, trail gear from Kuvetta, and an Airbnb with red rock views for miles. From there, the conversation turns personal. Kailee reflects on the post-race lull that follows a big goal — in her case, coming off Grandma's Marathon and a wedding — and how she's learned to stop forcing structure until the motivation naturally comes back. Jacob shares an honest update on the post tib tendonitis he's been nursing for two months, walking through what he thinks caused it (hello, undertrained long runs and 200-mile shoes) and how he's approaching his upcoming TCM Marathon build with a "train hard, see what happens" mindset instead of chasing a specific time. They also swap notes on business — record months, the growth of their run coaching side, a new coach joining the Oak Endurance team, and the mental math of balancing in-person work with everything else they're building. It's a lighter, more free-flowing episode, but one that touches on real themes: redefining goals once you've hit the ones you thought were impossible, managing injuries without spiraling, and giving yourself permission to just enjoy training again. S2.06 | Bone Stress Injuries, RED-S, and Why Running Isn't Enough with Bethany Brausen, DPT

S2.06 | Bone Stress Injuries, RED-S, and Why Running Isn't Enough with Bethany Brausen, DPT (Episode 105 overall) In this episode, hosts Kailee and Jacob sit down with Bethany Brausen, DPT, a physical therapist and run coach specializing in runners and pelvic health. Bethany ran Division I cross country at the University of South Dakota, where she experienced a recurring cycle of bone stress injuries tied to under fueling — an experience that led her to start Tempo Physical Therapy and Running Performance. They dig into how bone stress injuries develop, why shin splints can be an early warning sign rather than something to run through, and how under fueling can lead to RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport) — a hormonal chain reaction that puts bone health at risk. Bethany also explains why losing a period should never be dismissed as normal or "fixed" with birth control, and why resistance training may matter more for bone strength than running itself. S2.05 | Listener Q&A: Sleep, Fueling, and Why Your Long Run Kills Your Libido

S2.05 | Listener Q&A: Sleep, Fueling, and Why Your Long Run Kills Your Libido(Episode 104 overall) In this episode of the We Get 2 Do This Podcast, hosts Kailee and Jacob answer a rapid-fire round of listener and client questions they've been saving up. They start with an anatomy deep dive into which shin muscles attach halfway up the leg (shoutout to the underrated fibularis brevis and tertius), then get into their honest, sometimes blunt take on wearables — why an Oura Ring or Garmin can be useful for spotting trends, but easy to over-index on day to day. From there, the conversation turns to recovery: Kailee and Jacob lay out their real hierarchy — sleep and nutrition first, recovery tools like sauna, cryotherapy, and Normatec second — and push back on runners who reach for hacks instead of fixing the fundamentals. They share their go-to protein powder recommendations for listeners moving away from whey, then dig into how long runs affect hormones like cortisol, testosterone, ghrelin, and leptin, using appetite and libido as practical signals for whether the body feels safe or stressed. They close out by talking calorie intake, admitting their own numbers vary day to day, and reminding runners that most are likely under fueling. The episode also includes an announcement for their first-ever We Get 2 Do This run retreat: a trail-running trip to Sedona, AZ, January 14–18, 2027 (MLK weekend), featuring community acupuncture, strength and mobility sessions, and a group Airbnb with red rock views.
