In this episode we sit down with Dr. Darrell Bock, Senior Research Professor of New Testament Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary and a leading voice on Luke, Acts, and the historical Jesus, to talk about what the church cannot afford to get wrong right now.     Politics can feel like a faith test right now. If you’ve ever wondered why public life pulls so many Christians toward either retreat or rage, you’re not alone and you’re not crazy for feeling the tension. In this episode we sit down with Dr. David Koyzis, a political theologian and professor whose latest book, Citizenship Without Illusions: A Christian Guide to Political Engagement, has helped evangelicals think more clearly about Christian citizenship and the limits of politics.  We dig into a challenging idea: political ideologies can function like modern idolatry, offering a faux-salvation story that mimics the biblical narrative while quietly demanding our ultimate loyalty. We talk about how liberalism can turn individual autonomy into an idol that weakens community, how Marxism borrows a redemption arc with a different “messiah,” and why any movement can become spiritually dangerous when it starts carrying religious weight. From there we get practical. We explore how to develop discernment in an era of culture wars, social media polarization, and constant labeling of people as left or right. We argue for a posture of humility and listening, because the line between good and evil runs through every human heart. We also revisit Abraham Kuyper’s vision of Christ’s lordship over all of life, along with common grace and the need to make a persuasive, peaceable place at the public table rather than trying to take it over.     A childhood surrounded by war, spirit worship, and the collapse of a nation can do something to your soul. It can harden you, hollow you out, or make you obsess over one question: what is real? In this episode we sit down with Dr. Chansamone Saiyasak, a missions leader in Laos and Thailand whose life story moves from the fall of Laos in 1975, to a refugee apartment in the United States, where a knock on the door led to an embrace of the Great Commission. Dr. Saiyasak shares about growing up in a world of animism and fear-based ritual, and then entering a Buddhist monastery as a young man in search of truth. Chansamone also shares the shock of arriving in America with no English, the isolation of refugee sponsorship, and the surprising kindness and welcome of Christian families who offered belonging. Hearing people weep over forgiveness and reading the words of Scripture reframed Dr. Saiyasak's identity around grace, not merit, and around God as Father, not a distant spiritual force. From there, the conversation turns practical and missiological: how do you communicate the gospel in a context where Christianity feels like a foreign power or a colonial memory? Chansamone explains why proclamation alone often fails, and why holistic ministry, education, mercy, and business-as-mission can make the message credible.     The South Pacific sits far from most global power centers, but Rachel Afeaki-Taumoepeau argues it should never sit on the margins of the global church. Rachel is a New Zealand-born leader of Tongan heritage who currently serves as Regional General Secretary for the South Pacific Evangelical Alliance, part of the World Evangelical Alliance. Our conversation is part personal story and part big-picture map of what God is doing across island nations that are often overlooked in world evangelicalism. We start with Rachel’s journey: family roots, identity and how genealogy and belonging shape leadership in places like New Zealand and Tonga. From there we get practical about faith that lasts beyond Sunday, why she talks about Jesus as Lord and Saviour, and what it means to move from cultural Christianity to a deeper, day-to-day relationship with Christ. Then we zoom out to the South Pacific region itself.     Ep. 83 / Broken Walls: An Indigenous Testimony with Jonathan Maracle

    A Mohawk musician is invited to sing “Amazing Grace” at a major gathering of faith leaders in 1995, and he says no, only because a brand-new song floods his heart and mind and changes the trajectory of his life. That song was “Broken Walls,” and that musician is, Jonathan Maracle, our guest. In this episode we follow the full arc of Jonathan's story, from growing up in Akwesasne as a kid who “didn’t fit,” to carrying the generational weight of residential school trauma, to walking away from church and chasing the rock and roll dream in California, to now thirty years of faithful contextual ministry amongst Indigenous people.  Jonathan doesn’t tell a polished story of faith, he talks about addiction, broken relationships, cultural shame, thoughts of suicide, self-hatred, and a phone call from his father that changed everything. From there Jonathan talks about his return to Christianity, but the pain of being told that his Mohawk heritage, language and drum are “not of God.” He explains how that message lands among First Nations, how it hinders a proper Indigenous-Christian identity, and how the Holy Spirit is raising up a new generation of Indigenous and non-Indigenous followers of Jesus alike! We also explore practical steps toward truth and reconciliation, including the KAIROS Blanket Exercise, and why education matters if churches want to walk in right-relationship with their Indigenous brothers and sisters.
