Making a movie in English & again in Spanish with Gerald Fillmore

Gerald Fillmore is a Spanish-British-American filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor based in LA. After leaving school at 16 in Zaragoza, he came up through theatre, sketch comedy, and shorts, eventually making his way into writing for TV in Madrid.  Twelve years ago he moved to LA, where he founded a production company that this year launched its first feature film. The movie was shot in English (Face Love) and then again in Spanish (Amor en toda la cara). We spoke with Gerald about making the same movie twice, adaptation vs translation, growing up part British-American in Spain, and embracing the Latino community in LA.  To see where you can catch a screening of the movies, follow them on IG: @facelovemovie WATCH on YouTube! Immigrating and taking all the best parts with you with Anthea Taljaard

Anthea Taljaard was born, raised, and lived most of her life in South Africa as a successful woman in business before a personal tragedy led her to take a role in education in Saudi Arabia. Four years later, it would be personal happiness –in the form of meeting her Canadian wife– that would take her to Nova Scotia, where she fused her love of art with her business background to create Salt Spray Design.  Anthea’s sculptures are each filled with personal meaning, and in her recent book, Soul Decor, she helps readers select the objects in their homes intentionally, so as to highlight who they are and not end up with a pretty home that could belong to anyone. The Invite: hilariously roasting relationship dynamics

In this episode we chat about the Olivia Wilde directed film The Invite. The movie both pokes fun at and digs into the delicate dynamics within a multi-cultural couple, gives an educationally awkward glimpse into the culture of sex parties, and exposes the middle-aged person’s obsession with home decor. We also get into everything we loved, found hilarious, and even relatable. WATCH on YouTube! REACH OUT: Send us your questions to: WhereWeLandPod@gmail.com. Before Midnight: from 'inevitable' love to choosing to stay

In this episode we tackle Richard Linlater’s 2013 film Before Midnight. We talk about how this is the first movie in the Before Trilogy to explore a relationship beyond those magical first 24 hours, the bleaker side of marriage, and parenting challenges of different kinds.  As always, we also share our favorite multicultural moments and pieces of culture depicted in the movie, like Celine and Jesse spending a summer at a beach house in Greece!
