What Was Your Favorite D&D Campaign? Here Are Ours | Heroic Roundtable #21

Thirty years of campaigns, and one still lives in our heads rent-free: the De La Roche campaign. A royal family built by a card draw. A chariot race that handed out superpowers. A sword with dead kings trapped inside it. And two betrayals that brought the whole thing down.—THIS EPISODE—Zach tests Chad's memory with the card draw that set the royal hierarchy — King of Spades, the Jack, and Brandon's Joker — and the table rebuilds their favorite campaign piece by piece: the party where the entertainment turned the guests into demons, Sokolov the untouchable knight and his 43 AC, the chariot race where the winners drank from a sacred amphora and rolled permanent powers, and the King Sword, a magic item with an entire campaign inside it. Then the honest part: the two player betrayals that made the whole table feel powerless and ended the campaign early.Tell us yours in the comments: what's the campaign YOUR table still talks about years later? 👇—CHAPTERS—00:00 The Campaign We Can't Stop Talking About02:06 The Card Draw That Built a Royal Family04:57 Recreating the Drow Campaign for the Ones Who Missed It06:55 The Party Where the Guests Turned Into Demons08:30 Sokolov, the Untouchable Knight10:20 The Chariot Race That Handed Out Superpowers13:36 The Two Betrayals That Killed the Campaign16:20 The King Sword: A Campaign in a Magic Item18:24 Why Every Session Gets Compared to the Chariot Race19:20 Nobody Trusted the Wild Card21:52 The Sewer Corpse We've Seen for 15 Years23:12 Start in Power: Armies, Budgets, and 120,000 Gold a Month25:12 What's YOUR Favorite Campaign?—🎙 Heroic Round — an actual-play Pathfinder podcast ("A Wizard's Folly") plus Round Table TTRPG discussions. Answer of Answers When a goddess asks for your heart, what answer do you give? Deep within the Thornhaven Forest, L.S. faces Callista’s extraordinary proposal: her hand in marriage, a share of her divine power, and a kingdom to call his own. But some questions are easier to ask than to answer. Meanwhile, in the sacred halls of Sanctum, Flavius finds himself at the center of a prophecy he barely understands. Accompanied by the mysterious Inquisitor Coil, he seeks a way back to Thornhaven—but the Knower’s Treasury holds more than ancient relics, and an old friend may have reason to question his newest ally. One hero is searching for an answer. Another is being told that he is the answer. But are either of them asking the right questions? Should DMs Fudge the Dice? | Heroic Roundtable #20

One open d4 roll deleted every NPC from our campaign — and we didn't see them again for 20 episodes. So… should DMs fudge the dice? —THIS EPISODE— Is a campaign truly collaborative if the DM secretly fudges the dice — or are the players just acting out a pre-written script? Zach, Brandon, Jon, and our DM Chad get honest about cheating at the table: who has fudged a roll and got caught. Why players actually cheat, and why the dice might be the third author of your campaign. Plus the carriage roll that erased every NPC for 20 episodes, the nat 20 one of us wished he could take back, and the railroaded game that taught us what too much fudging really costs.
