    Can You Lose Your Salvation?

    Few questions carry more weight in the life of a believer. For some it is a private fear: I keep failing in the same way. Am I still His? For others it is grief: My son professed Christ for years, and now he wants nothing to do with Him. Was he ever saved? Is he lost now? Those fears deserve an answer that comes from the text, not from a denominational slogan and not from what we wish were true. So we will state the answer plainly, then test it against every major passage on both sides of the question.     The Kinsman Redeemer

    I'm not going to go as far as to say this podcast will help you understand the entire arc of the bible, but I will say that it will give you some amazing insight and clarity that will make you want to listen to this podcast and read the supporting material over again to make sure you are grasping the weight of the concepts. I loved producing the podcast because it gave me such a deep sense of confidence in the foundations upon which we as Christians rest.  In Luke chapter 4, the devil takes Jesus up high, shows Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, and says, “All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me.” Jesus refuses the offer. But notice what He doesn’t do. He doesn’t say, “That isn’t yours.” So how did this world end up in the enemy’s hands? And how does Jesus get it back? The answer starts somewhere you might not expect: a real estate deal in the book of Jeremiah. Jerusalem is under siege. The Babylonian army is at the walls. Jeremiah is a prisoner. And God tells him to go buy a field. He weighs out seventeen shekels of silver for land the enemy is about to take, seals the deed, and puts it in a clay jar to last many days. Why would God tell a prophet to buy land he’ll never live on? Because in Israel the land belonged to God, and when it was lost, a kinsman had the right to buy it back. That one ancient law, the law of the kinsman redeemer, runs from Eden to the cross to the throne room of Revelation 5, where heaven asks, “Who is worthy to open the book?” Today we’re going to walk that thread step by step: who owned the world, who lost it, who has the right to redeem it, what it cost, and why the Redeemer had to be both our brother and God Himself.     Why Tarriest Thou?

    Baptism, the Command, and the Heart “It’s just an outward expression of faith.” Many Christians describe baptism that way, and they usually mean it’s optional. Others go the opposite direction and treat the water as if it saves on its own. Scripture rejects both views. In this episode we look at what the text actually says about baptism. We start with the meaning of the word, then the command Jesus gave, and the fact that he was baptized himself and called it fulfilling all righteousness. From there we follow the apostles, who baptized converts the same day and sometimes the same hour. We trace the practice back to the washing of Israel’s priests before they could draw near to God. And we cover the warnings: Simon was baptized and had no part in the gospel, Judas was washed and still not clean, and Israel passed through the sea and fell in the wilderness. We also take up the strongest objections head on: grace and works, Paul’s statement in 1 Corinthians 1, and the thief on the cross. Then we come to Cornelius. He is often cited as proof that baptism isn’t necessary, but his case turns out to be one of the strongest arguments for it. He had already received the Spirit, and Peter still commanded him to be baptized. If you believe and haven’t been baptized, the question Ananias put to Saul still applies: Why are you waiting?     The Bath, The Feet, and the Basin

    I apologize in advance if sometimes this podcast seems to veer off a present trajectory but every time I do I deep dive, something sticks that makes me want to go deeper. My friends accuse me of being a walking hyperlink... guilty as charged : ) This came up in our last podcast, so I decided to return here and sit on this passage.  Most of us read straight past it. In the upper room, between Peter’s protest and Jesus’ lesson on service, there is one sentence: “He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.” (John 13:10) That verse contains two washings. One is a bath that never needs to be repeated. The other is a washing of the feet that we need again and again. It also contains a warning: one man at that table had his feet washed by the Son of God and still was not clean. In this episode we work through John 13 verse by verse. We follow the Greek words John chose, trace the pattern back to the priests’ laver in Exodus, and ask why it was the feet. The disciples had been arguing about which of them was the greatest. No one picked up the basin until the greatest in the room did. Peter and Judas both failed Jesus that night. What separated them was not the size of the failure but whether they came back to the basin. We are clean. We will get our feet dirty. Come back to the basin, and then pick it up for someone else.     "IN" Christ - Trying to Grasp the Concept

    When I was a boy, raised Catholic, I would go into the confessional and come out a new kid. My mother loved confession day. We were so good, at least until the ability to resist had worn off. The instinct behind that experience is biblical. "Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little" (Luke 7:47). Forgiveness received produces love, and love wants to obey. Paul grounds his call to holiness in mercy: "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God" (Romans 12:1). But a feeling of being forgiven, however real, fades. If the Christian life rested on that feeling alone, it would run in a cycle: forgiven, renewed, fading, failing, forgiven again. We often here the expression “In Christ” and in fact may have heard it so much we forgot to stop and examine the contents. It begs the question, what were you before you were “in Christ”. What is “In Adam”? And how exactly did we inherit “Adamness…”. The Bible even states that I'm not responsible for the sins of my father (Ezekiel 18:20, Deuteronomy 24:16) In this material by the Berean Teacher, we decided to try to answer some of these questions.     The Spiritual Threat of Abundance - Staying Grounded

    Today is the final episode of our A.I. mini-series. It began with a hard question: could AI bring about the end of humanity? We didn’t choose that question as click-bait. The warning comes from the people building these systems. Some have asked whether they mean it, or whether fear simply makes good marketing. After all, nothing gets attention like the end of the world. But the alarm isn’t coming only from the builders. Researchers in AI safety are sounding it too, many of them with nothing to sell, and they are staking their reputations on it. These are serious warnings from serious people. That said, the experts’ own estimates range from roughly zero to 99.999 percent. When the people who know the most can’t agree within a hundred points, wherever you land on that scale, you’ve landed in speculation. So to close the series, we’re going to the other side of the alarm bells: the abundant future, where AI works and the world gets better. Disease declines. Cancer is cured. There’s more than enough to go around. The optimists don’t say there won’t be challenges, but they are confident it will all work out. And here’s the question we’ll leave you with. What if that’s the harder test? Scripture records the devil tempting Jesus with bread, safety and the kingdoms of the world, not with suffering. When ten lepers were healed, only one came back to give thanks. What happens to people who no longer feel they need their Creator? In this final episode, “Stay Grounded,” we’ll talk about how a Christian should live in a world that may become more chaotic and more comfortable at the same time.     What Could Go Wrong - When the AI Bough Breaks

    “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost…?” (Luke 14:28) There’s a story about Joseph, Jacob’s son. God showed Pharaoh in a dream that famine was coming to the whole world, and Joseph told Pharaoh what to do: “Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners over the land… They should collect all the food of these good years… to be held in reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine” (Genesis 41:34–36). Joseph prepared Egypt not only to survive the famine but to come through it stronger. Now consider the AI race. Everyone is so bent on winning that hardly anyone has stopped to count the cost or plan for what could go wrong. And let’s face it, a lot could go wrong. Hundreds of billions of dollars a year are being spent on data centers that haven’t paid for themselves. A trillion dollars or more in debt sits mostly off the books. One storm from the sun could cripple the grid it all runs on. And the buildings that hold the most powerful AI in the world have already been hit by drones, robbed by spies and copied by rivals. But here’s the part of Joseph’s story most people skip. When the money ran out in Egypt, the people traded their livestock, then their land, and finally themselves for bread. They survived, but they ended up as Pharaoh’s servants. So the real question isn’t only whether the AI boom will go bust. It’s who will own everything when the money fails. In this episode, Part 5 of Quantum, AI and the End of the Human Race, we look at what could go wrong, and what the Bible says about towers left half-built, barns built too big, and borrowers who become servants.     The Other Hand - The AI Distraction

    Every magician knows the oldest trick in the trade: get the audience to watch one hand while the other does the real work. For months the AI conversation has circled one question: is AI going to end humanity? My first answer was, of course not, any more than my SUV is going to back itself out of the garage and run somebody over. Then it hit me. AI could be driving that SUV sooner than we think. We’re approaching an interesting crossroads, where we build autonomy into the idol. But what if even that is a diversion? We’re an attention-driven species. Just ask the people who program the algorithms. And attention is limited: the job, the family, soccer practice, when to take the medicine, and what time Monday night’s kickoff is. Everything else gets backburnered. So while we watch the robot, what is the other hand doing? In Part 4, we follow the money: quantum computing, the math behind the machine, and a financial system being rewritten in code. Babylon was never just a city. It was a marketplace.
