Is Your Child’s Smartphone Destroying Their Attention Span?

Help! The Smartphone Ate My Family — Phillip Telfer on Reclaiming Your Kids from Screen Addiction Is your child's smartphone running your household? You're not alone — and it's not your fault. Parents today face an unprecedented challenge: raising kids in a screen-saturated world with no generational playbook to follow. In this episode of Unmasking Government Schools, Sheri Few sits down with Phillip Telfer — pastor, author of "Help! The Smartphone Ate My Family," and founder of Media Talk 101 — to expose how unchecked screen time is fueling anxiety, depression, and cognitive decline in our children, and what parents can do about it. What you'll learn: - Why "What age should my child get a phone?" is the wrong question — and what to ask instead - The alarming truth: kids 8–18 average 8 hours a day of entertainment screen time - How smartphones act like Gremlins — helpful with rules, destructive without them - Why reactive attention from screens is replacing the focused attention kids need to learn - How AI is allowing kids to bypass the learning process entirely — and what that means for their cognitive development - Why government schools are intentionally undermining your family's biblical worldview The GRACE Framework for Taming Tech: - Guardrails — Digital tools and physical boundaries (filters, internet-off hours, alternative phones) - Rules — Clear expectations set before giving access - Awareness — Age-appropriate conversations about the why behind the rules - Conversations — Ongoing, honest talks about real dangers (sextortion, pornography, predators) - Escape Routes — Kids need a safe place to come to you without fear of judgment 💡 Key takeaway: Don't just take screens away — trade up. Replace screen time with better activities, model healthy tech use yourself, and go back to old-school methods like reading tangible books and writing by hand. Parental rights don't end at the schoolhouse door — and they don't end at the screen either. 👇 What rules has your family set for screen time? Your Child’s School Doesn’t Want You Asking These Questions

Are your children's schools secretly mining their data? In this episode of Unmasking Government Schools, we sit down with Rhonda Thomas, Founder and President of Truth in Education, to expose the alarming reality of student data collection — and what parents can do about it. In this episode: 🔍 Student Data Mining — Schools are collecting far more than grades and attendance. Behavioral data, emotional profiles, and attitudinal information are being tracked, surveyed, and stored — often without parental consent. 📜 FERPA Loopholes — Learn how the very law meant to protect student privacy has been gutted by exceptions that allow schools to share your child's data with third-party vendors, contractors, and tech companies. 💻 Technology & AI in Schools — Programs like Go Guardian, Gaggle, and Lightspeed monitor student searches, emails, and keystrokes — even at home. AI is increasingly replacing teachers. Is this education — or training for compliance? 🏫 Ideologies in Private & Christian Schools — Even faith-based schools aren't immune. Find out how SEL, CRT, and accreditation requirements are quietly reshaping curricula across all school types. 🎬 "Educated for Liberty" Documentary — Rhonda shares about this powerful film that connects the dots and equips parents with the evidence they need to take action. Key takeaways: - 6.3% of children are now homeschooling — and growing - Schools can act as a parent's agent, consenting to data collection by outside companies - Technology in K-8 classrooms is harming children emotionally and relationally - Government schools, in their current form, may not be redeemable — but parents ARE waking up Resources mentioned in this episode: 🌐 Truth in Education: truthandeducation.org 📧 Contact: info@truthandeducation.org 📰 Substack: truth.substack.com 🎥 "Educated for Liberty" Documentary — watch free at truthandeducation.org 📖 FACE (Principle Approach): face.net 🏠 Classical Conversations & Public School Exit — homeschooling resources 🇺🇸 USPIE: uspi.org Take action: Share this episode with parents, church groups, and community leaders.
