Showgirls, The Birdcage & Coming Out in Hollywood | Gerry Rich

Send us Fan Mail Here’s what happens when you chase your dreams...and realize the one thing missing is you… On this week’s BabyGay™ Podcast, host PJ Brescia (they/them) sits down with Gerry Rich (he/him), a Hollywood marketing executive and author whose life story is a powerful testament to ambition, self-acceptance, and the courage to live authentically. Gerry shares his journey from a kid in St. Louis plotting his way to Hollywood to becoming the marketing maven behind films like The Crying Game, The Birdcage, and Showgirls! He poured everything into his career and pushed his sexuality aside, until landing his dream job left him asking what was really missing. He opens up about coming out to his dad in a letter sent by FedEx, and how his father went from not knowing what to say to showing up at PFLAG meetings. We talk about coming out later in life, family acceptance, queer representation in film and TV, and what it means to stop proving your worth...and start living as yourself. This episode is a reminder that it’s never too late to come out, and that life opens up once you do. Gerry’s memoir, Chasing Hollywood: A Marketing Chief’s Lessons on Breaking Through, is OUT NOW in hardcover, audiobook and ebook! It’s packed with his coming-out journey and behind-the-scenes stories from decades of Hollywood’s most iconic campaigns. Coming out looks good on you, Gerry!
