Welcome! To connect or become a client, visit catiaholm.com or call/text 956-249-7930.  In today's episode, Whole-Person Care with Melodye Gardner, PA-C | Wimberley Medical Clinic, we zoom in on the moment people say “I’m fine” in an exam room and unpack what it takes to be honest about stress, symptoms, and feeling unlike yourself. We talk with Melody Gardner about whole-person care, continuity of care, perimenopause and menopause support, and why trust with a clinician changes everything. • how stress, grief, and worry show up as physical symptoms • why the mind-body connection makes anxiety and hormones easy to confuse • what continuity of care looks like in real life and why being known matters • Melody’s path from teacher and coach to physician associate in family medicine • how a PA can run and purchase a clinic in Texas with physician supervision • what to say if you have avoided the doctor because of shame or fear • practical ways clinicians help patients feel safe and unjudged in vulnerable exams • what perimenopause and menopause can feel like and why it is not a personal failing • common symptoms including sleep changes, fatigue, mood shifts, joint pain, and weight redistribution • what “getting checked” involves and why symptoms often guide treatment • how we talk through hormone replacement therapy concerns without rushing decisions • why exercise supports sleep, bones, mood, and long-term health without perfection • why weight is not just calories in and calories out and what else matters Show Guest: Melodye Gardner PA-C, Wimberley Medical Clinic Melodye Gardner is a Board-Certified Physician’s Associate and owner of Wimberley Medical Clinic, where she has cared for patients and families since 2010. If you live around here, she's likely looked in your ears, listened to your lungs, or talked you through something hard. Melodye was born in Abilene and raised in Crawford, Texas. She started at McLennan Community College, then graduated magna cum laude from Tarleton State with a degree in exercise and sports studies. And before she ever wore a white coat, she was a teacher and a coach. She went on to earn a master's in physical education from Southwest Texas State, spent years working in exercise science, wellness, and weight management, including walking alongside patients before and after bariatric surgery, and then completed her master's in physician assistant studies at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 2006. Her first job as a PA was at a community health clinic in Luling, serving people who did not have easy access to care. That season shaped her. It's where her commitment to accessible, compassionate medicine put down roots. In 2010, she joined Wimberley Medical Clinic. And after sixteen years of caring for this community, she and her husband, Chas Humphrey, purchased the clinic, a practice that has served Wimberley for more than thirty years. In her words, this isn't simply a business. It's a commitment. She cares for all ages: family medicine, preventive care, chronic disease management, perimenopause and menopause care, weight management, and those same-day sick visits we are all so grateful for.  You can connect with Melodye on Facebook, or at Wimberley Medical Clinic, 512- 847-6789.  Support the show Couch Time with Cat isn’t therapy—it’s real conversation designed to support your journey alongside any personal or professional help you're receiving. Write Your Story, Create Your Life with artist Brooklyn James

Welcome! To connect or become a client visit catiaholm.com or call/text 956-249-7930.  In today's episode, Write Your Story, Create Your Life with artist Brooklyn James, we explore what it takes to stop living inside a story someone else wrote and start telling the truth at a pace your nervous system can handle. Brooklyn James shares how writing and songwriting helped her metabolize childhood abuse, loosen shame, and rebuild vulnerability in safe relationships.  • why untold stories get heavier over time  • how expressive writing research supports healing and meaning-making  • affect labeling and why naming feelings calms the brain  • why music reaches emotion faster than sentences  • Brooklyn’s origin story behind The Boots My Mother Gave Me and its soundtrack  • using fiction and romance as a “carrot” to stay with hard truth  • hypervigilance, family roles, and the brutal choice to leave an abusive home  • how speaking about domestic violence and suicide prevention reduced shame  • learning to unlearn armor and practice micro-moments of vulnerability  • choosing your pace and picking the right audience for your story  • why pen to paper can process differently than typing  Show Guest: Brooklyn James Brooklyn James is an author and singer-songwriter who loves nothing more than mixing books with music. Her first novel, The Boots My Mother Gave Me, follows strong-willed tomboy Harley LeBeau as she comes of age, leaves an abusive home, and learns to trust in love. There's a small town, a boy named Jeremiah Johnson who gives her a soft place to fall, and a Chevelle named Charlene. The book explores the courage to overcome, the strength in sisterhood, and the conflict and unconditional love between mothers and daughters. It also comes with an original soundtrack. Out of that book grew a platform, and Brooklyn has served as a guest speaker focused on awareness and prevention of domestic violence and suicide. Her birth memoir, Born in the Bed You Were Made: One Family's Journey from Cesarean to Home Birth, led her to speak about accessibility, rights, and choice in birth. She also teaches writing workshops that help people put their own birth stories on paper. These days she's making music with her longtime friend, cowriter, and producer Eric McKinney of Wonderland Studios ATX. They met back in 2010 when he produced the soundtrack for Boots, and they've kept a standing date ever since: Sunday Songwriting Sessions. As the duo McKinney James, they've been releasing singles like I Don't Care, One Of Them Boys, Hits Me, Crazy Like, and Up In Flames. By her own account they've written a ton of okay songs and a few rather good ones, which might be the most honest description of creative work I've ever heard. And because one career is apparently not enough, she moonlights in voice-over and film. She played a paramedic in a Weezer video. She met Harry Connick Jr. as an extra on When Angels Sing. She appeared in Richard Linklater's Boyhood for, in her words, all of a nanosecond. And she was a stand-in and stunt double for Mira Sorvino on a Jerry Bruckheimer pilot. She holds a master's in Communication and bachelor's degrees in both Nursing and Animal Science. So she can write the song, check your vitals, and probably deliver a calf. But what she finds most thrilling is being a mother to two illuminating little souls and a wife to the one big soul they get their light from. She says he's the hero in all her stories. Brooklyn fits this topic because she doesn't just tell her own story. She helps other people find the words for theirs.  You can connect with Brooklyn at: www.brooklyn-james.com, on Instagram @brooklynjamesauthor, and you can buy her books on Amazon, The Boots My Mother Gave Me .  Support the show Couch Time with Cat isn’t therapy—it’s real conversation designed to support your journey alongside any personal or professional help you're receiving. From Addiction To Healing With Justin Furstenfeld frontman and lead singer of Blue October

Welcome! To connect or become a client, visit catiaholm.com or call/text 956-249-7930.  In today's episode, From Addiction To Healing With Justin Furstenfeld, frontman and lead singer of Blue October, we sit with the parts of our stories we didn’t choose and talk about how to stop building an identity around the wound. Justin Furstenfeld joins us for a real conversation about solution-focused thinking, recovery, fatherhood, and the daily practice of coming back to yourself.  • cognitive reappraisal and solution-focused thinking as a nervous system shift  • “living in the solution” as agency instead of avoidance  • Justin’s early life, creativity, and the teacher who changed everything  • addiction as self-medication, manipulation, and exhaustion  • sobriety, arrested development, and rebuilding basic life skills  • AA and the 12 steps as daily structure and community  • depression, anxiety, and the relief of telling the truth  • making amends, repairing damage, and clearing the mental clutter  • relationships after divorce, boundaries, and keeping kids first  • self-freedom, values, and choosing peace over drama  • life on tour with Blue October and staying grounded on the road  Show Guest Justin Furstenfeld: Justin Furstenfeld is one of the most distinctive voices in American rock. As the frontman, songwriter, and creative force behind Blue October, he has led a multi-platinum band that has sold more than 3 million albums and singles worldwide and passed 1.5 billion streams. He has written and recorded more than 18 Top 40 hits, including "Hate Me," "Into the Ocean," "I Hope You're Happy," "Oh My My," "Fear" and "Calling You." Justin formed Blue October with his brother Jeremy in Houston in the mid-'90s. Drawing early inspiration from The Cure and Radiohead, he built a sound around love, loss, addiction and redemption. That sound broke wide open in 2006 with Foiled, the platinum-selling album he chiefly wrote and co-produced. Over his career he has recorded 16 studio albums: 13 with Blue October, two solo, and one with Harvard of the South. He has also released two concert films, Argue With A Tree and Things We Do At Night. On stage, he is known as one of the most powerful live performers of his generation. Fans around the world describe Blue October shows as cathartic and life-changing. His story is also one of transformation. After years of addiction and mental health struggles, Justin has been sober since May 2012 and is a vocal advocate for sobriety and emotional well-being. The documentary Get Back Up, filmed over seven years, takes an unflinching look at that journey. His creative work reaches well beyond the band. For 15 years, his one-man show An Open Book has paired acoustic songs with personal storytelling. He is the author of two books, Crazy Making and I Laugh At Myself. He has acted in the film Lights Out, and in 2024 he launched his lifestyle brand, Furstenfeld, with parfums he crafted himself. In 2026, Blue October is celebrating 20 years of Foiled with a world tour, playing the album front to back each night across Europe and North America. A new studio album is planned to follow the tour.  You can connect with Justin at: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and buy tickets to his shows at: Blue OctoberSupport the show Couch Time with Cat isn’t therapy—it’s real conversation designed to support your journey alongside any personal or professional help you're receiving. Holistic Healing and Wellness with Valerie Hemming

Welcome! To connect or become a client visit catiaholm.com or call/text 956-249-7930.  It today's episode, Holistic Healing and Wellness with Valerie Hemming, we slow down long enough to notice what our bodies have been carrying and why “I’m fine” can be a nervous system habit, not the truth. With Valerie from Salt and Light Wellness Spa, we connect polyvagal theory, rest and digest, and practical wellness modalities to one clear takeaway: safety is something we can practice.  • chronic tension that starts to feel normal  • nervous system threat vs safety and why small moments matter  • the gap between saying “everything is fine” and feeling fine  • learning to rest when rest feels unsafe  • a simple “pretend to sleep” practice to calm the body  • Mandala Hills and the path to building Salt and Light  • grounding explained and a quick body scan listeners can try  • mind vs brain and how imagery changes physiology  • sympathetic vs parasympathetic and why digestion and mood shift  • feeling feelings without adding insult to injury  • halotherapy, sound therapy, infrared, red light, and hydrogen for overall wellness  Show Guest: Valerie Hemming is the founder of Salt & Light Wellness Spa, a compassionate, trauma-informed wellness space created to help people slow down, reconnect with their bodies, and find greater ease in their nervous systems. Drawing from years of training in somatic and body-mind therapies, nervous system regulation, and trauma-informed practice, Valerie brings together a range of integrative wellness modalities designed to support physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being. Her work is rooted not only in professional training, but in her own healing journey through complex trauma and the survival patterns that once kept her moving, bracing, and pushing through. That experience inspired Valerie to create the kind of space she once needed herself—one where people can arrive exactly as they are, feel supported rather than pressured, and give their bodies and minds permission to rest, repair, and restore. Before founding Salt & Light, Valerie created Mandala Hills, a healing sanctuary on her private land where people could experience nature, community, classes, private sessions, and the simple power of slowing down. Today, she continues that mission through Salt & Light, helping others recognize the difference between surviving and truly living. At the heart of Valerie’s work is a simple invitation: slow down, come home to yourself, and discover what becomes possible when your nervous system finally has room to exhale.
