Episode 100: I Brought Back Our Guests to Predict the Future of Hormone Clinics

Send us Fan Mail 🎉 Episode 100. One year. And one very full Zoom room. To celebrate the 100th episode of Beyond Hormones, which landed right on the show's one-year anniversary, Jody invited every past guest back for one big, unscripted mastermind. Clinic owners, nurse practitioners, physicians, a functional nutritionist, a patient advocate and author, and the marketers who help clinics grow all showed up to answer the questions clinic owners are actually asking right now. Dr. Steve Gershon on the next generation of AI scribes. Deanna on dropping insurance and finding "her people." Marla on being "somebody's cup of whiskey." Patrick on the 15-minute exit call that can save patients you'd otherwise write off. Rebekah on the patient who ran her advice through ChatGPT. And a conversation about wanting to quit that brought more than one guest to tears. It ends with a lightning round prediction: what's the next big wellness trend? Sarcopenia. Pharma-grade peptides. Portable health records. Cognitive performance. And patients who are finally done with the insurance system. Thank you for 100 episodes. Every guest's episode is linked below, and every one is worth a listen. Topics covered: • How AI will change hormone and integrative care over the next few years • Offering peptides and new therapies responsibly vs. chasing a trend • Competing with 10-minute online hormone clinics (and why you might not have to) • What to say when a patient leaves, and the exit call that saves them • The post–discovery call survey question that surfaces hidden objections • How today's hormone patients are different: more educated, sometimes over-informed • Have you checked what ChatGPT says about your clinic? • What's working in marketing now: long-form FAQ pages, Substack and AI visibility • Have you ever wanted to quit? What keeps clinic owners going • Predictions: the next big wellness trend Featuring (in order of introduction): Patrick Dermody, Accelerated Medical Practices · https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/how-to-grow-a-hormone-clinic-without-burning-out/id1844484210?i=1000730487679 Daria Anne DiGiovanni, True Voice Writing Services https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ep-25-what-patients-are-really-thinking-and-why/id1844484210?i=1000745658391 Grab Daria Anne’s Book: https://www.amazon.com/Escape-Sick-Care-System-Overcoming-Hashimotos/dp/B0FRGBWR22/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1C0SZ8F0WV8ZF&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.bLzD2Ov_MHnWz_cBeqq5ew.g5kLxsn256c0As58MqxnpekiO1TwSCE6d2uwm0ssQX8&dib_tag=se&keywords=My+Escape+from+the+Sick+Care+System&qid=1793391382&sprefix=my+escape+from+the+sick+care+system+%2Caps%2C179&sr=8-1 Marla Osner, Eclipse Total Health · https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ep-62-she-was-the-patient-how-a-perimenopause/id1844484210?i=1000771548474 Keith Reeves, Optimized Wellness ·https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/from-software-to-hormones-how-a-non-medical-founder/id1844484210?i=1000733676480 Deanna Woodroffe, NP, Vibrant Health of Colorado · https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ep-93-from-6-000-patients-to-700-the-honest-truth/id1844484210?i=1000791901696 Isaac Justesen, Patient Partners · Episode Drops November 9, 2026 Jamie Layne, Accelerated Medical Practices · https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ep-52-he-built-the-engine-behind-amp-and-he-happens-to/id1844484210?i=1000765933345 Dr. Eric Fete, PrimeX · https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ep-33-the-fitness-doctor-blueprint-referrals-real/id1844484210?i=1000750926626 Dr. Steve Gershon, Optimized Hormones · https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/from-pain-to-purpose-building-a-patient-first/id1844484210?i=1000734891198 Rebekah Presley, NP, Restorative Health and Wellness · https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ep-99-pivoting-isnt-failure-a-first-gen-np-on/id1844484210?i=1000798029409 Uli Iserloh, Big Boost Marketing · https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ep-87-chatgpt-already-answered-your-patients-question/id1844484210?i=1000788169969 Beejal Parmar · Bee Epic Outsourcing https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ep-89-the-bee-inspired-company-quietly-fixing/id1844484210?i=1000789364388 Marlyn Diaz, Marlon Wellness, author of Beyond Radiant ·https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/food-hormones-and-the-sparkly-unicorn-of/id1844484210?i=1000732632656 Substack - https://substack.com/@marlynwellness/notes MaryAnn Butler, Wellness Firm Consulting · https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/start-small-learn-deep-the-inspiring-journey-of-np/id1844484210?i=1000741211441 Connect with Jody: Join the Accelerator, our free community: https://acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/community Book a strategy session: https://acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/book-a-consultation-call/ Practice Automation System: https://acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/our-services/practice-automation-system/ Want to be guest #101 and beyond?:  https://acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/podcast Email Jody: jody@acceleratedmedicalpractices.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/acceleratedmedicalpractices Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/acceleratedmedicalpractices  This podcast is powered by Accelerated Medical Practices, where we believe hormone and wellness care should be both life-changing and profitable.  If you own or run a clinic and are interested in being a guest on the show, please complete the form here and let's connect!  Or email Jody at Jody@AcceleratedMedicalPractices.com.  🚀 Grow your clinic with proven systems at AcceleratedMedicalPractices.com For more Insights and Tips on Growing Your Hormone Clinic, subscribe to THE AMP Report sent every other Thursday and follow us on social media for "almost" daily tips!  Get The AMP Report Instagram Facebook LinkedIn YouTube Last BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST, is your looking for the fast track to growing your clinic, check out The AMP Accelerator - A free membership site filled with on demand course content to allow you to learn what you need, when yo...

    Ep #99 - Pivoting Isn't Failure: A First-Gen NP on Building a Cash-Pay Clinic From Scratch

Send us Fan Mail Twelve months. Five or six providers. Every one of them told her the same thing: "Your labs are normal. You're fine." She wasn't fine. When someone finally ran a full thyroid panel, Rebekah Presley found her answer, and the experience that would eventually shape her entire practice. Rebekah is a board-certified nurse practitioner and the founder of Restorative Health and Wellness in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She started as a labor and delivery nurse, earned her master's from Frontier Nursing University, and spent more than three years in pain management watching patients juggle five-plus prescriptions just to get through the day. She knew there had to be a better way. As the first college graduate in her family, with no business owners to learn from, she spent a full year researching before opening her doors in 2023. In this episode, Jody and Rebekah get honest about what nobody tells you when you go from clinician to clinic owner. Rebekah shares how she underpriced everything at the start (think 10% markup on labs and $99-a-month unlimited care), how she rebuilt her membership into three tiers plus a fee-for-service option for women who aren't ready to commit, and why IV therapy has become the front door to her hormone practice. She also opens up about two marketing investments that didn't pay off, including one that cost her a hefty sum and brought in zero patients, and what's working for her instead. If you're early in your ownership journey, or still thinking about making the leap, Rebekah's story will make you feel a lot less alone. Topics covered -Twelve months of "normal" labs, and how Rebekah's own diagnosis shaped her practice -Going from first-generation college grad to clinic owner, and the one conversation that started it -Analysis paralysis, imposter syndrome, and why you need to put an opening date on the calendar -Pricing as a clinician: underpricing, cost of goods sold, and unwinding a $99 unlimited membership -Building a three-tier membership (with help from AI) plus a fee-for-service option for women -The 15-minute clarity call: why it prevents "bait and switch" moments and why she doesn't run it herself -Using IV therapy as an entry point and lead source for hormone and functional medicine care -Two marketing mistakes, and why local referral partners outperformed a paid agency -What to expect from any marketing agency every month, and when to cut ties -Rebekah's advice for anyone opening a cash-pay clinic right now Connect with Rebekah Website: https://restorativehealthandwellnessok.com/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/restorativehealthandwellnessok Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/restorativehealthok/ Connect with Jody Practice Automation System:  https://acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/our-services/practice-automation-system/  Book a strategy session: https://acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/book-a-consultation-call/  The Accelerator: https://accelerator.acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/  Email Jody: jody@acceleratedmedicalpractices.com  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/acceleratedmedicalpractices  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/acceleratedmedicalpractices  This podcast is powered by Accelerated Medical Practices, where we believe hormone and wellness care should be both life-changing and profitable.

Ep #98 - Selling Is the Transfer of Enthusiasm: 25 Years of Cash-Pay Lessons from a Chiropractor Turned Functional Medicine Doc

Send us Fan Mail Do you blink when you quote your prices? Dr. Kevin Smith used to. Then a contractor handed him a $25,000 bathroom estimate without flinching, and it changed how he thought about charging for his care. In this episode, Jody sits down with Dr. Kevin Smith, a Palmer-trained chiropractor, board-certified clinical nutritionist, and certified functional medicine practitioner who has been in practice since 2001. As founder of Chronic Condition Center outside Pittsburgh, Kevin has niched down twice: peripheral neuropathy on the chiropractic side, and hypothyroidism and autoimmunity on the metabolic side. He shares how a handful of "mystery" patients pushed him past back and neck pain and into lab testing and root-cause care. Then they get into the business. Kevin walks through the online quizzes he uses to educate and qualify patients, the three buying questions at the end that separate the ready from the curious, and how a high score turns into a personal text, a discovery call, and a consult, in person or over Zoom. He explains why he replaced his front desk with a live-answer call service, why every staff member should pay for themselves, and how he handles "Do you take my insurance?" and "What's the guarantee?" Jody and Kevin also dig into the difference between sales and manipulation, the step-down offer, and why the right patients will pay what you're worth once you show them the value. If talking money with patients still feels awkward, or you're burned out on calls that go nowhere, this conversation will change how you think about selling your care. Topics covered -From chiropractor to functional medicine: following the cases that didn't fit -Niching down inside a niche: neuropathy, hypothyroidism, and autoimmunity -Starting the "anything else going on?" conversation with existing patients -Using a two-minute quiz to educate and qualify new patients -The three buying questions every assessment should end with -Why education beats trying to outspend pharma advertising -Running lean: a live call service instead of a front desk -Handling the insurance and guarantee objections -Sales vs. manipulation, and leading with your best recommendation -The bathroom quote that changed how Kevin prices his care Connect with Kevin Website: https://www.metabolicsolutions.net/  Free Metabolic Health Assessment:  https://www.metabolicsolutions.net/metabolic-scorecard/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kevinsmithdc/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/cccpa1  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KevinSmithdc  Connect with Jody and AMP Practice Automation System: https://acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/our-services/practice-automation-system/  Book a strategy session: https://acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/book-a-consultation-call/  The Accelerator: https://accelerator.acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/  Email Jody: jody@acceleratedmedicalpractices.com  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/acceleratedmedicalpractices  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/acceleratedmedicalpractices  This podcast is powered by Accelerated Medical Practices, where we believe hormone and wellness care should be both life-changing and profitable.

Ep #97 - Your Midlife Patients Need a Health Advisor, Not a Quick Fix | Philip Blackett, Life After 40

Send us Fan Mail What's going on in your patient's head before they ever book the appointment? Philip Blackett knows, because he was that patient. On Thanksgiving Day 2024, he turned 40. On paper he had everything to be thankful for: great schools, great jobs, a business of his own, a wife, twin daughters, and a fresh start in Florida. On the inside, he was burnt out, overweight, and had no idea what came next. A 20-minute walk around the neighborhood turned into a six-month reset, and that reset turned into Life After 40, a platform helping people 35 to 55 build better habits across nutrition, exercise, mindset, and recovery. Philip isn't a clinician, and that's the point. In this conversation, Jody and Philip look at midlife from the patient's side of the exam table, and what that means for how you run your practice. Philip explains why midlife sneaks up on high achievers like the frog in a slowly heating pot, and why men are dealing with hormone changes too, even if nobody calls it andropause. He makes a case every clinic owner should hear: we have financial advisors who plan 40 years ahead with us, so why don't we have that for our health? Jody and Philip also dig into why a seven-minute annual PCP visit leaves patients searching Google and AI for answers, how pre-educating patients before they sit in your chair changes the visit, and why a referral network beyond your specialty serves the whole person. If you treat the 35-to-55 crowd, this one will change how you think about who you're actually serving. Topics covered: • The Thanksgiving birthday that started Life After 40 • The "boiling frog" pattern behind most midlife crises • The sandwich generation: career, kids, aging parents, and your health • Why men need the hormone conversation too • The financial-advisor model for long-term health planning • The seven-minute PCP visit and the patient education gap • Pre-educating patients before the first appointment • Building a referral network across specialties • Why "doing nothing" is still a decision Connect with Philip: Website: LifeAfter40.com Podcast: Life After 40 https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/life-after-40/id1866260086 Community (Skool): https://www.skool.com/midlife  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/philipblackett/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/philipblackett/  Connect with Jody: Book a strategy session: https://acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/book-a-consultation-call/  Practice Automation System: https://acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/our-services/practice-automation-system/  The Accelerator - The AMP Community: https://accelerator.acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/  Want to be a guest? https://solutions.acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/podcast-page.html This podcast is powered by Accelerated Medical Practices, where we believe hormone and wellness care should be both life-changing and profitable.

Ep #96 - Loved Them in the Interview, Gone in 90 Days? How to Hire Right for Your Clinic

Send us Fan Mail You loved them in the interview. Ninety days later, they were gone. Sound familiar? On this week's “How-To” episode, Jody walks clinic owners through the exact hiring process she used with every single employee in her own Orlando clinic, the process behind one of the best cultures she's ever seen in a medical office. This one lives in the W of the POWER Framework: Workforce. Jody opens with the hire that taught her the hard way. A patient liaison who was polished, warm and perfect in the interview, and gone within 90 days. Looking back, Jody realized she hadn't hired the person. She'd hired the interview. And the candidate never got to see what a real day in the clinic felt like, either. From there, she lays out the four things she does before hiring anyone, from the front desk to a director of marketing: core values that are truly non-negotiable (and the interview question that shows whether a candidate shares them), the paid shadow day that shows you who someone really is, the project that shows you how their brain works, and the skill survey that breaks the tie between two great finalists. She closes with what to do in the first 90 days if the red flags show up, and three things you can do this week, whether you're hiring right now or not. Driving or out on a walk? Don't take notes. Grab the free Right-Fit Hiring Guide below. It spells out every step, with a shadow day checklist, project ideas by role and a scoring sheet. Topics covered: • Why a bad hire is usually a process problem, not bad luck • Job posts and screening questions that filter out the button-pushers • The whiteboard exercise for narrowing your core values to five to seven • The "tell me about a time" question that shows whether a value is real for a candidate • Why shadow days should be paid, and the green and red flags to watch for • How a shadow day protects the candidate as much as it protects you • Scenario questions and take-home projects for every role in your clinic • The independent skill survey for choosing between great finalists • Your first 90 days: 10 written expectations, 30-day check-ins and when to let go Free resource: The Right-Fit Hiring Guide: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Do4HMdWVJuHZUzlYoMnxeF_0aYGa8sNZ/view Connect with Jody: Join the Accelerator, our free community: https://accelerator.acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/ Book a strategy session: https://acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/book-a-consultation-call/ Practice Automation System: https://acceleratedmedicalpractices.com/our-services/practice-automation-system/ Email Jody directly: jody@acceleratedmedicalpractices.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/acceleratedmedicalpractices Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/acceleratedmedicalpractices This podcast is powered by Accelerated Medical Practices, where we believe hormone and wellness care should be both life-changing and profitable.

Ep #95 - Her labs look perfect. So why does she still feel like crap?

Send us Fan Mail Your patient's labs say optimized. Her symptom survey says otherwise. Before you reach for a higher dose, there's one question you might be skipping: what is she eating? In this episode, Jody reconnects with Johannah Katz, a registered dietitian with a master's in applied nutrition and dietetics who now sees patients at Nourish. Johannah's path is anything but typical. She chose a career as a singer and actress, until a BRCA2-positive diagnosis sparked her return to school to focus on risk reduction through diet and lifestyle. While finishing her master's, she interned at the Florida Center for Hormones and Wellness, where Jody was COO, and built the clinic's first nutrition program from scratch. Johannah and Jody get candid about what worked, what didn't (spoiler: trying to "membershipize" nutrition), and why a dietitian may be the unique identifier your clinic needs to stand out. Johannah walks through exactly how she starts with every patient, why sleep and hunger hormones can make or break results, and why prescribing GLP-1s without nutrition support does patients a disservice. She also shares her no-pressure approach to showing up online as a provider, and why staying a practicing clinician is what makes your content credible. If you've got patients who are optimized on paper but still not feeling it, this conversation will change the questions you ask. Topics covered: -Why optimized labs don't always mean a patient feels optimized -Lessons learned building a nutrition program inside a hormone clinic -Why bundling nutrition into a membership can work against you -What genetic testing (like 3X4) adds to a nutrition plan -Johannah's starting framework: dietary intake, tracking, and SMART goals -Sleep, ghrelin, and why tired patients reach for chips instead of carrots -GLP-1s: protein, muscle preservation, and why what you eat matters more when you eat less -What to look for when hiring an in-house registered dietitian -Content tips for providers: find your niche, pick one platform, stay consistent, stay a provider -Confidence, imposter syndrome, and "stronger body, stronger mind" Connect with Johannah:  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/johannahkatzrd/  Book with Johannah at Nourish: https://signup.nourish.com/providers/johannah-katz?referralSource=Nourish+dietitian&referralName=Johannah+Katz&utm_source=Nourish_dietitian&utm_term=Johannah_Katz  Want the whole system? Ep #94 - 5 Reasons Why I Always Use Membership Models

Send us Fan Mail What if the way you price your services is the reason you're stressed, stuck selling, and watching patients walk out confused? In this solo episode, Jody breaks down the pricing model she recommends to every hormone clinic she works with — and the five reasons she'll never stop recommending it. After nearly a hundred episodes, pricing is the question that comes up more than any other, so Jody finally lays out exactly why she's such a big believer in the membership model, and what kind of membership actually works (hint: it's not the monthly-fee-for-a-discount version). Drawing on her years inside the Orlando clinic she helped grow to $4 million, Jody shares how a membership model kept revenue on pace through 2020, why cutting every service except hormones for a full year was the turning point for that practice, and the simple three-step patient flow that produced a 97% close rate. She also gets real about the hardest moment in any consult — the pricing conversation — and why most business experts can't help you with it because they've never sat at that table. Whether you're thinking about launching a membership or you already have one and you're second-guessing it because a few patients pushed back, this episode will give you clarity and confidence to stick with it. Topics covered: - Fee for service vs. bundles vs. memberships, and which membership model actually works - How memberships create runway and predictable profit (and got one clinic through COVID) - Why keeping patients is more patient-centric than chasing new ones - The "less is more" decision that set up a $4 million practice - How memberships take the selling out of your practice - The easier add-on conversation when patients don't pay at the visit - The consult-to-yes flow behind a 97% close rate - Why you can't be the solution for everyone, and what a fair membership looks like Have a pricing question? Ep #93 - From 6,000 Patients to 700: The Honest Truth About Switching to a Membership Model

Send us Fan Mail What happens when a practice with 2,000 patients and 21 people on payroll walks away from insurance? Deanna Woodroffe knows, because she did it. Deanna is a board-certified women's health nurse practitioner and the owner of Vibrant Health of Colorado, a multi-specialty practice with locations near Denver and in Eagle offering primary care, gynecology, hormone therapy, and functional medicine under one roof. She has been prescribing hormones for more than 20 years, and for most of that time she was fiercely committed to taking insurance. Her reason goes back to a moment at 21, sitting in a functional medicine practitioner's parking lot, crying because she finally had answers and couldn't afford them. In this episode, Deanna walks Jody through the entire switch to a membership model, including the parts most people leave out. She shares what finally forced the decision (burned-out providers managing 2,000 patients each, and Medicare pulling telehealth with almost no notice), the six months of daily prep before announcing, and the terrifying stretch when sign-ups stalled for nearly three months. She talks candidly about handling angry patients and brutal online comments, taking a pay cut to keep her team intact, and why she now has to market for the first time ever. And the other side? Hour-long visits, calling patients the day after an appointment, real vacations, and providers who feel passionate about medicine again. About

Running a hormone or wellness clinic is rewarding — but let’s be honest, it can also feel overwhelming. That’s where Beyond Hormones: The Business of Wellness comes in. Hosted by Jody Layne, co-founder of Accelerated Medical Practices, this podcast is here to help providers build thriving, profitable practices without losing sight of why they started. With over a decade of experience in marketing, sales, and business development — and after working with hundreds of clinics — Jody brings both expertise and encouragement to every episode. You’ll hear candid conversations with clinic owners who’ve been in your shoes, expert interviews with professionals who share tools and wisdom to help your practice grow, and Jody’s own insights from years of working behind the scenes in the hormone industry. If you’re ready to feel more confident, more supported, and a little less alone on the journey of business ownership, you’re in the right place.
