☕ Welcome to Menobodies! Grab your coffee and settle in for a chitty-chat about something I feel like I’m doing ALL. THE. TIME. lately… 🔎 Researching everything! Perimenopause has made me much more curious about what’s going into my body, onto my body, and into my life. From finding reputable menopause providers and researching HRT, to skincare, supplements, food, products my daughters bring me, and even whether a $5 lotion is actually moisturizing my skin or just making me smell yummy 😂 — I feel like I’m constantly Googling, asking Siri, or investigating something. And honestly? I think there’s a reason for that. As we get older, we may become more aware of how the choices we make can affect our bodies and our long-term health. I’m thinking differently about nutrition, ingredients, skincare, healthcare providers, and the products I spend my money on. 🧴 Sometimes I want the fun-smelling lotion and the nostalgic Bath & Body Works vibes. Other times, I know my skin needs the boring, unscented, heavy-duty moisturizer. 😂 🍓 The same thing happens with food. I may WANT the Halloween candy and ice cream, but I’m also thinking more about protein, fiber, fresh foods, ingredients, and how what I eat supports my body. But with all of this information available to us, how do we know what—or who—to trust? In this episode, we’re talking about some questions I think are worth asking before we buy a product, follow someone's advice, choose a healthcare provider, or believe the latest “miracle” claim on social media. ✨ Who is giving the advice, and are they qualified to give it? ✨ What research or sources are backing up the claims? ✨ Is the research independent, or is the company selling the product doing the research? ✨ What does a company actually mean when it uses words like natural, organic, or low sugar? ✨ Does the brand have a reputation for quality, or did it just appear on social media last week? ✨ What are other people saying consistently across multiple reviews and sources? ✨ And perhaps most importantly… do I actually want or need this, or did social media convince me that I do? I also share a story from when I was younger about a supplement that was marketed to change the body in a significant way — and why that experience has stuck with me when I think about products that can have real effects on our bodies. 🚨 And yes, this includes being thoughtful about things like HRT. HRT can be an important tool for some people navigating perimenopause and menopause, but it isn't a magical one-stop cure for everything. 💜 The goal isn't to be afraid of every product, provider, supplement, or recommendation. It’s to become better consumers of information — especially during a stage of life when there are plenty of people ready to sell us a magic pill, potion, cream, program, or promise. So let’s talk about how we can be a little more curious, a little more skeptical, and a whole lot more informed.
