City Cast Seattle

i’ve been subscribed less than a week and every. single. day. i’ve been fed a “bonus” episode about something entirely irrelevant. look, i’m not naive about a media company needing to make ends meet by doing internal promotion. but this is downright spam, it isn’t thoughtful, and it’s cost the pod a subscriber.

I find this podcast to be highly informative and enjoyable. Every day there is something I later reference in conversation or pass on to a friend as a suggestion. And I have learned some interesting history and context about local issues. It is perfect for staying informed and connected on a broad range of things in Seattle. I also listen to NPR and KUOW daily and I find City Cast is often more relevant or interesting. I was shocked to see so many negative reviews in here. Apparently from conservative folks who are definitely not the audience for this or folks who expect a single podcast episode to have the depth of a full newspaper… I would say City Cast is a great way to stay on top of everything and then be able to dig further on what’s talked about, follow the specific contributors or supplement with other sources. Anyways, listen to City Cast Seattle if you want to be a great Seattle neighbor!!

I was super excited to see the host start this as they’ve been on KUOW with insightful takes. And, idk if it’s the marketing of this pod but the content lacks depth or historical context I appreciate. Most of the restaurant and events recs are just the same stuff on instagram that the influencers push to wealthy transplants. Hoping there’s less hype and more affordable discussion in the future.

I agree with the other negative reviews. I enjoy other City Cast shows like for Portland. But the Seattle one seems much lighter weight. At times the hosts do not seem to have completely researched the topic that they are talking about, even when there are articles in the Seattle Times that have more information. I expected and got a very left-wing view of the world, but it is a bit excessive. And do not expect to hear about anything outside the city limits except to say that it is too far and implying that it is not important. The show is still new, so I hope that it will get better over time. I'll check back in a year. In the meantime I'll continue listening to the various KUOW shows like Seattle Now and Soundside.
