WILLIAMS F1: WHAT WENT WRONG IN 2026?

Hosted and Investigated by Margot Hughs There are bad Formula 1 seasons. There are disappointing Formula 1 seasons. And then there are seasons that force a team to look in the mirror and ask a much more uncomfortable question: Did we misunderstand where we actually were? That may be the question Williams has been forced to confront in 2026. Only one year ago, the mood around Grove was almost completely different. Williams had finished fifth in the Constructors' Championship in 2025. Carlos Sainz had arrived from Ferrari and delivered podiums. Alex Albon had continued to establish himself as one of the team's mostvaluable assets. The team had momentum. It had credibility. It had a new technical direction. It had a new generation of leadership under James Vowles. And, perhaps most importantly, Williams had something it had notpossessed consistently for years: belief.

Behind the Helmet: The Human Cost of F1 Hate

What happens when the passion of Formula 1 stops being about racing—and starts becoming personal? A single mistake, a controversial decision, or one moment on track can unleash thousands of comments, insults, threats, and attacks within minutes. In this episode of Horner Underground, we take a hard look at the darker side of F1 fandom: the bullying, hatred, abuse, and toxic social-media culture surrounding drivers, team principals, teams, and even their families. We examine why rivalry can so quickly turn into personal attacks, how social media amplifies the anger, and what Formula 1, the FIA, teams, drivers, platforms, and fans can do to change the culture. Because behind every helmet, every radio message, and every headline is a human being—and there is a difference between supporting your team and destroying someone you disagree with. Rivalry belongs on the track. Hate doesn't.

    Unfair Regulations & Silly Season?

WHEN RELIABILITY BECOMES THE PENALTY Imagine leading the Formula 1 World Championship, qualifying inside the top ten at your home Grand Prix… and then being told you’re starting at the back. Not because you made a mistake. Not because you crashed. Not because you broke a sporting rule. But because your team used too many engine components. As the 2026 regulations bring a new generation of power units—and more teams find themselves dealing with penalties—we ask a question Formula 1 may not be ready to answer: Is the driver being punished for the constructor’s mistake? Should reliability remain part of the driver's championship battle, or should the teams and engine manufacturers carry more of the consequences? One thing is certain: when championships can be changed before the lights even go out, the penalty system deserves a closer look. The question isn't whether someone should pay the price. The question is: WHO should pay it?

    The Money Game

The Money Problem In Formula 1, speed is never just about the driver or the car—it is about the money behind both. Haas and Williams are discovering just how difficult it can be to compete when the financial resources, personnel, facilities, and development capacity simply aren't there. The 2026 cost cap may have been designed to bring the field closer together, but it doesn't erase years of underinvestment or the enormous difference in resources between teams. The FIA's 2026 cost cap is set at $215 million, yet Haas has acknowledged that it is struggling to reach even that ceiling, operating with roughly 400 employees compared with more than 1,000 at some rival teams.
