Link walks us through joining the  military at nineteen after losing his mother, coming out as trans mid-service  during the first Trump administration, and what it actually took to navigate  paperwork, chain of command, and a system that wasn't built with him in mind.  We get into the good (surprising pockets of support), the bad (the VA, TRICARE,  and getting kicked out under the trans military ban), and the how-drag-actually- started story (it involves a beanie hat and a TikTok chest-taping video). Susan came out in 1976 and has spent the last 50 years living loudly, loving fiercely, and  doing the work. In part one, she walks us through a life that includes marching for  the ERA, attending the ADA signing, getting married in a courthouse only to be told by a governor that she wasn't — and then becoming married again. She talks about building a career as one of the first women directors in the state of Georgia,  adopting her daughter Sarah when two moms on a birth certificate wasn't legal, and what she wants young queer people to understand about rights we take for granted.  This is history. This is community.
