Ep. 60 - When Good Things Get Out of Order

In this episode, I’m talking about something I’ve been thinking about since my last conversation on being on fire for Jesus: what happens when our faith is growing, but the rest of our life starts getting out of order? Sometimes the things competing for our attention aren’t bad things at all. They’re work, kids, friendships, church, helping people, serving, responsibilities, goals, and all the normal things that fill our days. But even good things can become disordered when they continually take the place of the people and responsibilities God has already entrusted to us. I talk about what it looks like to keep God first without turning faith into just another task, how communication can get messy when life gets busy, why marriage and family can accidentally end up on autopilot, and why being on fire for Jesus should eventually affect the way we love and treat the people closest to us. We also look at Matthew 6:33, James 1:19, and Colossians 3:12–14 and what those passages teach us about putting God first, listening well, and allowing our faith to produce patience, humility, kindness, forgiveness, and love. At the end of the episode, I share a simple priority check you can use this week: What do I say matters most to me?Does the way I’m currently spending my time and attention reflect that? And then, more specifically: If God is first, am I actually making room for Him?If my marriage matters deeply, is there intentional connection there? If my kids are a priority, do they get my presence along with everything I do for them?If I say I want to help people, am I doing it from a healthy place, or have I started feeling responsible for everybody? This isn’t about perfect balance. It’s about being willing to notice when something important has been neglected and making the adjustment.

Ep. 54 - Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts While Trusting God’s Timing

In Episode 54, I’m talking about spiritual gifts, enduring difficult seasons, and how to keep moving forward when you still aren’t completely sure what God is calling you to do. James chapter 1 has been speaking to me lately, especially the reminders that trials can grow our endurance, God gives wisdom when we ask, and hearing His Word should lead us to actually live it out. I also look at 1 Corinthians 12 and talk about what spiritual gifts are, why they may not always look as obvious as the labels in a list, and how we can begin discovering them through prayer, Scripture, service, wise counsel, and noticing where God is already producing fruit. Roman and I have both been wondering what God may be preparing us for next, so this episode is also an honest conversation about trusting His timing while still taking faithful steps forward. You are not giftless, forgotten, or behind. God may already be developing something in you that will become clearer as you continue walking with Him. If this episode encourages you, please share it with someone who may also be waiting for direction. Reflection Questions from this episode: What trial in my life could God be using to develop endurance? What have I repeatedly asked God to remove that He may currently be using to mature me?Where do other people naturally come to me for help? What type of service consistently produces good fruit?Have trusted believers noticed a gift in me that I have dismissed?Am I waiting for complete certainty before I serve anyone? Is there a small opportunity I can try without changing my entire life? What thought has been repeatedly pulling me toward hopelessness or impatience? What does Scripture say that challenges that thought? What is one thing I have heard from God’s Word that I now need to practice?
