Gut Girl Podcast

Georgia-May Parker

Hi! I am a psychologist (& past gut sufferer) interviewing top experts in gut health and wellbeing, and I'm so excited to be connecting you with the expertise that could help you. For nearly 10 years I lived with constant gut pain. I saw expert after expert. Nothing took the pain away. Desperate, I went looking for answers online and found a TSUMANI of contradictory gut health information, leaving me feeling utterly overwhelmed. Eventually, with support, I opened my eyes to a multidimensional approach to my gut health. This changed everything; the pain went away and I found my solution! I hope that you can too. Bowel Cancer at 39: The Weed Killer, The Wake-Up Call and Our Gut Health — with Nick Dugmore

What if the hidden chemical in your food is quietly tipping your body towards disease? Nick Dugmore, best known as “Duggie”, is a vigneron, founder of Stoke Wines, and a passionate advocate for glyphosate awareness. At just 39 years old, Duggie was diagnosed with bowel cancer. After his diagnosis he went looking for an answer to the question any of us would ask: why me, and why now? What he discovered changed everything: a severe glyphosate exposure, leaky gut, disrupted amino acid pathways, and a food system that had quietly been compromising his health for years. Glyphosate is a weedkiller sprayed on crops here in Australia and right around the world. Duggie explains what it actually is, in plain terms: it kills weeds by switching off a process that plants need to survive, called the shikimate pathway. Humans don't have that process — which is exactly why we were told it was safe for us. But the bacteria living in our gut do. Today, Duggie shares his powerful personal story: from the cytokine storm that left him covered in rashes and addicted to scalding hot showers, to the moment his surgeon told him his tumor was 14 to 16 months old, giving him a timeline for his tumor development that lead him right back to a camping trip with severe glyphosate exposure. He walks us through the science of glyphosate, how it disrupts the shikimate pathway in us, chelates essential minerals, destroys gut bacteria, and mimics the amino acid glycine to infiltrate our bodies. But this isn't just about one man's cancer journey. It's about the rise of bowel cancer in young Australians (up 266% in the last 30 years), the disconnect between humans and nature, our broken food system and why we're now filling stomachs instead of nourishing bodies. Treat the Cause, Not the Symptom: Restoring the Lost Gut Microbes Behind IBS, SIBO and Weight Issues

What if the root of IBS, weight struggles and heart disease isn't something a prescription can fix, but something your kitchen can? Dr William Davis is back, and this time we're diving deep into the root causes behind some of the most frustrating modern health issues. Cardiologist, #1 New York Times bestselling author and gut microbiome pioneer, Dr William Davis reveals why conventional medicine has been treating symptoms instead of causes, and how restoring lost gut microbes could be the key to transforming your health. This conversation completely shifted how I think about weight, hunger, and what it actually means to nourish my body. We unpack SIBO, endotoxemia, insulin resistance, and why some of the advice we've been given about cholesterol, calories and fat has led us so far astray. But here's the exciting part: Dr Davis walks us through practical, kitchen and supplement based strategies to rebuild your microbiome, reverse metabolic dysfunction, and restore your body to the way it was meant to function. Think homemade SIBO yogurt, traditional kefir, fermented foods, and eating when you're actually hungry without the guilt or restriction. Want to learn more about today’s guest Dr William Davis? Most People Have No Idea What a Healthy Gut Feels Like – with Dr Jason Hawrelak

How often should you actually be pooing? It's the question most of us quietly wonder but rarely ask out loud. And it turns out that's only the beginning — because there's something equally as important called transit time, and you can test it for free at home! I’m learning that normal gut health, poor gut health and optimal gut health are three very different things, and most of us have no real sense of which one we're living in. Luckily today we have brought in the big guns, the doctor of the gut microbiome! Dr Jason Hawrelak is a naturopathic physician, nutritionist and research scientist with a PhD specifically in the gastrointestinal microbiota, IBS and the clinical use of pre- and probiotics. The gut microbiome literally was his doctorate! He's written 20 textbook chapters and over 30 research publications, and has been in clinical practice for more than 26 years. In other words, if anyone can answer my burning poo-related questions, it's him. What we cover today: How often should we actually poo? What is optimal gut health — and what should it feel like? How do you know if your gut is off? What is transit time, and why does it matter? What are the biggest disruptors to our gut health? How do emulsifiers and additives impact our gut? Is gluten bad for us? Are seed oils bad for us? What other health issues, such as reflux and immune conditions, link to our gut health? Don’t Be Fooled: Know Your Farmer, Know the Ecosystem on Your Plate - Your Gut Will Thank You - with Nick Holliday

Less than a year ago, I didn't even know what "organic" really meant — let alone anything about regenerative farming. Today, passionate farmer Nick Holliday from Belvedere Farm joins me to share what regenerative agriculture and agroecology (that is: farming with nature, not against it) actually look like in practice, which labels to look for when buying good quality produce, and how to connect with your local farmer. Nick has a gift for making it all click, and this episode is seriously eye-opening — because the health of the animals and the land they're raised on doesn't just end up on our plates. It ends up in our guts. Do you live in Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast? Get your ethical, local pasture raised pork, grass fed and finished beef and pasture raised eggs from Nick directly at Belvedere Farm: https://www.belvederefarm.com.au/ Want to find good quality local produce for delivery near you? Google ‘Community Supported Agriculture near me” to find local suggestions of farmers engaging in regenerative, ethical and organic practices.  The Sustainable Table are also compiling a list of regenerative farms around Australia.
