📚10 Nonfiction Books That Will Stay With You Longer Than Any Novel

They say truth is stranger than fiction. I say the best nonfiction is harder to forget. When I think about the 1,000+ books I’ve read in my lifetime, it’s the nonfiction that stayed with me the longest. Not just their general stories or the names of the people in them, or even the simple fact that I loved them, but the details— what shocked me, broke my heart, taught me something new, or totally changed my way of thinking. And this is what we crave as readers, isn’t it? Stories that linger, that seep into our lives forevermore. That’s why we’re celebrating Nonfiction November by reading nonfiction books from Gilmore Girls for our Rory Gilmore reading challenge this month. So if you want to beat the blues of fiction that doesn’t live up to the hype with us this month, then celebrate the most impactful true stories that I cataloged in my Unofficial Guide to the Books on Gilmore Girls—the most impactful old and modern classics of all time. They just may change you. 🏫10 Books That Capture the Dark Academia Aesthetic of New England

Welcome to Friday Night Readers, a virtual book club inspired by Gilmore Girls, hosted by Julianne Buonocore, who has run a Rory Gilmore reading challenge since 2021 and wrote the Unofficial Guide to the Books on Gilmore Girls. Fueled by coffee, we help you read, live, and write like Rory. Gilmore Girls is best known for feeling light, but it actually shares many storylines with dark academia books. It all started when Rory was “Puffed” at Chilton, and it continued when she “jumped, Jack” with The Life and Death Brigade at Yale. Rory’s schoolgirl style has that traditional collegiate look, and even Richard’s Connecticut study looks straight out of the Ivy League. So, as we take our Rory Gilmore reading challenge to read the books on Gilmore Girls, let’s explore the dark academia these characters referenced, along with a few more of my personal favorite fall books with this moody aesthetic. Light a fall candle, throw on a Rory Gilmore sweater, and turn these pages this autumn as you rewatch the fall episodes of Gilmore Girls.
