狼和七只小羊|The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats

每天五分钟听经典英文故事,读绘本,磨耳朵。大灰狼三次伪装骗开门,最小的羊躲进钟盒活下来,山羊妈妈剪开狼肚救回六只小羊。 Mother Goat stood by the door and said the same thing seven times, once for each of her kids "Don't open the door while I'm away, not for anyone" "Even if the voice sounds sweet, watch out for the Big Bad Wolf" "He can soften his voice, but his throat stays rough" "He can wash his paws, but they stay black" "Listen, look, you'll know it's him" She shut the door and walked into the woods The seven little goats stayed in the house They looked at one another and stayed very quiet Soon the doorbell rang "Kids,I'm homeopen the door" The voice was deep and rough, like stones scraping on the ground The biggest kid pressed close to the crack in the door and whispered,"That's not Mama" "Mama's voice isn't that rough" They all called out,"Your voice is too rough" "You're the big bad wolf,we won't open" The wolf stomped his feet outside and left in a huff But he didn't go far He remembered what the little goats had said He wanted a softer voice So he went and found some chalk and gobbled it up He coughed and coughed When he spoke again, his voice really had turned soft and sweet So he came back and called in a gentle, silky tone,"Good children,it's me,Mama" "Open the door" One little kid softened and reached for the latch But the smallest one ran over and peeked through the crack in the door A black paw rested right by the window He gasped and pulled back "Your paw is black, that's not Mama" "Mama's paws aren't black" And the house went quiet again The wolf came back a third time This time he found the miller He spoke harshly and made the miller roll his paw in white flour The black paw turned white,as white as if it had been washed The wolf turned and pressed a white paw against the crack in the door "See,Mama's paws are white" "Now you can open up" Six little goats believed him The smallest one shook his head, but no one listened The door opened The wolf lunged inside The little house burst into chaos Goats dashed under the bed Goats leapt to the window Goats squeezed into the chimney But that big wide mouth opened and closed, and one by one,six little goats went into the dark belly, too fast to even kick their legs Only the smallest one,the one nobody could watch, crept up the wall and slipped into the clock case He curled into a ball and held his breath The wolf licked his lips and walked out the front door The house went suddenly, terribly still When Mother Goat came home, the door hung open The sheet was torn The chairs were tipped over The bowls were smashed She called their names, once, twice, her voice trembling more each time The room was empty and quiet, except from the farthest corner came a tiny sob It was the smallest goat, the one in the clock case He climbed out and threw himself into his mother's arms He told her, crying, how the door was opened and how the wolf came in Then he asked,"Mama, are they still alive" Mother Goat didn't stop to cry She took the little goat and went out to look Under a big tree on the hillside, the big bad wolf was sleeping, snoring hard His belly bulged like a pot, rising and falling Mother Goat told the smallest kid to wait outside She tiptoed over and pressed close to the wolf's belly The scissors came down One cut First a pair of black little ears popped out Two cuts Then a woolly little head Three cuts Four cuts The six little goats bounced out of the wolf's belly, one by one, surprised and overjoyed, hugging one another Mother Goat gathered a big pile of stones She filled the wolf's belly with them, and sewed it shut with a needle and thread When she was done, she led all seven kids back home, tiptoeing quietly The wolf slept until evening and woke up thirsty He went to the well to drink The stones in his belly hung heavy and made his front legs weak He leaned over one more inch, and the stones pulled him down There was a splash,a big gulp, and the water rose high The big bad wolf never came up again Mother Goat stood by the well with her seven kids and watched for a little while Then she closed the door and went home And the smallest goat, who used to fear the clock case, now bounded up to it first and set his little pillow just right 前往小宇宙评论区与主播互动

    坎特维尔幽灵|The Canterville Ghost

每天五分钟听经典英文故事,读绘本,磨耳朵。美国公使一家搬进闹鬼古宅,用实用主义把老幽灵整得灰头土脸,直到小女儿弗吉尼亚用怜悯让他安息。 Canterville Chase was up for sale, but no one in England would even ask about the price, because the old house was haunted Lord Canterville was honest with every buyer, he told them a ghost lived here, that it had been in the house for three hundred years, and that it appeared whenever a member of the family was about to die The buyer was Mr. Otis, an American minister, he only laughed and said that suited him fine, they would take the house, the furniture, and the ghost too The family moved in on a July evening, in the library, in front of the fireplace, there was a dark red stain on the floor Mrs. Umney, the housekeeper, lowered her voice and whispered that it was the blood of the lady Sir Simon killed in 1575, and that in three hundred years, no one had ever been able to wash it away Washington said nothing, he pulled out his American stain remover, knelt down, and scrubbed the stain away The next morning the stain was gone, but on the third morning, it came back, even brighter than before So it went on and on, the stain was scrubbed away, and back it came, again and again, neither of them would give up That night, a long hallway echoed with the sound of heavy chains dragging across the stone floor The door opened by itself, and an old man stood in the doorway His eyes were red, his long gray hair fell to his shoulders, and rusty chains were wrapped all around him, a low moan rose from his throat Mr. Otis stepped out in his dressing gown and placed a small bottle of oil in the ghost's hand, telling him his chains were far too noisy, and that he really should oil them Before he could finish, the twins poked their heads out from under the covers, one on each side, and two pillows flew through the air The old man stood frozen in the doorway, and at last, without a word, he drifted back to his own room, for the first time in three hundred years, he knew what shame felt like His name was Simon, and he had once been the master of this house, he had killed his own wife, and his wife's brothers had locked him in a secret room and left him to starve After that, he became a ghost, and he kept what little dignity he had left by frightening people He put on heavier chains, wrapped himself in armor, and dressed up as a headless knight, in the middle of the night, he let out screams loud enough to rattle the windows But not one person in this family was ever afraid Mrs. Otis handed him a bottle of medicine for his stomach, the twins spread butter on the stairs he always used, and set a hollowed pumpkin with a candle inside to look like a ghost Again and again he slipped, again and again he bumped into doors, until at last he hid in the darkest corner and didn't come out at all Then, one afternoon, he met the youngest daughter, Virginia, upstairs, the girl didn't scream when she saw him, and she didn't run She looked at his drooping shoulders and asked him softly why he was so sad For a long moment, he couldn't speak, then he told her about those three hundred years, about his hunger, and how much he wanted to stop, and how he could never stop On the window of the library, there were words carved into the glass, saying that when a golden-haired girl prays for a sinner and sheds a tear, this house will be at peace, and he may at last lie down and rest Virginia understood, and she told him that she would help him She followed him to a wall, the wall slowly opened, and inside it was dark, with no bottom in sight That evening, no one in the family could find Virginia, the twins searched every cupboard, and her mother stood in the rain, calling her name again and again When the sky grew dark, still no one had seen her, at midnight, a storm beat hard against the roof Suddenly, the wooden panel of the library slid open, and there stood Virginia, her hair was wet, and in her arms she held a small box She told them not to ask where he had gone, that he was so pitiful, and that now he was dead at last She opened the box, inside were jewels left for her, and a thank-you that couldn't be spoken aloud Later, in a secret room deep inside the house, they found the bones of Sir Simon, with the chains still wrapped around his wrists, they buried him in the old graveyard The bloodstain never appeared again, and the whole house fell quiet Many years later, someone asked about the ghost, Virginia only smiled She said it was a secret she would keep for the rest of her life She said the ghost had taught her one thing, that pity is stronger than death 前往小宇宙评论区与主播互动

    辛巴达航海记|Sinbad the Sailor

每天五分钟听经典英文故事,读绘本,磨耳朵。一个挥霍的年轻人七次出海冒险,用机智与勇气在死亡边缘换回财富的传奇故事。 In the busiest street of Baghdad, a porter leaned against a rich merchant's wall to catch his breath He carried a sack of rice on his back His name was Sinbad, just like the owner of the house But their lives were as different as night and day He looked up at the carved door and sighed The door opened The owner invited him in, served him food and wine, and asked why he sighed The porter said, "I carry rice all day longI earn less than the price of half a chickenhow come you live in such a big house and wear such fine clothes" The owner laughed "Do you think this house came freesit down, and I'll tell you how I got everything I own" When I was young, my father left me a lot of money I spent it on parties and fun In a few years, it was all gone When I had nothing left but a bed, I sold the bed I bought goods and sailed away with the merchants I told myself, either I win back my father's fortune, or I die at sea On my first voyage, our ship stopped by a small island We went ashore to build a fire and cook Suddenly, the "island" began to move It wasn't an island at all It was a giant whale, fast asleep The whale got scared and dove into the sea The ship sailed away without me I grabbed a piece of wood and drifted on the sea for a whole day and night A merchant ship picked me up By luck, my old ship's goods were still safe, and the captain gave them all back to me I sold the goods, made a good profit, and went home to Baghdad But I didn't keep that money for long On my second voyage, I overslept on a desert island When I woke up, the ship was gone All alone, I found a huge egg It was a roc's egg I tied myself to the bird's leg When the roc flew, it carried me into the Valley of Diamonds That valley was full of diamonds, everywhere you looked But giant snakes, thick as tree trunks, coiled at the bottom Anyone who landed there would die I filled a bag with diamonds Then I saw a piece of meat fall from the mountaintop, and a huge eagle swooped down to grab it Then I understood The merchants on the mountaintop used meat to lure the eagles, so the birds would carry diamonds up to them So I tied myself to a piece of meat An eagle carried me up to the mountaintop The merchants were shocked I shared my diamonds with them and took a bag home to Baghdad On my third voyage, a storm blew our ship to the land of cannibals A giant roasted my friends one by one on a spit My friends and I took red-hot iron rods and poked out the giant's eyes We ran to the sea and built a raft The giant chased us with his friends and threw stones They sank our raft, and two of my friends were caught and eaten I drifted alone to another island, where a group of merchants saved me I came home with new wealth My fourth voyage was the closest I ever came to death After my ship was wrecked, I drifted to an island of savages The people there caught us and fed us grass, fattening us up like animals before they ate us My friends were eaten one by one But I refused to eat the grass I grew thin as a stick, so nobody paid me any mind One night, I slipped away I climbed over the mountain and reached a polite country, where I got married But my wife fell sick and died In that land, when a wife dies, the husband must be buried with her They threw me into a deep pit The pit was full of food and water left by earlier burials, and full of bones too I lived on that food One day, a wild beast crawled in through a hole in the wall I followed it and found a way out I climbed out of the pit, and some passing merchants saved me I went home to Baghdad with treasure On my fifth voyage, I met something even scarier A white-bearded old man climbed onto my shoulders, and he wouldn't get off They call him the Old Man of the Sea He rode me by day and by night He ate and slept on my back He used me like a donkey, and I carried him for years Then one day, I picked grapes and made wine The old man drank too much and fell into a deep sleep I threw him off my shoulders, and he fell to the ground and died At last I was free I caught a ship and went home On my sixth voyage, my ship was wrecked again I drifted to an island covered with jewels There I found an underground river I built a raft and floated down it for days and nights Some merchants downstream fished me out They sent me home to Baghdad Only then did I learn that the river ran all the way to the edge of Baghdad On my seventh voyage, I ran into pirates, and they sold me as a slave My master made me shoot elephants with a bow and arrow to get their ivory Day after day, I shot arrows into the elephant herd Then one day, the elephants led me to a secret place It was piled high with ivory It was the elephants' own graveyard, where they came to bury their kind I told my master the secret, and he gave me a big share of the treasure With ivory and gold, I came back to Baghdad one last time Sinbad finished his story He looked at the porter and said, "You ask me why I live in such a big houseseven voyages, and seven times I nearly died at seaI barely escaped with my lifethis house was bought with my life" He told his steward to bring a bag of gold coins and gave it to the porter Porter Sinbad took the coins and couldn't speak From that day on, the two Sinbads were friends And the porter never sighed at the street corner again 前往小宇宙评论区与主播互动
