“I am not going to fault the gospel of Jesus Christ on the actions of men.” Those words from Yemi capture an important theme of his journey of faith: learning to separate the perfect gospel of Jesus Christ from the imperfect actions of people. In this episode, we’re joined by Yemi to hear his inspiring journey from Nigeria to the United States and ultimately to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Raised in the Pentecostal tradition, Yemi had a strong belief in God and a love for scripture. But as he continued to study, pray, ask questions, and seek truth, the Lord began guiding him toward a deeper understanding of the restored gospel. His journey wasn’t immediate or without challenges. Yemi encountered questions, doubts, and misconceptions about the Church. As an African American convert, he also shares what it has been like navigating questions of race, Church history, and identity while developing his testimony of Jesus Christ. Throughout our conversation, Yemi talks about the power of prayer, scripture study, personal revelation, and patience in the conversion process. He shares how his testimony grew as he sought answers for himself and learned to trust the promptings of the Spirit. We also talk about Yemi’s own podcast, All Are Alike Unto Him, where he explores faith, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the experiences of people from different backgrounds within the Church. Yemi’s story is a powerful reminder that conversion is a personal journey. It takes faith to ask difficult questions, humility to seek answers, and patience to allow Heavenly Father to teach us “line upon line, precept upon precept.” Whether you’re a lifelong member of the Church, a recent convert, someone considering baptism, or simply seeking to strengthen your relationship with Jesus Christ, Yemi’s story offers an important message: don’t let the imperfections of people keep you from seeking the perfect gospel of Jesus Christ.
