What Happens When You Read the Bible Faster? | Episode 37

What happens when you read the Bible faster? Can reading larger portions of Scripture actually help you understand God's Word more clearly? In today's episode of The Bible Friends, Aria, Sarah, and Cassie are talking about the benefits of reading through the entire Bible at a faster pace and how doing so can help us see the bigger picture of Scripture. As we're currently reading through the entire Bible in 90 days, we've been noticing just how interconnected God's Word truly is! From recognizing repeated themes and making connections between the Old and New Testaments to understanding individual passages in their proper context, there are so many benefits to spending more time reading larger portions of Scripture. But does reading quickly mean we're sacrificing deeper understanding? And do we have to study everything we're reading? In this conversation, we discuss: 📖 Why reading larger portions of Scripture helps us see the bigger picture 📖 How reading through the Bible more frequently helps us recognize connections and cross-references 📖 The difference between Bible reading and in-depth Bible study 📖 Why understanding the context of Scripture matters 📖 Whether listening to an audio Bible counts as reading God's Word 📖 Why we don't need to understand every passage before moving forward 📖 The importance of continually returning to God's Word throughout our lives Our encouragement is not that everyone needs to read the Bible in 90 days, but that we would all grow in our love for God's Word and make reading, hearing, and studying Scripture a regular part of our lives. Whether you're reading one chapter a day, studying one book over several months, or working through the entire Bible in 90 days, we hope this conversation encourages you to spend more time in Scripture! 💗 JOIN THE CONVERSATION! Have you ever read through the entire Bible? Do you prefer reading larger portions of Scripture or slowing down to study individual passages? Is Your Thankfulness Dependent on Your Circumstances? | Episode 36

Is your thankfulness dependent on your circumstances? Can we truly be thankful to God even when life is difficult? In this episode of The Bible Friends Podcast, Aria, Cassie, and Sarah sit down for a biblical conversation about gratitude, thanksgiving, and what it really means to rejoice in the Lord in every season of life. It's easy to feel thankful when everything is going well. But what happens when we're walking through grief, suffering, disappointment, or unexpected challenges? Does our thankfulness disappear when our circumstances change? Together, we explore how biblical thankfulness is not rooted in what we have, how we feel, or whether life is going according to plan. Instead, true thanksgiving is rooted in who God is, what He has done, and the glorious hope we have through Jesus Christ. In this conversation, we discuss: Why our circumstances so often determine our attitudes The difference between worldly gratitude and biblical thankfulness How materialism and consumerism can lead to discontentment What Scripture teaches about rejoicing in the Lord during difficult seasons How suffering can remind us of our dependence on God Practical ways to cultivate thanksgiving through prayer and remembering God's faithfulness Why the gospel gives believers an enduring reason to rejoice As we reflect on passages like Philippians 4:4, Romans 1, and James 1, we're reminded that thankfulness isn't simply about counting our earthly blessings. It's about remembering the greatest gift of all: salvation through Jesus Christ. Whether you're walking through a joyful season or facing some of life's hardest moments, we pray this conversation encourages you to fix your eyes on Christ and remember that God is worthy of our praise in every circumstance. 💬 We'd love to hear from you! How has God been teaching you to cultivate thankfulness, even during difficult seasons? Are You Reading the Bible or Reading Yourself Into It? | Episode 35

Are you reading the Bible—or reading yourself into it? In this episode of The Bible Friends, Aria, Cassie, and Sarah talk about what it means to handle Scripture faithfully and how easily we can unintentionally make the Bible say what we want it to say. We discuss the difference between exegesis and eisegesis, why context matters, how our traditions and personal experiences can shape the way we interpret Scripture, and what to do when God’s Word challenges something we have always believed. We also talk about difficult passages of Scripture, the importance of understanding biblical genre, the danger of jumping straight to personal application, and why humility is essential when studying the Bible. Our desire is not simply to read the Bible for encouragement or answers to today’s problems, but to understand what God has actually revealed in His Word and allow Scripture to correct, shape, and transform us. In this conversation: • Exegesis vs. eisegesis • How to read the Bible in context • Common Bible interpretation mistakes • Why biblical genre matters • How our biases affect Bible study • What to do when Scripture challenges your theology • How to approach difficult Bible passages • Understanding God’s character throughout Scripture • Learning to submit our beliefs to the Word of God We would love to hear from you: Has there ever been a passage of Scripture that completely changed something you believed? What Biblical Love Really Looks Like in the Church | Episode 34

What does it really mean to love other Christians biblically? In this episode of The Bible Friends, we talk about what Christian love looks like when relationships are difficult, when we disagree, when someone is in sin, and when telling the truth may not feel loving in the moment. Biblical love is more than a feeling, and it doesn’t mean avoiding hard conversations or approving of everything someone does. Scripture calls believers to love one another with truth, humility, gentleness, patience, and grace. We discuss questions like: • Can Christians disagree and still genuinely love one another? • Is it loving to confront or correct another believer? • How do we correct someone without becoming proud or harsh? • What should we do when we see gossip or slander happening? • How do we love Christians who are difficult for us to love? • What happens when our desire to defend truth gets in the way of loving people well? We also look at passages such as James, Matthew 18, Galatians 6, 1 Corinthians 13, and Jesus’ teaching about examining ourselves before correcting others. Our prayer is that we would be Christians who are known by our love without compromising the truth of God’s Word.  What do you think biblical love should look like within the body of Christ? www.thebiblefriendspodcast.com Subscribe to The Bible Friends for conversations centered on Scripture, biblical truth, Christian living, Bible study, theology, and learning to read God’s Word faithfully and in context.

You've Probably Heard "Knowledge Puffs Up" Used Wrong | Episode 33

You’ve probably heard the phrase “knowledge puffs up, but love builds up”—but is that actually saying that gaining biblical knowledge is dangerous? In this episode of The Bible Friends, Aria, Cassie, and Sarah dig into 1 Corinthians 8 to look at what Paul actually meant when he wrote, “Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.” When we read the verse in context, we discover Paul isn’t warning Christians against studying Scripture or growing in their knowledge of God. He is addressing believers whose knowledge was affecting how they treated brothers and sisters with weaker consciences. We talk about food sacrificed to idols, Christian freedom, differing convictions within the church, and why love for another believer can sometimes mean willingly giving up something we have the freedom to do. We also connect 1 Corinthians 8 with 1 Corinthians 13 and look at the relationship between knowledge, humility, truth, and love. Scripture repeatedly encourages us to grow in our knowledge of God—but that knowledge should produce greater humility and greater love, not pride. In this episode: • What “knowledge puffs up” actually means • The context of 1 Corinthians 8 • Food sacrificed to idols in the Corinthian church • Christian freedom and the weaker conscience • Why biblical knowledge itself isn’t the problem • How knowledge and love are meant to work together • Why reading Bible verses in context matters Have you ever discovered that a Bible verse you had heard—or even quoted—meant something different once you read it in context? Tell us in the comments! Welcome to The Bible Friends, where we gather around God’s Word to seek truth together. We believe Scripture is sufficient, authoritative, and living, and that every belief and experience must be tested against it.

What Does Pursuing God Actually Look Like Day to Day | Episode 32

In this episode of The Bible Friends, Aria, Cassie, and Sarah sit down for an honest conversation about what their day-to-day pursuit of God looks like through Bible study, prayer, Scripture reading, audio Bible, theology books, apologetics, and learning to keep their minds focused on truth throughout ordinary life. We also talk about how our routines can look different depending on the season we are in, what it looks like to pursue God when concentration or energy is limited, and how resources like the Psalms and The Valley of Vision can help redirect our hearts toward the character and faithfulness of God. Our conversation also takes a few Bible Friends rabbit trails into theology, apologetics, the doctrine of sin, discernment within the church, and why Christians should be equipped to know what they believe, recognize error, and give an answer for the hope that is within them. There is no one perfect Christian routine, but believers are called to continually seek the Lord, grow in the knowledge of His Word, pray, learn, and encourage one another in the faith. We would love to hear from you: What does pursuing God look like in your everyday life? What areas of Scripture or theology are you especially passionate about studying right now? You Don't Have to be a Perfect Mom to Disciple Your Kids | Episode 31

You don’t have to be a perfect mom to disciple your kids. In this episode of The Bible Friends, Aria, Cassie, and Sarah have an honest conversation about Christian motherhood, discipling our children, and what it looks like to faithfully point our kids to Jesus in everyday life. We talk about the hard days when patience runs thin, the importance of prayer and repentance, and how even our mistakes can become opportunities to model humility and dependence on God for our children. We also share what discipleship looks like in our homes—from reading the Bible together and family devotions to everyday conversations, prayer throughout the day, and simply allowing our children to see that God is at the center of our lives. Discipling our children doesn’t always have to look formal or perfectly structured. Sometimes it looks like opening the Bible together, answering a question in the car, praying through a difficult moment, talking about God on a walk, or apologizing when we have responded sinfully. Our children are watching us, and one of the greatest ways we can disciple them is by continuing to grow in our own love for God and His Word and faithfully pointing them back to Christ. If you’re a Christian mom who sometimes feels overwhelmed by the responsibility of discipling your children, we hope this conversation encourages you to remain faithful, keep going, and trust God to work through the ordinary moments of motherhood.   Check out our website here for more information and to connect with us: www.thebiblefriendspodcast.com
