    Have you ever found out that you like the same food as someone in your family? 你有沒有曾經發現，你和家裡的某一個人喜歡吃一樣的食物？ Maybe it is a food that you have eaten since you were a child. 也許那是一種你從小就很喜歡吃的食物。 For me, that food is taro rice cake, or what we call “Yù-guǒ-qiǎo” in Taiwan. 對我來說，那個食物就是芋粿巧，也就是我們台灣所說的芋粿巧。 Taro rice cake is a traditional food found in Taiwan and other areas where Minnan culture has developed. 芋粿巧是一種傳統食物，在台灣以及其他閩南文化發展的地區都可以找到。 It is mainly made from taro and rice, and is usually eaten after being steamed. 它主要以芋頭和米製的材料製作，通常蒸熟之後食用。 The taro gives it a special smell and a soft but slightly chewy texture. 芋頭讓它帶有特殊的香氣，也讓它吃起來柔軟又帶一點Q彈的口感。 Many people enjoy it as a traditional snack, but it can also be seen during traditional festivals and religious ceremonies. 很多人把它當成傳統點心，但它也常出現在傳統節慶與祭祀活動中。 Especially during the Ghost Festival, many Taiwanese people are particularly familiar with taro cakes. 尤其到了中元節，很多台灣人都會對芋粿巧感到特別熟悉。 Have you ever looked at the shape of a taro rice cake and wondered why it looks like that? 你有沒有注意過芋粿巧的形狀，想過它為什麼長成那個樣子？ Its curved shape is often compared with a traditional divination block called a moon block, or jiaobei. 它彎曲的形狀常被拿來和傳統求神問卜時使用的筊杯相比。 芋粿巧形狀似「筊杯」，是民間信仰求神問卜儀式中的器具，因此經常出現在祭拜宗教儀禮。 The word “khiau” in Taiwanese can also describe something that is curved. 而「巧」這個音在台語裡，也有彎曲的意思。 This is one reason why the name and shape of this food are both interesting. 所以這個食物的名字和形狀，其實都很有意思。 It is not just a piece of food; it also carries some traditional culture. 它不只是一塊食物，也承載了一些傳統文化。 But there is another reason why taro rice cake is special to me. 但是，芋粿巧對我來說還有另外一個特別的原因。 I have always liked eating it. 我一直都很喜歡吃芋粿巧。 One day, my grandmother told me something that I had never known before. 有一天，我阿媽告訴我一件我以前從來不知道的事情。 She told me that my grandfather also loved taro rice cake. 她告訴我，我阿公也很喜歡吃芋粿巧。 I never had the chance to meet my grandfather.He passed away before I was born. 我從來沒有機會見過我的祖父。他在我出生以前就已經過世了。 So I never sat next to him and ate together. 所以我從來沒有坐在他身邊一起吃飯。 I have never heard him say that he likes to eat taro cakes. 我也從來沒有親耳聽過他說自己喜歡吃芋粿巧。 But many years later, I found out that we both loved the same food. 可是很多年之後，我卻發現，我們竟然都喜歡同一種食物。 That made me wonder if this could be connected to genetics. 這讓我開始想，這件事情會不會和遺傳有關？ 總不可能是託夢吧.哈哈哈哈 I never got to meet my grandfather. 我從來沒有機會見過我的爸爸的爸爸。 But I found out that we both loved the same food. 但我後來發現，我們都喜歡同一種食物。 Maybe I will never know exactly why. 也許我永遠不會知道真正的原因。 But I think I am happy that I found this little connection. 但我想，我很開心自己找到了這個小小的連結。 Because sometimes, family is not only about the memories we share. 因為有時候，家人之間的連結，不只是我們共同擁有的回憶。 Sometimes, it is also about the little things that quietly stay with us. 有時候，它也存在於那些安靜留在我們身上的小事情裡。 Maybe my grandfather and I simply had similar taste. 也許我和阿公只是剛好有相似的口味。 Maybe our genes gave us some similar preferences. 也許我們的基因讓我們擁有一些相似的偏好。 Or maybe it is simply a beautiful coincidence. 又或者，這就只是一個很美好的巧合。 I do not know the exact answer. 我不知道真正的答案是什麼。 Because the interesting part is not whether a gene made me love taro rice cake. 因為真正有趣的地方，並不是某一個基因到底有沒有讓我喜歡芋粿巧。 The interesting part is that someone I never met seems to appear in my life through something so small. 真正有趣的是，一個我從來沒有見過的人，竟然會透過這麼微小的一件事情，出現在我的生命裡。 【今日單字】 gene 基因 Eye color is passed down through genes from parents.（眼睛的顏色是透過基因從父母遺傳下來的。） -- 真心聽學英文+中文+台語也可以 聽我亂聊講廢話暫時忘卻人生苦惱的也來   喜歡的話,記得訂閱、收聽、分享、留言~ 您的多多收聽及分享,會讓我更有動力陪你從外太空說到土地公~ #生活英文 #台語 #芋粿巧 #基因遺傳 #農曆七月祭祖 -- Hosting provided by SoundOn
