But herein lies a paradox of early dating: if we say too much too soon, if we too readily declare ourselves, if we show now what our last three partners knew by the end, we will be abandoned. Were we to tell them right now - in this pretty restaurant with candlelight and prints of Sicily and an interesting pear and almond tart for later - about the crisis at work, the illness we survived, the sort of sex we’re really interested in, our susceptibility to anxiety and the amount of time we have to spend on work trips and with our families of birth, they will run. How to Rewrite the 10 Commandments

The decline in belief in the Biblical 10 commandments doesn’t mean that all rules of conduct are necessarily superfluous. ART/ARCHITECTURE - Francisco Goya

Francisco Goya was both one of the greatest artists of his age - and manic depressive. His work has much to teach us about how to handle our fragility and anxiety. Enjoying our Youtube videos? Born into a middle-class family in 1746, in Fuendetodos in Aragon, he began painting young and was quickly recognised by his contemporaries for his genius. We acclaim him today for, among other works, his masterpieces, The Third of May 1808, his portrait of Charles IV and his family — as well as his series of unflinching prints, The Disasters of War. However, his most emotionally compelling work is a print he made in 1799, titled — hauntingly and evocatively — The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters…” MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Watch more films on ART and ARCHITECTURE in our playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwxNMb28Xmpcp7jXVszdNruKUtHZ2zuZb SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ X: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-school-of-life-for-business/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Gemma Hope Green https://www.gemmagreenhope.com/ Title animation produced in collaboration with Graeme Probert www.gpmotion.co.uk Learn more about your ad choices. The Genuine Source of Obsessive Thinking #ocd #theschooloflife #animation

We all are, at times, the victims of one of the cruellest and most remorseless of all mental afflictions: obsessive thinking. But why? FURTHER READING You can read more on this and other subjects here: https://9qq0.short.gy/m0b8dK “For some of us, today like every day, will mean another case of immersing ourselves, from the moment we wake up, in a by-now very familiar set of painful thoughts. We will dwell – once again – on how awful we look and more particularly, on how our nose is repulsively proportioned relative to the rest of our face. We will think – once again – of a website we inadvertently visited twelve years ago and how the police might be preparing to close in on, and arrest, us. We will think – once again – of how several of our neighbours (especially the people upstairs) might be colluding to ruin and disgrace us. Or we will think – once again – of something we said to a colleague which we fear they misconstrued and which may well lead them to seek disciplinary action against us at any moment…” MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Watch more films on SELF in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLself SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ X: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-school-of-life-for-business/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Natalia Biegaj https://nb-animation.com/ Title animation produced in collaboration with Graeme Probert www.gpmotion.co.uk Learn more about your ad choices. Here are a few things to keep in mind: Everyone fails sometimes; some people just hide it better than others. There is always a Plan B. Perfection was never on the cards. You’re allowed to cry uncontrollably sometimes. Some people will love you always - whatever. Those that matter don’t mind; those that mind don’t matter. You could always go and live on an island somewhere far away - truly. You have enough time to give this many more goes. A fear is not a fact. Every good life is a mess - in parts. 3 a.m. alone in bed is not the optimal moment at which to derive a true picture of reality. Wait - always - for the perspective of dawn. The only people we can think of as without regrets are those we don’t yet know very well. Going a bit mad for a time is a very common and ultimately very sane rite of passage. It sounds heartless to say: ‘you’ll get over it’. But you will. Most of what we think will kill us won’t.” MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Watch more films on SELF in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLself SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ X: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Drew Casson Title animation produced in collaboration with Vale Productions https://www.valeproductions.co.uk/ Music License FIQDMVI2CCEHXMAC Learn more about your ad choices. Why Only the Blissfully Single Find Genuine Love

Being satisfied with being single is a precondition of satisfactory coupledom. We cannot choose wisely when remaining single feels unbearable. We have to be utterly at peace with the prospect of many years of solitude in order to have any chance of forming a good relationship.
