Mom-ish After Dark

Katy Parson, Taylor Baumgardner, Gabriella Leonick

Welcome to Mom-ish After Dark — where we say the quiet parts out loud and the loud parts… even louder. We’re talking motherhood, marriage, friendships, and the kind of hospital chaos that leaves you questioning your career, your sanity, and your husband’s ability to load a dishwasher correctly. If you’ve ever fantasized about running away to Target alone, considered faking a mild illness for a break, or thought “there’s no way this is my life”… congratulations, you’re one of us. Grab a drink, hide from your responsibilities, and press play. We won’t judge. Parenting Hot Takes & Other Sh*t We Have Opinions About

Your kid asks for “porridge,” you realize you are the one responsible for the leaking sink, and suddenly you understand why adulthood feels like one long group project. We start with our usual weekly yap energy, gym attempts, breakfast hot takes, and the kind of mom hypocrisy we all live with, then slide straight into the chaos of homeownership, cleaning products, and DIY fixes that never stay simple. From there, the conversation turns into the parenting boundaries we care about most. We talk outdoor fears (snakes, river water you cannot see, and the stuff that lives where kids love to play), why we get intense about helmets on anything with wheels, and why youth football raises real concerns about concussions, brain health, and CTE. We also get honest about the modern parenting decisions nobody agrees on: pajamas at school, sleepovers, when a kid should get a phone, and how to handle social media without turning it into a free for all. Because we are nurses and moms, work shows up too. One of us shares a shift from hell that involves multiple body fluids in minutes, the scramble for replacement scrubs, and the never ending question of how “contaminated” you feel bringing hospital life back home. We round it out with money and growing up topics like teen cars, gas rules, allowance, saving for kids, student loans, and why school costs can feel like a slap in the face. Then, just to keep us humble, a toddler calls 911 on an Apple Watch. Child Locks Are a Scam

A toenail to the eyeball. Your baby sneezes straight onto your sweatshirt. Pizza stains on the “clean” backup shirt. That’s the kind of day that perfectly explains why we started talking into microphones about real motherhood. We’re Gabi, Katy, and Taylor, and we’re catching up the way busy moms actually do: fast, honest, and laughing because the alternative is crying. We get into the everyday pressure points that stack up: being tired no matter how early you go to bed, getting instantly overstimulated by noise, and navigating the tiny relationship irritations that somehow hit harder when you’re running on fumes. Then we zoom out to parenting across generations, comparing what our parents used to do with baby sleep and nursery setups versus today’s safety guidelines. If you’ve ever argued about socks, blankets, or a sleep sack, you’ll feel seen. The heart of the conversation is toddler chaos and childproofing reality. We talk counter climbers, kids cracking “unbreakable” locks, finding scissors and needles where they should never be, and the uniquely personal feeling of watching your expensive makeup or hair products get destroyed. We also share practical ideas like rotating toys and creating safer zones, plus a big reminder for any parent struggling: sometimes your kid is acting out at home because home is the safe place. We wrap with the stuff people don’t always say out loud on a parenting podcast: pumping struggles, the mental health cost of breastfeeding pressure, and the relief that can come from giving yourself permission to stop. Along the way there’s nostalgia (Jersey Shore, old trends, VHS dreams), adulting talk (cleaning hacks, back pain, baseboards), and the humor that keeps us all afloat. If this resonates, subscribe, share with a mom friend, and leave us a review. What’s the most unhinged thing your kid has gotten into lately? When TikTok Turns You Into A Juror: The Lindsay Clancy Case Through A Nurse And Mom Lens: Part 2

A case gets so big that it stops feeling like one family’s tragedy and starts feeling like a cultural fight. That’s where we are with the Lindsay Clancy trial, and in part two we slow down and sort through the pieces people keep arguing about: the meaning of her confession, what the timeline actually suggests, and why “she seemed fine” is not the slam dunk some think it is. We talk through Patrick Clancy’s role as the closest witness to her mental decline, including what it means when a spouse hears insomnia, suicidal thoughts, and thoughts of harm and still has to make real-life decisions about work, childcare, and trusting the medical system. As nurses and moms, we bring a healthcare lens to intrusive thoughts versus urgent risk, postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety, and how postpartum psychosis can distort reality while someone still appears “functional” on the surface. We also unpack a detail that keeps sticking with us: testimony that she seemed to have one of her best days right before everything happened, and why that can cut in more than one direction. Then we step into the messier layer: the internet’s parallel trial. We address the viral TikTok conspiracies pointing at Patrick, the discomfort people feel believing a mother could kill her children, and the bigger question underneath it all: did a confession make investigators stop asking the hard forensic questions too soon? We do not claim a verdict, but we do name the systems that can fail families before a crisis and fail the public after one. If you’re following this case, listen, share with a friend who’s stuck on the premeditation vs postpartum psychosis question, and subscribe so you don’t miss our follow-up. After you listen, what do you think the justice system gets wrong when mental illness is central to the story? 🖤 Mental Health Crisis Resources If you or someone you love is experiencing postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, postpartum psychosis, suicidal thoughts, frightening thoughts, severe confusion, paranoia, hallucinations, or feels unsafe, please seek help immediately. When TikTok Turns You Into A Juror: The Lindsay Clancy Case Through A Nurse And Mom Lens: Part 1

A mother can be drowning in postpartum depression or postpartum anxiety and still look put together enough to fool almost everyone, including clinicians. That’s the uncomfortable starting point for our conversation as three nurse-moms who can’t stop thinking about the Lindsay Clancy case and what it exposes about maternal mental health in the United States. We walk through the broad facts people are discussing publicly and why the legal fight centers on mental state rather than simply “did it happen.” From there, we zoom in on the clinical reality: how extreme insomnia and postpartum hormone shifts can push someone toward confusion, mania, paranoia, delusions, and a true break from reality. We also talk about postpartum psychosis as it actually presents, not the movie version, and why “she seemed normal” is not a safety check. Then we get specific about system failures that show up again and again in postpartum care: rushed follow-ups, fear-based silence from moms who worry they’ll be punished for honesty, and the chaos of trying multiple medications. We discuss poly-pharmacy concerns, SSRIs and sleep meds, and how documentation and referrals become make-or-break when a case hits the courtroom. Most of all, we ask what partners, providers, and communities should do when a mom is clearly raising her hand for help. This is part one of a two-part series. If you’ve ever felt postpartum rage, panic, numbness, or scary thoughts, you are not alone, and you deserve real care. Subscribe, share this with a parent or clinician, and leave a review with what you think postpartum support should include. 🖤 Mental Health Crisis Resources If you or someone you love is experiencing postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, postpartum psychosis, suicidal thoughts, frightening thoughts, severe confusion, paranoia, hallucinations, or feels unsafe, please seek help immediately. From Itchy Nipples To Parking Lot Drama

We bounce from body changes and weird postpartum symptoms to the everyday chaos that tests our patience as moms. We laugh through the mess, then get real about routines, self-care, and the guilt that shows up the second we try to put ourselves first. • postpartum boobs, pasties, and the reality of “freeing the nipple” • itchy nipples, hormones, and the petroleum jelly cure-all debate • rain, weather talk, and the neighbor sprinkler outrage • the body armor bottle hydration theory and microplastics paranoia • one-year doctor appointments, shots, and big sibling empathy • parking lot conflict while buckling kids into car seats • social anxiety at kid birthday parties and mom groups • mom Facebook group posts that feel like rage bait • the end of an era with the old Nissan and reckless driving lore • postpartum routine struggles, gym consistency, and grieving your old self • childcare gyms, play cafes, and building a morning-person life If this felt a little too real, you’re our people. Subscribe for more, share this with a mom who needs the laugh, and leave a review telling us your best “I kept my cool” moment. What if You Can Feel Everything All At Once?

Someone can be turning one, the house can be covered in party prep, and you can still feel like you’re running on fumes. We’re talking about that exact tension: loving your kids hard while also feeling overstimulated, maxed out, and weirdly emotional about how fast the first year flies by. From explosive toddler chaos to the mental math of managing two schedules, we keep it honest about what motherhood actually feels like on an average “we’re fine” day. We get real about postpartum, especially the version that doesn’t hit right away. Sometimes it shows up months later when you start to feel like yourself again, but your body, hormones, sleep, and routine still don’t match. We talk breastfeeding overstimulation, hot flashes, losing gym time, and why the first year can feel like constant change. If postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, or just plain burnout has ever made you question yourself, you’ll hear your thoughts out loud here. Because we work in healthcare, we also zoom out. Nursing and pediatrics can humble you fast, and it changes how you see parenting, family dynamics, and health. We swap stories, laugh at the awkward moments, and vent about nursing school culture and workplace favoritism, all while circling back to the same point: you’re not failing, you’re living a lot at once. If you like candid mom life conversations with dark humor, real marriage and intimacy talk, and zero perfection, hit subscribe, share this with a friend who needs a laugh, and leave a review so more moms can find us. Stomach Bugs, Dog Chaos, and Rage Baiting Men

Something about parenting turns the smallest moment into a full-blown story. We start with the kind of weekend a lot of families know too well: a stomach bug making the rounds, germs everywhere, and the oddly specific chaos of trying to keep one kid healthy while someone else is violently sick. From there, we get into everyday “mom confessions” like pet food theft, high chair messes, and the travel-with-a-baby reality nobody can truly prep you for including the hard lesson that swim diapers do what they do and absolutely do not do what you wish they did. Then we take a sharp left into pop culture, because sometimes a documentary or podcast grabs your brain and won’t let go. We talk about the Love Trapped podcast and how manipulation, false claims, and court drama can leave you furious in your car. We also dig into Netflix’s Maternal Instinct and the terrifying truth behind fetal abduction, plus what it’s like to realize a “rare” crime is still very real. It’s messy, emotional, and the kind of conversation that makes you want to text every friend you have. Work stress ties it all together. We unpack on-call anxiety, night shift burnout, and the way overstimulation follows you home when you’re a nurse and a parent. We also get honest about mom guilt, postpartum body changes, and why confidence can weirdly grow in your 30s even when life feels louder than ever. Long Poops, Lawn Mowing & Dad Feelings

Father’s Day felt like the perfect excuse to hand the microphones to the dads in our lives, and they did not hold back. We sit down with Adam, Dylan, and Gil for a raw, funny, and unexpectedly emotional talk about modern fatherhood, starting with the exact moment each of them realized, “Oh, I’m actually going to be a dad.” It’s the kind of parenting conversation that sounds like your group chat, but hits like real life when the jokes fade for a second. We get into the dad version of mom guilt: staying late at work when you know you could be home, sleeping in when your partner is already up, even asking permission to take a shower because you hate feeling like you’re tapping out. From there we talk about what we hope our kids remember most: being present, being steady, and being the parent they can come to whether they’re proud of themselves or scared to admit they messed up. If you care about millennial dads, hands-on parenting, and building a family culture where kids feel safe, this one lands. Then we go deeper on girl dad vs boy dad expectations and what it means to raise resilient kids without teaching them to bury everything. We talk toughness, vulnerability, and why “the days are long but the years are short” isn’t just a quote, it’s a warning not to blink. You’ll also hear the real stuff couples deal with after kids: pet peeves, morning stress, household habits, and the tiny fights that aren’t about the kids, but definitely affect the home. If you laughed, related, or felt seen, subscribe, share this with a parent friend, and leave a review so more moms and dads can find Momish. What’s one piece of advice you’d give a new dad today?
