Married on February 10th in 2024, Shannon and Sam put on a gorgeous four-day wedding to enjoy with their closest family and friends.     EPWS | 14. Marva & Michael

    Welcome to another Wedding Story Wednesday! This week, you're invited to the wedding of Marva & Michael, which took place in September of 2022 at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club, in Corona Del Mar, California. While not a sailing couple, Michael and Marva used a lot of nautical and timeless vibes for their semiformal, classic wedding. While they tried to keep the guest list down, it kept growing and growing until the couple was looking at 180 guests. They sent paper invitations to their guests from the States, and digital ones to those overseas. Keep an ear out for how their guest list expanded as relatives invited relatives, and how the couple gracefully handled it. This couple chose not to have a wedding party and found that it streamlined the focus on the day of the wedding, especially when it came to getting ready. With a day-of coordinator, Karen Kupke, absolutely nailing the assignment, the couple felt they were in great hands as they arrived to enjoy their big day. The couple participated in a zaffa, with drummers and flutes playing as they danced into the wedding reception. It often symbolizes the bride leaving her home and joining the groom’s home. After toasts, dinner, dancing, and a cake cutting, the couple brought out belly dancers to entertain the guests who stayed late into the night.     EPWS | 13. Coleta & Daniel

    Welcome back to Wedding Story Wednesday! This week on Emily Post Wedding Stories, you're invited to the wedding of Coleta and Daniel, which took place on July 6, 2024, in Crathorne Hall, Yarm, England.Coleta, who is Romanian, and Daniel, who is English, had a beautiful country-estate wedding, hosting about 90 of their closest friends and family in Yarm, England. The couple had a very thoughtful process for their guest list and invitations, which were in both Romanian and British styles. The ceremony involved both of their families, with many members doing readings in both Romanian and English. Their vows followed the classic Church of England style. In a break from tradition, the bride wore blue for her ball gown wedding dress. At the reception, guests enjoyed a three-course meal, with extra “mash” and extra “roasties” on hand just in case anyone needed a little more to eat. Champagne, wine, Pimms cocktails, and a non-alcoholic Elderflower Fizz were available for guests to enjoy throughout the reception. Keep an ear out for their funny cake-cutting faux pas! Their formal wedding reception ended up with a casual twist with that day's England-Switzerland football match playing on TV. The match spurred everyone onto the dance floor in celebration after England won!     EPWS | 12. Emily & Chris

    It's Wedding Story Wednesday! On this week's episode of Emily Post Wedding Stories, you're invited to the wedding of Emily and Chris, which took place in March of 2013 on the island of St. Lucia. Emily and Chris’ wedding on St. Lucia at the Villa Beach Cottages was not only affordable, but was filled with family, friends, and lots of local love. The couple had visited the island a year prior and were able to book so many of their vendors through exploring the island. Their cab driver’s sister had a restaurant that they ended up using for the catering, which provided chicken curry and lots of fresh fish, fruit, and vegetables. They found their ceremony music, a steel drum band, while they were walking on the beach. And the reception band was found as they were walking down the street, and they heard an incredibly funky version of “Me and Mrs. Jones”. Flip-flops and Hawaiian shirts, sundresses and a few linen suits were the attire vibes for this beachy island wedding. The couple and their guests danced the night away to their favorite oldies. To accommodate friends who couldn’t make it to St. Lucia, Emily and Chris held a second open-house reception stateside at Emily’s mother’s house a month and a half later.     EPWS | 11. Allison & Bryce

    It's Wedding Story Wednesday! This week on Emily Post Wedding Stories, you're invited to the wedding of Allison and Bryce, which took place on September 23, 2023, in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Allison and Bryce’s beautiful, detailed Catholic ceremony was followed by a big wedding reception at the Ingleside Hotel in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. They had to accommodate a huge family guest list - Allison has 40 first cousins alone! With about 60% of their guests saying yes to the invitation, there were still 180 guests! They followed local customs of the groom’s side hosting the rehearsal dinner and the cocktail hour and the bride’s side hosting the wedding reception. Speaking of the reception, the couple had an artist create a live painting of it, which turned out beautifully and fully captured their wedding day. Their first dance was a memorable moment for both, and the couple really enjoyed their sweetheart table, saying it allowed them to relax together and watch their guests enjoy the reception.     EPWS | 10. Catherine & Brad

    It's Wedding Story Wednesday! This week on Emily Post Wedding Stories, you're invited to the wedding of Catherine and Brad, which took place on August 28, 2021, at Rural Hill in Huntersville, North Carolina. This couple had a great balance and understanding of how the planning would unfold between them, with Catherine focused on the details - she had a 151-point spreadsheet that she worked from to manage it all! The couple battled multiple postponements as they tried to plan amid the vaccination availability and quarantines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pineapples were a theme element, and the groomsmen did a great job setting up the table decorations while the bridesmaids helped the bride get ready for the day, and after the first looks took place, the couple was ready to head down the aisle to be married under a stunning arch that Catherine’s brother built. Catherine wore a beautiful bridal veil that has been worn by 9 of her family members - it happened to match her dress perfectly!     EPWS | 9. Meghan & Marc

    It’s Wedding Story Wednesday! On this week’s episode of Emily Post Wedding Stories, you’re invited to the wedding of Meghan and Marc, which took place on September 9th, 2018, in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Meghan and Marc knew from the get-go that they wanted a small, local wedding. And they certainly achieved it. Their Wednesday wedding was attended by their parents and grandparents, and Marc’s brother, with everyone joining the happy couple for a lobster-boil rehearsal dinner with whoopie pies for dessert the night before, a gift from Marc’s mom and stepdad, and a small but traditional ceremony the following day. For a small wedding, the couple was able to hit lots of traditional marks, from Meghan being walked down the aisle by her dad, to traditional vows, and a reception afterward that even included a first dance. Meghan and Marc were one of the couples I interviewed for research for our upcoming book Emily Post’s Wedding Etiquette, out in February of 2027.     EPWS | 8. Hester & Khanh

    It’s Wedding Story Wednesday! On this episode of Emily Post Wedding Stories, you’re invited to the wedding of Hester and Khanh, who got married at the State Botanical Gardens in Athens, Georgia, in June of 2007. Hester and Khanh (whom Hester calls Kano) met online in the early 2000s, and it was love immediately - her brother knew they would get married after he heard about their first date! They entered a lottery to secure a wedding date and time at the Athens Botanical Gardens, where organizers literally drew names out of a hat. The rest of their planning was pretty smooth, because Hester knew a lot of the vendors they hired and leaned heavily on their expertise. Khanh describes it as, “I pushed the easy button.” Their 120 guests celebrated in cocktail attire with Lee Epting Catering (now Epting Events), and Cecilia Vasques (Cecilia’s Cake Shop) made the gluten-free top layer for the cake so Hester could enjoy it. The couple offered Southern pralines as wedding favors, and guests left their good wishes and marriage advice for the couple in a wish tree guestbook. The wedding party was dressed in black tie, with the bride wearing a 1950s Dior-inspired one-shoulder gown designed by a local Athens, Georgia designer. The bride’s brother walked her down the aisle. Hester and Khanh were one of the couples I interviewed for our upcoming book Emily Post’s Wedding Etiquette, out in February of 2027.
