    EPWS | 9. Meghan & Marc

    It’s Wedding Story Wednesday! On this week’s episode of Emily Post Wedding Stories, you’re invited to the wedding of Meghan and Marc, which took place on September 9th, 2018, in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Meghan and Marc knew from the get-go that they wanted a small, local wedding. And they certainly achieved it. Their Wednesday wedding was attended by their parents and grandparents, and Marc’s brother, with everyone joining the happy couple for a lobster-boil rehearsal dinner with whoopie pies for dessert the night before, a gift from Marc’s mom and stepdad, and a small but traditional ceremony the following day. For a small wedding, the couple was able to hit lots of traditional marks, from Meghan being walked down the aisle by her dad, to traditional vows, and a reception afterward that even included a first dance. Meghan and Marc were one of the couples I interviewed for research for our upcoming book Emily Post’s Wedding Etiquette, out in February of 2027.     EPWS | 8. Hester & Khanh

    It’s Wedding Story Wednesday! On this episode of Emily Post Wedding Stories, you’re invited to the wedding of Hester and Khanh, who got married at the State Botanical Gardens in Athens, Georgia, in June of 2007. Hester and Khanh (whom Hester calls Kano) met online in the early 2000s, and it was love immediately - her brother knew they would get married after he heard about their first date! They entered a lottery to secure a wedding date and time at the Athens Botanical Gardens, where organizers literally drew names out of a hat. The rest of their planning was pretty smooth, because Hester knew a lot of the vendors they hired and leaned heavily on their expertise. Khanh describes it as, “I pushed the easy button.” Their 120 guests celebrated in cocktail attire with Lee Epting Catering (now Epting Events), and Cecilia Vasques (Cecilia’s Cake Shop) made the gluten-free top layer for the cake so Hester could enjoy it. The couple offered Southern pralines as wedding favors, and guests left their good wishes and marriage advice for the couple in a wish tree guestbook. The wedding party was dressed in black tie, with the bride wearing a 1950s Dior-inspired one-shoulder gown designed by a local Athens, Georgia designer. The bride’s brother walked her down the aisle. Hester and Khanh were one of the couples I interviewed for our upcoming book Emily Post’s Wedding Etiquette, out in February of 2027.     It’s Wedding Story Wednesday! On this episode of Emily Post Wedding Stories, you’re invited to the wedding of Michael and Mark, who hosted a cozy wedding in November 2023 in Aurora, NY. Michael and Mark, who don’t love being the center of attention, hosted 42 guests in Aurora, New York. The practical duo spent lots of time on the details that mattered to them, primarily the decorations, music, and menu, and they managed to get through wedding planning with only a few vendors - a miracle by today’s standards. Their evergreen decor and navy-and-silver color palette were all their own doing and perfectly fit their simple yet stunning wedding reception. As seasoned dinner party hosts, these two knew that what would matter most would be spending time with their guests. Michael and Mark were one of the couples I interviewed for our upcoming book Emily Post’s Wedding Etiquette, out in February of 2027.     EPWS | 6. Alayna & Russell

    It’s Wedding Story Wednesday! On this episode of Emily Post Wedding Stories, you’re invited to the wedding of Alayna and Russell, whose casual Vermont wedding was held on June 22, 2024, in Hinesburg, Vermont.  After a catholic ceremony at the Catholic Center at the University of Vermont in Burlington, the couple and their guests headed to the groom’s parents’ house in Hinesburg for a backyard reception at a sugar shack. There they dined on tacos and ice cream cones. A handmade (by Russell!) paddleboard served as the bar, and a huge grazing table was set up for guests to enjoy.  Alayna describes their reception as a choose-your-own-adventure wedding. Between the two barns, sugar shack, fire pit, and house, there were plenty of places for guests to gather in large or small groups. Or if they wanted to participate in the ax-throwing station brought in for entertainment, they could have…or hack…at it! (There were lots of child-appropriate lawn games as well.)  Guests danced the night away to the tunes of a local band’s country and classic rock jams.  Alayna and Russell were one of the research interviews I did for our upcoming book Emily Post’s Wedding Etiquette, out in February of 2027.     EPWS | 5. Sinclaire & Maximilian

    It’s Wedding Story Wednesday! On this episode of Emily Post Wedding Stories, you’re invited to the wedding of Sinclaire and Maximilian, who hosted a truly international wedding on Sep 5, 2021, in the south of France. Sinclaire, a native New York City girl, and Max, who is from Germany but has lived all over the world, got legally married in New York City in late 2019. They then hosted a black-tie wedding in late September 2021 for their friends and family (and a taxidermied sheep, named Earl!) Their location was a fabulous villa in the south of France (which made an appearance in Netflix’s Emily in Paris!) Together, they hosted about 90 guests from 13 different nationalities for the week, and there were enough pre-wedding events that the guests were able to get to know each other before the big day. Their reception featured a 6-course formal meal, all at one long table with antique chairs.     EPWS | 4. Allison & Paul

    It’s Wedding Story Wednesday! On this episode of Emily Post Wedding Stories, you’re invited to the wedding of Allison and Paul who were married on August 19, 2022, at the Canoe Club Ballroom, West Bridgewater, Massachusetts. At Allison and Paul’s wedding, they wanted their guests to feel as though they’d stepped onto an old movie set. Their officiant was a local WGBH radio NPR host and friend, and Allison, a dancer, led not only the groom in their first dance but also joined local swing dance professionals to lead the rest of the guests in a swinging good time as they all danced the night away! Self-described nerdy details were a huge part of the planning, with comic books in the centerpieces and Paul’s Dune-inspired signature drink. Keep an ear out at about 30 minutes in when Allison reads from her list of “lessons learned” from wedding planning, which is a gold mine of great advice! Allison and Paul were among the couples I interviewed for our upcoming book, Emily Post’s Wedding Etiquette, out in February of 2027.     It's Wedding Story Wednesday! On this episode of Emily Post Wedding Stories, you’re invited to the wedding of Andy and Nick, whose November 2017 wedding was a party for the ages at the Orlando Science Center in Orlando, Florida.  Andy and Nick wanted to march to the beat of their own drum for their wedding. When speaking about the plan, they said, “We’re throwing a party and getting married in the middle of it!” The fourth floor of the Orlando Science Center was theirs for the evening, alongside 149 guests and several science exhibits to explore. Andy and Nick’s interview was part of the research I did for our upcoming book, Emily Post’s Wedding Etiquette, coming out in February of 2027.
