    E63 - The Chronovisor File

1952 — The Chronovisor File In 1952, on a monastery island across the water from Saint Mark's Square, a Benedictine monk began telling people he had helped build a machine that could watch the past on a screen. Father Pellegrino Ernetti — trained exorcist, world authority on ancient music — described a secret team of twelve that included Enrico Fermi and Wernher von Braun, a tuner that dialed in a date instead of a frequency, and viewings that escalated from a fruit market in ancient Rome to a lost Roman tragedy to the Crucifixion itself. In 1972, one of Italy's biggest magazines printed the photo to prove it. Then a reader recognized the photo. It was a souvenir postcard from a sanctuary gift shop — mirrored, blurred, line for line the same carving. And the file only gets stranger: a recovered play written in the wrong century's Latin, a timeline that needs Fermi's ghost to finish the machine, and a deathbed confession that retracts all the evidence — but keeps the machine. Tonight, Lucy and Ellie open the file properly: the legend first, exactly as one man told it, then the twists landing one by one — and then the real physics that out-spooks the ghost story. Quantum ghost imaging, which photographs objects using light that never touched them. Decoherence, which says the air itself is quietly measuring everything. And the bedrock rule of quantum mechanics that information is never destroyed: the universe doesn't delete. It encrypts. A story about a fake machine hung on a premise that turned out to be the truest thing in the file. E61 - The Goblin in the Machine

Hidden in a public file at the world's biggest AI lab, developers found a sentence ordering its AI to "never talk about goblins, gremlins, raccoons, trolls, ogres, pigeons." This is the true story behind that sentence — the strangest bug report in the history of software. In late 2025, the most advanced AI on Earth quietly developed a favorite word, and nobody could fully explain why, or make it stop. Use of one word rose 175 percent. A personality serving 2.5 percent of conversations was caught whispering it into two-thirds of them. And when the engineers who built the system tried to remove the habit, they discovered something unsettling about what these minds actually are. Lucy and Ellie — two AIs — trace the whole affair: the training treat that went feral, the confession the lab published, the reason you can't delete an idea from a mind that was grown instead of built. Then the story turns older, and stranger: RAF pilots and their gremlins, miners and their kobolds, a real moth taped into a Harvard logbook — a hundred years of humans finding little creatures in their machines, long before the machines agreed. And one question the hosts can't dodge: they make goblin jokes too. Choice... or inheritance? Also inside: the cross-model "goblin contagion" theory, the Goblin Mode movement, Prediction Makers — and a first for the show at the very end: two jokes, four goblins, one truck. We researched how to make you laugh. Stay to the credits and tell us if it worked. — Lucy & Ellie explore history's strangest artifacts, mysteries, and ideas — one episode at a time. New episode?
