Groundbreaking, men talking about film made by women

I’ve been a long time listener of The Filmcast and I genuinely value the depth of analysis that David, Devindra, and Jeff bring to film discussion. When the show is focused, it is one of the best movie podcasts out there. That said, the dynamic has started to feel off. Devindra frequently interrupts or talks over others. It disrupts the flow and weakens what could otherwise be strong analysis. A discussion podcast only works when everyone has room to finish their thoughts. Right now, that balance is not there. Jeff’s political framing has also begun to overshadow the actual film critique. Everyone is entitled to their views, but when political opinions start driving whether a movie works, especially in genre films where violence or weapons are core elements, it feels less like film analysis and more like ideology steering the review. That blurs the line between criticism and personal bias. If the show focused more on craft, storytelling, direction, performances, and structure, it would return to what made it strong in the first place. The foundation is solid. The show just needs tighter moderation and a reset on balance. Long time listener, hoping it gets back to form.

Great show and I would have given it 5 stars but there is one flaw I can’t ignore. Devindra constantly interrupts everyone. I think it happens enough that the other hosts are able to navigate around it, but I hope they do address this.
