May her memory be a blessing

Marc,

I have been listening to this podcast starting around 2011. I have seen you live and you even acknowledged a positive tweet I made after attending. I am the opposite of a celebrity worshiper. I don’t give a sh** who you are or what you do. I would not walk across the street to shake a hand of someone just because they are “famous.” So why this note of trying to provide comfort to you? It is a small and humble gesture of thanks. As an anxiety-ridden, neurotic Ashkenazi Jew that struggled professionally for a long time, you connected with me. You speak to me, and provide me more than entertainment. You have given me strength and hope in this world. For example, after my divorce I was afraid of dying alone. But you made me realize how great it will be to have a Jamaican women rubbing my head on my death bed saying, “It’s ok baby, it’s ok.”

In return, I share these words of comfort. Please do not be afraid to be sad and to mourn. It is a gift that comes with loosing someone you care very much about. It demonstrates just how powerful the relationship was between the two of you. As time passes, the pain will dull and come less frequently. At the same, it will never totally go away. When it comes, always embraces it and look at it as a gift.
