    JFS122: Pi (1998)

You love math, right? We presume that you do, and that's precisely why we're reviewing Darren Aronofsky's debut feature Pi, from 1998. That's Pi, like the number (not PI, like the detective, nor pie, like the dessert). But don't worry, even if you hate math, the movie's got plenty of self-mutilation and phantom traincars. But before that! Parker and Sean break down the release calendar and chat about every single movie coming out in theaters in July of 2026. So #DonloydNow and enjoy this bite-sized Junk Food Supper. We got all this plus Twin Peaks jokes, residual smoke damage, rooting for a full-on Blade Runner situation (atmospherically), proximity to sea lions, an in-depth exploration of the direct-to-cruise-ship film sales marketplace, shout out Barone's Pizza (Valley Glen), points on the backend, occasional World Cup fireworks in the distant background, don't droppy that floppy (diskettes), semi-checked nosedrips, crocodile tears, blank stares, squeeky chairs, phantom gleeks and so much more!! Recorded live-to-tape from a surreal cliff-top on World Cup Day Umpteen, 2026~! Direct Donloyd Here Got a movie suggestion for the show, or better yet an opinion on next week's movies? JFD700: The Conversation, The Farmer, Cannonball Run

Junk Food Dinner is back... for the 700th time! That's right, this month JFD celebrates it's milestone 700th episode! And what better way to commemorate 700 episodes than with three movies from the 1970's? Alright, two movies from the 70's and one move from the early 80's but feels decidedly 70's.  Up first, Francis Ford Coppola directs Gene Hackman as a surveillance specialist who gets caught up in the intrigue of the couple he's spying on in 1974's The Conversation, with appearances from Harrison Ford, Frederic Forrest, Cindy Williams and Teri Garr. Next, a decorated WWII solider comes home to his struggling family farm, but soon gets entangled in a revenge plot at the behest of a wealthy gambler in The Farmer from 1977.  And finally, a colorful cast of celebrities, including Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Farrah Fawcett, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Adrienne Barbeau and Jackie Chan (among many others) compete in a cross-country road race where wacky hijinks ensue in Hal Needham's Cannonball Run from 1981. All this plus Sean gets smoked out, news about The Devils returning to theaters uncut this year, R.I.P Damon Zex, tips for buying weed at Subway, a new What We Do in the Shadows movie in the works, A24 goes A.I. and so much more! JFS121: Black Jack: The Visitor in the Eye (1977)

It's time for us return to the ol' Nobuhiko Obayashi well, with, well - another Nobuhiko Obayashi movie! This time, we're reviewing the manga-based flick BLACK JACK: THE VISITOR IN THE EYE, from 1977. It's that classic tale of a girl losing an eyeball in a tennis match and ending up with a haunted eyeball in its place. You know, one of those classic tales. Also a love story! Plus: we rank and review the past ten flicks we've discussed on the show! So #DonloydNow and enjoy this bite-sized Junk Food Supper. We got all this plus massive warehouse fires in Boyle Heights California and their impact on local podcasters, great jokes on discord going unresponded to, a Thriller-based tour of the east side of Los Angeles, a serious and tender aside about mortality from a normally unserious podcast, 1990's DC comics story arcs (referenced only), baseball chats, toppin' off gas tanks, semi-heated opinions on Backrooms, an understanding of basic math (demonstrated), a brand-new approach to banking voicemail submissions ahead of schedule, unchecked nosedrips, crocodile tears, blank stares, squeeky chairs, phantom gleeks and so much more!! Recorded live-to-tape from a surreal cliff-top on Boyle Heights Warehouse Fire Day, 2026~! Direct Donloyd Here Got a movie suggestion for the show, or better yet an opinion on next week's movies? JFD699: Hot Times (AKA A Hard Day For Archie), Lake of Illusions, Josie and the Pussycats

JFD returns just in time to spoil your Memorial Day weekend with a trio of cult flicks, two loosely connected to the world of Archie Comics and one that is decidedly not. Up first, is Hot Times (AKA A Hard Day For Archie), a raunchy sex comedy from 1974 with characters roughly modeled after Archie and his gang but instead of Riverdale, they live in grimy 70's New York City. Directed by celebrated underground director Jim McBride, the plot (as it is) follows Archie as he tried to get laid on New Year's Eve. Next, we have the sprawling, methodical Lake of Illusions from 1982. A Toho release about a young woman working in a history-themed bath house who loves to run and loves her dog but finds her world turned upside down when he canine companion is killed. And finally, early 2000's pop culture is on full display in Josie and the Pussycats from 2001 starring Rachel Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson and Tara Reid as a pop-punk band who finds themselves in the middle of a capitalist conspiracy when they are inexplicably signed to a major label and marketed as the next big thing. All this plus Obsession chat, Kevin's adventures in the Motor City, 70's Brazilian cult cinema debuting stateside, Sam Raimi gets into dolls, more flicks from Indonesian horror icon Suzanna to own and so much more!
