The ambitious plan to resurrect the animals we can’t save

The ambitious plan to resurrect the animals we can’t save

Coming up today… we dig deep into the biometric surveillance tech boom and Natasha has a fun day out at a farm.
This week James and Matt B ask whether we should ban biometric surveillance? Improvements in artificial intelligence mean it’s possible to analyse and identify people by their walk, their veins, their face, their fingers and even the shape of their ears. As a result, the biometrics industry is booming – it’s expected to grow to between $60 billion and $80bn in the coming years. However, the technology has a creepy side: it’s being used to group people by ethnicity, gender and try to predict their emotions.
    Read more: https://www.wired.co.uk/article/europe-ai-biometrics
For our second story, Vicki and Natasha look at the effort to build the biggest biobank of animal cells in Europe. Nature’s SAFE aims to collect 50 million genetic samples and "freeze them in time", storing cells from critically endangered species including the Amur leopard, black rhino and mountain chicken frog in cryogenic tanks. The idea is to harvest and preserve samples of semen – as well as ova and other tissue – that could one day be used to regenerate dwindling animal populations and prevent them from going extinct.

Can’t Stop Listening!

I absolutely adore this podcast. Not only do I enjoy the journalism, the topics, the discussion, the though provoking probes, etc., but I have also become emotionally invested in the cast members. I sincerely enjoy tuning in to hear more of their interpersonal banter, witty quips and each of their individual view points shared in an intellectual, yet consistently humorous fashion.
So glad I stumbled upon this podcast. Thank you for producing!

The from demise of the cinema industry

OMG! This episode was the most boring of the WIRED UK'S podcasts...EVER! All the hosts sounded like they didn't want to be there. Take some tips from your American cousins and liven it up a bit...or a lot!

Provides wrong information

I was excited to start listening to this podcast. Now when I heard an episode on vitamin D it made me doubt the content that Wired writes/talks about and now im too sceptical to follow the Wired on any platform in fear they actually provide guesses not facts. I am a clinical professional and when I heard them repeatedly say that vitamin D can be obtained from leafy greens especially spinach I was shocked about their lack of knowledge. Went to check an article by them about the same topic and yep there it was again. Could not find any contact information to ask them directly so the only way to raise awareness was through here
