Sizeable Storms, Great Guests and a Stifled Snapper Season | OS 1448

Capt. Kevin and Jeff headed out of dodge this week, as Hurricane Isaias hit the panhandle. Capt. Kirk helmed the studio to talk about it, and he welcomed in a couple great guest co-hosts: Capt. Dennis Young and Brian Dufek from Shimano! Even though the weather hasn’t been cooperating – especially for “snapper season” – there was plenty of fishing talk to be talked, plenty of tips to be tipped, and plenty of stories to be shared! Jeff did join the show – from England – via the wonders of modern technology, so he chimed in on it all for the first hour, and Capt. Kevin pulled himself away from his OSR in Kentucky to do the GemLux Trivia Question, too! Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: We’re discussing venting tools with the snapper season opening! You can find a great selection, including the Diamond Fish Saver and Ohero’s Vent for Life, at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville. Here’s your Ring Power Cat tip of the week: SAVE THE DATE for Saturday, November 14th from 6am-Noon. Registration opens this coming Wednesday for our live remote at the Hagan Ace Hardware Holiday Kickoff! Along with thousands $$ in vendor giveaways and swag (80+ vendors this year including cooking teams) Hagan Ace is giving one lucky winner a $10,000 GRAND PRIZE shopping spree to the store! You’ll be able to enter to win up until the store closes that evening. Visit haganace.com to register, see all event details on how to enter to win and the hot deals and vendor swag & prizes this Wednesday! Here’s your KirbyCo Builders’ Cooking Tip of the Week: It’s a soup kinda weekend, so click HERE to check out Capt. Kirk’s She Crab Bisque/Soup recipe. Facebook

30 Years of the Outdoors Show! | OS 1447

You read that right – this thing started back in 1996, and it’s been a wild ride!  Broadcasting live from Strike Zone Fishing, the boys got together with the OS Family to reflect on three decades of the Outdoors Show. The Outdoors Show has lived through 6 different presidencies and watched gas go from $1.25 a gallon to…well, let’s not talk about that. The guys have seen the outdoor lifestyle go high-tech, with cellular trail cams, thermal imaging, side-scan sonar, GPS-enabled trolling motors and complete technical overhauls of the stuff they’ve always relied on. They’ve seen A LOT of change. But during this episode, there was plenty that hasn’t changed – and it’s a huge statement about what makes the Outdoors Show what it’s always been. The good people, the good stories and the good times.  Today, all of us celebrated what’s good in the outdoors and what’s good about the Outdoors Show and the Outdoors Show Family. From all of us to all of you, thank you for 30 great years! Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: Visit Strike Zone and find out about the special 30th Anniversary special deals they have in honor of the Outdoors Show! Here’s your Ring Power Cat tip of the week: The Outdoors Show is celebrating 30 years on the air TODAY! Join Capt. Kevin Faver, Capt. Kirk Waltz and Jeff Lageman at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville this morning for a special live remote celebrating three decades of fishing, hunting, friendship and unforgettable stories! Come by, meet the guys and help us celebrate The Outdoors Show’s 30th anniversary! Here’s Your KirbyCo Builders’ Cooking Tip of the Week: Click HERE for Tera’s Sourdough Discard Cornbread recipe! It’s OFFICIALLY a Great Day for the Outdoors | OS 1446

The guys made their way to the studio for this episode reveling about the weather. As Jeff put it – it was one of the best mornings EVER. EV-VER! And what a great day to have great weather – 9/26 is National Hunting & Fishing Day! It’s a time to recognize generations of sportsmen and women for their contributions to the conservation of our nation’s rich sporting heritage and natural resources (okay, that’s what the official website says…). For the boys, it’s time to raise a glass to everyone who hunts, shoots and fishes! Click HERE to visit the website and learn more. Lots of good news about the fishing and shrimping, but it wasn’t all good news. First Coast anglers finally got their expanded snapper season…but boy, the regs have made it a hot mess. Capt. Chad Starling called in to sort it out. You need to listen, but you may also want to have a piece of paper, a sharp pencil and a calculator handy. Good grief… Now when the temperature starts to fall, the guys look at the calendar. And today, the fact this this was their final September show, they couldn’t help but start talking about hunting. Lots of chatter about feeders, baiting and all the stuff that pulls them in. This show was in the middle of a Harvest Moon, which led to a few stories about how bright that moon can get when you’re in the woods. Well, that brought up jacklighting, which brought up all things jack: jackwagons, jackrabbits, jacka$$es, jack squat, and the ultimate question: what’s the deal with the word “jack”? Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: The shrimp are running! Go see the helpful folks at Hagan Ace of Green Cove, Mandarin, East Palatka and Orange park for pellets, meal, nets, buckets and more. Visit their website to window shop before you go! Here’s your Ring Power Cat tip of the week: The Outdoors Show is celebrating 30 years on the air! Join Capt. Kevin Faver, Capt. Kirk Waltz and Jeff Lageman at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville on Saturday, October 3, for a special live remote celebrating three decades of fishing, hunting, friendship and unforgettable stories! Come by, meet the guys and help the entire OS Family celebrate The Outdoors Show’s 30th anniversary! Here’s your KirbyCo Builders’ Cooking Tip of the Week: Trader Joe’s “Handsome Cut” Potato Fries have become Jeff’s new favorite fries! You want ’em at their best? Put ’em in the air fryer. Facebook
