We’ll be silly and we’ll be serious. And we’ll look at how fat and fatness shape our lives, how we can thrive in the bodies we live in right now, and how we destroy anti-fatness.

    Saucye West in the Spotlight

Activist, model, and podcaster Saucye West joins Tigress in the Fat Spotlight to talk fashion inclusion, fat liberation, and more. First, Tigress and Saucye take a trip down memory lane to their first meeting at a Full Figure Friday in Oakland, CA, where Saucye was picked out of the crowd to become a spokesmodel for Tigress’s plus-size nightclub event. Then Saucye reflects on the behind-the-scenes realities of plus-size modeling opportunities as an unapologetic fat woman while industry insiders ignored her, told her to lose weight, or suggested she be less outspoken about discrimination. We talk about how her two popular hashtag campaigns (#FatAndFree and #FightForInclusivity) came to be and what impact they had on Saucye, her followers, and plus-size fashion. Plus: B bellies, a Pretty Woman moment, a mom’s hopes for her daughter’s self-image, and what we might see next from Saucye.  In each episode, we ask our guest to name someone who deserves a spotlight on what they’re doing in the world. Saucye chose author Jes Baker. Listen to learn why. —------------------- The Fat Spotlight is a production of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance. Episode 4: Guy Branum in the Spotlight

Comedian, writer, and actor Guy Branum joins Tigress in the Fat Spotlight to talk about Be Fruitful, his show that just finished a month-long run at the Edinburgh Fringe. The show includes Guy coming off stage to directly engage with audience members about what the world really thinks of him as a fat gay man.  Guy reflects on how fatness and gayness have traded places as targets of moral panic over his lifetime and what Hollywood wardrobe departments reveal about who’s expected to be on set. He also explains why body-shaming a conservative like Shane Gillis makes every fat person a “conditional junior partner.” Plus: his arch nemesis, the plastic folding chair, and when fat jokes actually work. You can find Guy on all social media @guybranum, where you can also find upcoming dates for the Be Fruitful tour. In each episode, we ask our guest to name someone who deserves a spotlight on what they’re doing in the world. Guy picked three fat comics: Amy Miller, Lydia Popovich, and Stuart Thomas. Episode 3: Ragen Chastain in the Spotlight

Researcher, writer, and patient advocate Ragen Chastain joins Tigress in the Fat Spotlight to pull back the curtain on the weight loss industry. Ragen talks about her new podcast with Louise Adams, Exposing Obesity Inc., which traces how pharmaceutical companies built a market by medicalizing fatness. She explains why so-called weight-related health issues may really come from weight stigma, weight cycling, and healthcare inequality, and how a literature review she did for herself 20 years ago ended her pursuit of weight loss for good. She also gets candid about facing hostile medical audiences, organized trolls, and even an armed threat, and why she keeps showing up anyway. Plus: her Guinness World Record, her clarinet-at-Carnegie-Hall past, and her years in fat sketch comedy. You can find Ragen at weightandhealthcare.com and weightandhealthcareinstitute.com, and find Exposing Obesity Inc. at exposingobesityinc.com or wherever you get your podcasts. In each episode, we ask our guest to name someone who deserves a spotlight on what they’re doing in the world. Ragen picked author Da’Shaun Harrison. Episode 2: Jeff Jenkins in the Spotlight

Travel host and creator Jeff Jenkins joins Tigress in the Fat Spotlight to talk about a life lived on the road: from a childhood Greyhound bus trip that first sparked his love of adventure, to hosting National Geographic's Never Say Never, to a nearly year-long sabbatical that's made Bali a second home. Jeff gets candid about what it's like to travel the world as a fat Black American, why he now insists on giving every experience equal time to process, and how being the one who keeps showing up and inviting people in is the only way to build real community. You can find Jeff Jenkins at chubbydiaries.com or on your favorite social media @chubbydiaries.  In each episode, we ask our guest to name someone who deserves a spotlight on what they’re doing in the world.
