Great pod love the pod ! I had some BND thoughts that I wanted to get to (i’m 20 mins away from finishing this weeks pod on it so if you address these things there… whoops) First, the uncritical use of AI and flock by Peter to track down crime doesn’t sit right with me. I know Marvel AI is different from our AI but it has implications now that it didn’t when Homecoming came out. On top of that, he uses these cameras throughout the city to track crime and it also feels icky.
I also felt really grossed out by the Jean Grey inhabiting MJ scene. David mentioned how similar it is to Obsession and like that movie, I cannot get over that Jean essentially sexually assaults MJ and Peter. So icky to me that after this, she still gets to be the sympathetic villain who just needed a pep talk from Aunt May to be good and nice.
And lastly, given the symbol of Punisher with Maga, Blue Lives Matter type of guys, it irks me that he’s made into this weird cuddly teddy bear by the end of the movie. I get that this is not what the creators intended and those weird cops that use the skull thing are misreading the character (i’m assuming i haven’t read the comics) but it doesn’t feel great this year.
I tried to go into this movie with an open mind despite not really liking any Tom Holland Spider Man movie but it all just feels so irresponsible and like manufactured consent or something.
