From a Kitchen Table Guy

Most recent episode on the stack /priority was really helpful. Whenever a new set is released I look forward to their set review. They do a great job of breaking down card interactions. Go to YouTube and check out GameKnights. Best gameplay production by far.

So much value

I can appreciate all of the content that is put up weekly. While there are times when I do not agree with assessments or arguments made by Josh and Jimmy, I think that is a good thing because it reflects the various viewpoints of deckbuilding and gameplay, and I think I am better off as a Commander player for this. Anyone wanting to get into Commander or improve their game has to listen to this show.

New to MTG, New to EDH, 10000% Hooked thanks to The Command Zone

I don’t typically review things. Maybe the occasional product on Amazon or positive transaction on EBay (of which there have been many since I started listening to JLK and Jimmy). So this is kind of a rarity for me.

Also, I never subscribed to anything on Patreon, until recently. Didn’t even know what it was! Again, thanks to JLK and Jimmy.

I never really did the Podcast thing or the YouTube thing and yet here I am, a fully subscribed on iTunes, on YouTube, on Patreon and apparently my wallet is subscribed to Card Kingdom (slash Command Zone) as one of their sponsors.

Why?

Because these two gems (JLK and Jimmy- and I’ll even throw in DJ, aka Jumbo Commander, as I wend my way through old episodes) made MTG feel accessible to me after a lifetime of seeming like a game for hardcore players and a certain “type” of gamer.

In the last few months I dove in (Dovin? Haha) head first into the world of MTG and quickly found Commander. At first, I was lukewarm on MTG, and MTG Arena made it feel like if I wanted to really explore MTG I had to play the types of decks I had no interest in (thanks to its matchmaking algorithm), but when a friend of mine introduced me to Commander, I found what I was looking for. Shortly thereafter I stumbled upon the Command Zone while looking for tips on deck building and now my Audible account is (magic the) gathering dust as I (swords to) plow (share haha - ok, I’ll stop now) as I (mana)gorge (hydra) on their content. (Seriously done with the lame puns now)

But I’m all seriousness, JLK and Jimmy have a way of breaking down the game with a genuine zeal and love for the game that makes it accessible, exciting and, most importantly, inviting to new players such as myself. While my wallet may not be as appreciative, my gamer self and my sense of fatherhood thank you immensely. Why my sense of fatherhood? Because I can’t wait to show my now 2-year-old son how to play once he’s old enough. It’s a game of skill, math, critical thinking, and fantasy lore all wrapped up in beautiful art. What a discovery! And it just keeps getting better. Thanks guys. Keep up the great work.
