Podcast of Champions - Big Ten Football Podcast

Come for the definitive rankings of 19th century Secretaries of State and which Disney princess is the kinkiest, stay for the mediocre football talk, fruity beer, rants about flyover states, and appropriate places for football coaches to engage in autoeroticism (hint: not at the office.) As a long-time POC listener, I’ve genuinely enjoyed Bert and Ernie’s takes on most things, except for when the tall drink of water with two first names describes this product a simulcast. For the love of Chase Garbers and Jake Locker, the word “simulcast” is a portmanteau of “simultaneous” and “broadcast.” Because I’m too cheap to pay for the OED, Merriam-Webster defines “simultaneous” as “existing or occurring at the same time: exactly coincident,” and “broadcast” as “to send out or transmit (something, such as a program) by means of radio or television or by streaming over the Internet.” Ergo, the word “simulcast” can be defined as exactly coincident transmission of a program by means of radio, television, or by streaming over the internet. However, the POC is initially transmitted via a single medium, a live Youtube stream, and concurrently recorded for dissemination on various podcasting platforms. Thus, it is not a simulcast, as again, it is not being SIMULTANEOUSLY BROADCASTED. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

It’s true what they say. This podcast has lost its Mojo. I found this podcast the last year of the PAC 12’s glory. I enjoyed their Southern California take on college football. We enjoy it, but it’s not all there is to life. Mixed in with football talk was socialist rants and commentary about beach life. I found the musings enjoyable and became a quick fan. However, this has all changed. The switch to the Big 18 has altered the discourse significantly. Long gone are the quality rants and affable stories. Every new episode is like watching “Ishtar” on replay. This show is now akin to a once proud world-famous champion hanging outside the Keno lounge at Excalibur hoping someone asks for a picture. Yes, mediocre. Why am I still watching you ask? I’m patiently waiting for a return to glory. Can greatness break free from the Big 18 shackles placed upon them… Maybe today?

This podcast gets 5 stars because it is hosted by a fellow Daily Bruin alumni which means, he’s probably lit right now while sports reporting, as we all were. It also gets five stars because for the first time, I can pregame at my apartment in Culver City and uber to a ucla football game. As a young alumni, I never understood the “great” rose bowl tailgating experience. How the f am I suppose to get home from a remote golf course on mars after getting shammered off some brewskies. Drive???

I’ve enjoyed discovering this podcast over the last month or two. Realignment has been strange for everyone, but I for one welcome our friends from California and appreciate the view from the left coast. Keep it rolling, gents!
