What We May Be - The Weekly Breach Breakdown Podcast by ITRC S3E2

Welcome to the Identity Theft Resource Center’s Weekly Breach Breakdown for January 14th, 2022. I’m James Lee…and our podcast today is possible thanks to support from Experian.

Each week we look at the most recent events and trends related to data security and privacy. As we move further into the new year, we’re getting a better picture of just how bad 2021 was when it comes to cybersecurity – and in ten days, we’ll find out how many data compromises we suffered last year. With report after report, year after year pointing to little or no progress against cybercrimes, it begs a question that Shakespeare raised in Hamlet, giving us today’s episode title, “We know what we are, but know not what we may be.”

Happy New Year - The Weekly Breach Breakdown Podcast by ITRC S3E1

Welcome to the Identity Theft Resource Center’s Weekly Breach Breakdown for January 7th, 2022. I’m James Lee…and our podcast today is possible thanks to support from Experian.

Each week we look at the most recent events and trends related to data security and privacy. This is the first episode of our third season and a lot has happened since we last visited in late December. We are in the midst of another global cyberattack against an obscure, but near-universal software component known as Log4j. The Federal Trade Commission this week warned organizations it will take action if they fail to fix the flaw on a timely basis…similar to the $700M in fines and remediations aimed at Equifax following its 2017 security & data breach.

Welcome to the Identity Theft Resource Center’s Weekly Breach Breakdown for December 10th, 2021. Our podcast today is possible thanks to support from Experian.

Each week we look at the most recent events and trends related to data security and privacy. Today we’re going to stroll down the list of the worst passwords of 2021. Password Manager provider NordPass publishes a list each year of the 200 easiest to break passwords in the world…a roster containing so many codes that can be broken in less than one second, we’ve named this episode PassWord Up with apologies to the 1980s band Cameo because far too many people are waving their “hands in the air like they don’t care!”

Welcome to the Identity Theft Resource Center’s (ITRC) Weekly Breach Breakdown for November 12, 2021. Our podcast is possible thanks to support from Experian.

Each week, we look at the most recent events and trends related to data security and privacy. This week we explore a theoretical question: which would you rather be – a drug trafficker in 1992 or one of the ransomware operators in 2021. Don’t answer just yet because we are going to do the math.
