Chrissy Beltran

Welcome to Instructional Coaching with Ms. B, where we believe that every teacher deserves a coach, and every coach does too! I’m Chrissy Beltran, an elementary teacher who became a coach and I had to create my own coaching program that worked. Now I teach coaches how to design their coaching programs, build a school-wide action plan, and use differentiated strategies to support teachers. Plus, I’ve got a special spot in my heart for literacy coaches! This podcast will cover instructional coaching strategies including modeling, co-teaching, and observations, coaching cycles, and more! We'll also talk about how to coach resistant teachers, how to establish yourself as a coach and define your role, set goals, manage your time, facilitate PLCs, and more! We chat with instructional coaches, principals, school leaders, and researchers!

    277. How Required Lesson Plans Can Support Checks for Understanding with Dr. Jana Lee

This week, we’re kicking off a new series about supporting better assessments. In our first episode, we examine how required lesson plans can support checks for understanding, and there’s no one I’d rather discuss this topic with than Dr. Jana Lee. During the episode, Dr. Lee and I explore the connection between lesson planning and assessment. We examine why lesson plans should be submitted to administration and what should be included in them. Dr. Lee walks us through the steps for creating lesson plans using the Core 4 framework, including the “I do”, “we do”, “you do” instructional teaching strategy. She explains how this approach helps teachers check for understanding, monitor student learning, and respond to student needs in the moment. I can’t wait for you to hear this amazing conversation with Dr. Jana Lee. I know you’re going to love it! She gives us strategies for supporting teachers as they integrate technology meaningfully, along with ways to help them become more comfortable using it. 275. Coaching Uncertified Teachers with Lindsay Deacon

Uncertified teachers don’t have the same foundational knowledge as traditionally trained teachers, and that can be a huge challenge. But don’t worry, I brought one of my favorite guests, coach and author Lindsay Deacon, to help us dive into what the research says about this important topic. We discuss the typical background of uncertified teachers and why we’re seeing more of them in classrooms. You’ll learn about the specialized needs uncertified teachers have when just starting out and how you can support them while also supporting the different needs of other staff members. Plus, we chat about the importance of modeling and the value of role-playing with teachers. Lindsay offers us lots of hope and ideas to support uncertified teachers.
